TBC, I don't watch or care anything about the sport. I am curious why it hasn't gone to full military tech style communications between players and augmented heads up display style interfaces. It certainly isn't due to a lack of money. It is like the ultimate battle tech. What could possibly be more American than mock battles over an inflated pig carcass with military tech shit? Like drone view of every player, in helmet view, isolated coms, and off site real time strategy. Sounds about as potentially popular as a consul or first citizen hosting naval battles in a coliseum IMO.

They are supposed to be grown from spores, so what use are ork nipples?

I genuinely want to understand this. Are the defense systems we are sending so advanced that we can't let anyone else operate them?

I know politics aren't allowed here, so i want to stress that I just want to know why this is happening.

So I've heard and seen the newest launch, and I thought for a private firm it seemed cool they were able to do it on their own, but I'm scratching my head that people are gushing about this as some hail mary.

I get the engineering required is staggering when it comes to these rocket tests, but NASA and other big space agencies have already done rocket tests and exploring bits of the moon which still astounds me to this day.

Is it because it's not a multi billion government institution? When I tell colleagues about NASA doing stuff like this yeaaaars ago they're like "Yea yea but this is different it's crazy bro"

Can anyone help me understand? Any SpaceX or Tesla fans here?

once a year I email my favorite flashlight manufacturer to ask if they've finally made a flashlight that just turns on and off when you push the button, and every year they're like, "no, but thanks so much for your feedback!"

be honest, have any of you ever used the flashing feature on your flashlight? did it actually come in handy? handy enough that I have to scroll past it every single time I want to turn my flashlight on or off

How do these companies come to that conclusion? I think most people start to smell after only 24 or 48 hours max so how do these companies get 72 hours out of their testing?

Im assuming they're fudging their numbers but at what point does it become false advertisement?

For example !memes@lemmy.world lists some sister communities. Are sister communities just communities with related topics? Also some communities have partner communities, does this refer to the same thing?

If I am driving on a road, and a flying saucer with a spotlight is hovering ahead waiting to land, do I have to stop in the roadway and yield to them? Or do they have to yield to cars in the road? I checked my states driving manual and they don't mention alien air/spacecraft at all.

I would guess that the UFO would have the right of way, as traffic would have to eventually stop for them anyways. Should I just stop in the roadway and put my hazards on so the flying saucer pilot is aware I am yielding the right of way to them?

That and verifying the checksum are the big reasons I can think of. I feel like for the most part though using something like balenaEtcher is so much easier.

So one of the selling points I've seen tossed around for Lemmy is it's absence of a Karma system. Keeping that in mind can anyone explain why Lemmy wouldn't adapt a more automated/bot style approach to increasing content. What I had in mind was a system that shocked Pikachu meme used some sort of scraping method or web crawler method that could produce continually fresh posts to communities like the NFL community or even offer a new News type of community that is fed every news break from a defined set of sources. Hell Lemmy even offers the ability to create its own automated front page of the internet instance that exclusively for those who enjoy the automated content provided. If it gained traction there would be no limit to the specific communities it could support. For example if there were a NFL auto posting bot why not one thst serviced each individual team's community.

The biggest ckmplaint in reddit back in the day was the increase of bot activity generating reposts. With Lemmy tho, there already are natural reposts already happening between common communities present across multiple instances.

I very much enjoy how differently Lemmy and it's user base is from the trash pile reddit became. The reddit comment threads after the exodus are all just regurgitated memes and hivemind friendly bot responses. Compared to Lemmy where it's been rare if at all to find anyone farming for karma or pandering to the masses.

I always wondered this since I noticed that a lot of cars always have at least some damage to their pinch weld jack points, usually from hydraulic jacks, lack of adapters, or dropping the car onto jack stands hard. I get it not everyone has the right equipment or experience but it also seems like a poor and cheap design from the manufacturers. Why hasn't there been a method or aftermarket product that kinda bulks up the pinch welds. Hell I don't think I ever seen someone even weld or bolt on some steel to kind of guard the pinch welds from bending. Is there a reason for that, like structurally? Why are those hockey puck looking adapters the norm, just because its easier?

Tldr: Many vehicles suffer damage to their pinch weld jacking points from improper use of jacks, prompting the question of why there isn't a robust aftermarket solution or protective design from manufacturers to prevent this issue, besides those hockey puck looking adapters?

I often find myself browsing videos on different invidious instances or posts on various lemmy instances, and I would love to be able to create a "watch later" list or a "favorite" list that works across all of them. I don't want to have to manually import and export these lists between different instances, either, like I have to do on lemmy, invidious, etc.

I'm currently using a single bookmarks folder to keep track of everything, but I don't like this because it's a mess. I'd like to be able to create two or three different lists for different groups of websites, so that I can easily find what I'm looking for. For example, a favorite list for reddit, tumblr, etc, another favorite list and a watch for later list for invidious instances, and other lists for other sites.

Is there any way to achieve this? I'm open to using browser extensions, third-party apps, or any other solutions that might be out there. I would prefer a free solution, but I'm willing to consider paid options as well.

SSN numbers are good for 999,999,999 people alive or dead. At some point the US will hit that, right? Do we start reusing numbers? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

So I have not booted my windows partition for fear that it would break my boot.

I am this close to just deleting the entire partition and adding it to my Linux partition as a data and or log drive instead
