I'm trying to get the Star Trek community on Lemmy.zip back up and running. Stop by if you're looking for a place to chat about Star Trek!

A community dedicated to incredibly low quality facts.

While the community is named after the mastodon account Low Quality Facts it's not dedicated to that account and it's posts.

All forms of low quality information are allowed! Either blatantly incorrect information, stuff that's so obvious that it doesn't need to be said, or something that's technically true but said in a terrible way.

I've already posted a bunch there already to get things rolling so check it out!

So I tied a Tamagotchi to my belt, which was the style at the time

!oldmanyellsatcloud@dubvee.org

Are you a tech enthusiast who also kind-of hates current tech trends? This community is a place to share your gripes with modern technologies, tech-bro culture, "AI the everything", etc.

Tech-rant memes, articles, or just rant/horror stories: all are welcome.

Related Communities

Note: The community is about a year old. It was originally going to be a personal blog, but I never found the time to write-up my tech hate, so it kind of languished. So now I'm re-branding it as a place for anyone to dump hate for current tech trends (in any format) since I didn't see any other community for that purpose (that wasn't for a specific trend - e.g. AI).

!bangladesh@lemmy.world

I requested the community with this message:

I want to create a space for r/Bangladesh. The government in the country has shut down the internet and I want to make decentralized options more accessible for them. I plan to see if the moderators want to join here too. If a good community forms, I am happy to hand off the moderator role.

I am not in Bangladesh, and I can't read Bengali without translation tools. I'll love to have other people helping with content and moderation. If you are interested, let me know.

It is difficult to self host in Bangladesh but my hope is that this community will end up creating an instance there. After this community is running, I will reach out to people on other websites.

@Safipok@lemmy.ml if you are still around, I'd be pleased to add you as a moderator

Would you rather, its in the name. Needed to make one not on Lemmy.world and here it is.

And also would you rather have a sentient toilet that gets off when you poop in it or is utterly revolted by it?

Hey guys,
I created this community to promote and talk about the UnifiedPush project. It aims to create a free and open source alternative to Google's proprietary Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). Quite a few apps have already adopted the UP protocol, but there are still many FOSS apps lacking support for it. I will post GitHub issue threads where UP integration in FOSS apps is being discussed. I will also post about new apps that gained UnifiedPush support, and other useful tools that help with using UP. If you want to stay up-to-date about ongoing developments in the Android FOSS ecosystem in regards to push notifications, consider subscribing to !unifiedpush@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I also recommend following the official Mastodon account, joining the Matrix room and donating to support development!

!dataisbeautiful@mander.xyz

Following this thread on !fedigrow@lemm.ee, we decided to create a new "dataisbeautiful" community on mander.xyz (thank you again guys!)

Took us a bit of time as they were having federation issues until recently, but now everything works fine!

We have quite a lot of activity over there, but it's always good to promote it as some new joiners may have missed it.

Also shout-out to

!marinemammalrescue@lemmy.ca

For updates on the patients and activities of MMR, as well as Marine Mammal related content in general. It's the season for a lot of rescues right now, so hopefully there is a good bit of content.

I'm planning to eventually see if the organization wants to take over the community officially

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR) is a global leader in marine mammal rescue, research, and rehabilitation. [They] respond to over 300 marine mammal emergencies each year and operate Canada’s only dedicated marine mammal hospital facility.

Searching Lemmyverse is good for finding communities. !trendingcommunities@feddit.nl is also a nice tool for finding new places.

I posted this on the other site but I thought I'd copy over here too, lots of good communities around to subscribe to if you want a more casual/fun frontpage that isn't just tech news, elon musk, or politics.

note: all of these communities have posts. If they appear empty, it simply means nobody on the instance you use has visited them before (or you might have blocked them and forgot, I've done it before, lol)! I will try to keep this thread updated over time.

Note: if you wish to auto-subscribe to all of the communities below, I have a post in the comments that describes how to do so.

My rough criterion was:

  • Of interest to me or a wide audience
  • Has a decent amount of activity
  • Casual / fun / interesting / cool / funny / chatty communities.
  • 0 negativity/negative vibes, news, politics, overload of tech or niche tech news/info, etc.

Directory

  • Conversation Communities - for chatty places
    • "ask" based
    • Casual chat / Misc
  • Hobbies, Creative, Passions
    • Misc
    • Artwork
    • Cooking, food, drinks

Lots of music communities on Lemmy. Search Lemmyverse for genres of interest for more, this definitely isn't exhaustive.

Note that music communities generally have low comment counts, from my experience.

There's also:

!linux@programming.dev

As usual with the fediverse, choice is key.

There were quite a few complaints on !fediverse@lemmy.world about !linux@lemmy.ml not having any real alternative (https://reddthat.com/post/20166234), so let's see if we can revive the programming.dev one.

And if it fails, at least we tried.

!imaginary@reddthat.com

Created this community as a fan of the Imaginary Network on Reddit.

I had a chat with other people maintaining other Imaginary communities on Lemmy (directory is !imaginarydirectory@lemm.ee ), they wanted to try a different approach, I just wanted a generic fantasy / futuristic community to change from !traditional_art@lemmy.world and !artporn@lemm.ee
