"Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY,' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT," Trump wrote

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced on social media he's searching for a new law firm to represent him in an appeal against last week's jury verdict awarding $83.3 million to writer E. Jean Carroll.

He left a message to prospective hires in the Truth Social post, writing: "Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY,' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT." The former president's announcement follows his vow to appeal the jury's decision last Friday, predicated by the presiding federal judge's September ruling finding him liable for defamation.

It's not often Trump writes something I agree with, but I have to admit, they are certainly one of those two things.

[–] LilB0kChoy@midwest.social 22 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but he screwed up the quotes again. Should be:

Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either CRAZY, or a ‘TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT’

[–] TrippaSnippa@aussie.zone 10 points 7 months ago

The true American patriots are the ones who take the case on the side of the prosecution.

It's New York, he has to post the 83M before he can appeal in a civil case. They don't let deadbeats waste their court time.

So glad there's finally stakes for this fucker and also its unfalsifiable. She gettin' paid no matter wat

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Pardon me if I don't hold my breath that Trump is actually going to pay. If Carroll gets her money, it will be from some PAC or friendly billionaire who wants to be able to pull the president's strings.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

I think he can still use a bond.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 52 points 7 months ago (3 children)

It is this kind of news that has allowed me to catch my breath. I no longer see a turnip dictatorship as an inevitability; a real and immediate danger, but one that feels less and less likely.

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 61 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Likewise, but don't get complacent. The threat isn't over yet.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 21 points 7 months ago

Agreed, 100%. Why it’s still real and immediate, feels like there is some hope. We gotta work for it though.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 23 points 7 months ago (3 children)

It's still a very real and persistent threat. Recent polls put him dangerously close, and he did alarmingly well in 2020.

Do not get complacent. We can win, but it is certainly not guaranteed. Stay active, and even contribute (time, money, etc) if possible.

I live in one of the handful of "states that matter" in the electoral college and in 2022 we broke so blue it's amazing. The GOP here is dead broke and has fallen to infighting. I'm not even sure they've worked out who's in charge after the former leader refused to accept the validity of the vote kicking her out. We are prosecuting fake electors.

It's almost ridiculous how hard Trump is going to lose Michigan. That's not the whole election, but it's a big piece.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 4 points 7 months ago

It's certainly looking positive up there. But those Trump voters are still there, and will still go vote for his fascism. You may not see them until then, but they are there. They also tend to not be involved in the rest of the GOP.

All that he needs to do to win Michigan is convince enough people that he can't/won't win.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

100% true. I just am feeling more like the efforts will pay off than usual. Might just be the good day I’m having :)

[–] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And the "vote third party" trolls are out in way more force than they were in 2020 for whatever reason. It already feels worse than peak 2016. I really hope people are inoculated to this shit by now, but I'm not super confident.

[–] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

I’m almost convinced we’re seeing a targeted misinfo campaign coming from some .ml and Lemmygrad users. The brainworms are severe.

[–] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

There is absolutely no question about this. These users are repeating right wing talking points almost verbatim and these "leftist" spaces protect them by removing anything which challenges their nonsense. We have literally seen this play out once already.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago (2 children)

What is their motive for doing so? Having anyone other than Biden winning is a loss to all left leaning agendas nationwide, including theirs.

(And yes I know Biden isn't very leftist himself, he's practically a Republican in my mind but he's the only thing keeping the country from further regressing into an ultraconservative pit of despair.)

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

Google 'accelerationism'

[–] half_fiction@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 months ago

Russia... Their campaign interference has been targeted to rile up both the far right and the far left. And of course the beauty--if you can call it that--of all their psyops bullshit is that it convinces real people to push these talking points and carry on the momentum organically.

By very wary of any so-called leftists who are so dogmatic they refuse to understand that plugging your nose and voting for Biden is the option to prevent a terrifying loss to the progressive agenda. They are either accelerationists like the other poster said or are spouting Russian talking points (regardless of if they're a real person or not.)

I'm sure all the best lawyers are on truth social

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 31 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That's the funniest part of all this. I heard his lawyer talk once, and I could instantly tell she was chosen because she was MAGA, not on legal merits.

Literally the best he can get now are all on truth social lmao

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That and Trump probably liked looking at her butt.

Calling something a "Trump case" should become an informal description among lawyers for a hopeless defense of an idiot loudmouth client.

[–] GluWu@lemm.ee 14 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Funny how "Trump card", having been a been used as something that is a sure absolute win, will turn into the exact opposite. I see people saying it throughout media of the last 30 years. Kids that watch that old stuff in the future will have no fucking idea why they would say that.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Gonna have to change the whole rules of spades.

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 27 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yes, it is ahem the "lawyer's fault", right...

"I can say the person I raped is not my type and didn't rape. The only reason I gotta pay 83 million is because I got fucked by my lawyer! - trump

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 4 points 7 months ago

Ofc not, he prefers ~~his daughter~~ younger girls.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 7 months ago

Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY,' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT," Trump wrote

Oh boy, I know the answer to this one!

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 15 points 7 months ago

Calling all 'patriots!' Who wants to be stiffed of payment by the conman next?!

[–] Mammal@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You mean the man with a reputation for not paying his lawyers is having trouble finding competent legal council?

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 2 points 7 months ago

I hope not that shocked though:-)

[–] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Are there any lawyers left?

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 4 points 7 months ago

There's always someone willing to work for free, for 'exposure'.

There's also going to be a number of lawyers whose hubris will get the best of them.
