I interpreted as referring to treatment of prisoners of war.

I also didn't interpret it as him saying they were know for their generosity- just that people in general anywhere tend to have some amount of empathy.

Trump said, absurdly comparing the hostages’ situation to the Holocaust, which murdered six million Jews.

This line was speculation, he didn't say anything about the Holocaust explicitly

suggesting that the Nazis were known for their generosity.

This as well

IMO, this is the problem with building a society where you need a "legitimate need" to do anything

It’s almost like people have gotten really used to instant gratification

Being able to work is not "instant gratification". People need it to be able to afford to live, and often in doing jobs that are directly essential for the life or quality of life of others. Incredibly out of touch take imo

On the other hand, the ugly frontends to the package manager just work.

The misery I have trying to get a newer(or sometimes older) version of a package I want is sometimes immeasurable. Yet somehow usually the right version is extremely accessible on choco.

Do your parents never need/want to download anything?

[–] aidan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That's not nice

The title really undersells it, it seems like under a Biden Executive Order, free/open-source software will have to ban all Russian contributions. Its unclear if American developers would be allowed to contribute to Russian software like Nginx
