I'm Gen X and I agree with OP.

I'm afraid of drinking through a straw. I'm convinced (against all logic) that I'm going to inhale it and choke.

However, I recently started drinking through a straw again at my dentist's recommendation, to protect my teeth from carbonation. I have a set of reusable metal ones. They don't trigger my phobia at all. Maybe the texture makes all the difference.

Is that your own layout, or is it a scheme like QWERTY or DVORAK that I haven't heard about?

Oh god, Net Send.

At one point it was my job to track down and upgrade old PCs that had been moved by users. To my delight, I found that Net Send was enabled on all the org's devices. I had the bright idea to use it to pop up a message on the affected PCs asking them to call me and provide a location. I copied a script from an old website and modified it to work with a list of hostnames. It, uh, worked - but while I was testing my script I ran it without commenting out the line that sent the message to all devices on the subdomain.

I turned my phone off for the rest of the day.

The oldest building in this city is a two-room (originally) cottage that dates back to 1841. It's not the first permanent structure built here, but it's the oldest still standing.

The average adult skull has a capacity of around 1.2 litres, or five regular cups of coffee. Our buddy with the axe there should think about getting his insulated and capped. Even if he's not carrying around his whole day's supply, it's gonna get cold fast.

If you smoke after sex you need to slow down.

“the police have no duty to protect you.”

I think it may be time to re-think how you do your nation-state-ing.

No, but it wouldn't bother me if people I know IRL see them and recognise me. It's happened a couple of times before (on Reddit).

All this time we've been keeping our true power hidden.

Also, if you mention Zealandia in New Zealand, people will look at you blankly and say "The bird sanctuary?"

That's great! What's Cosmic Alpha 2?

It was a panama hat woven from bamboo fibre that I bought at a fair to keep from getting sunburned.

I'm sharing this because any reduction in unnecessary packaging waste is good for the planet - and because I think laser-etching avocados is funny. 🙂

I followed a Jaime Oliver recipe for curry, which started with grating onion, ginger and garlic. I liked the curry, but grating an onion is a miserable job. He said that technique unlocked the onion's 'sweetness'. How much difference do you think I'd notice if I used a food processor?

'Reef stars' restored Indonesia's blast-damaged corals in just 4 years

I noticed that one of the monitors in the loom control room had "SKIN?" written on it in the dust that covered it. It seemed pretty mysterious and I was sure it was a detail that was going to be important, but it never came up as far as I noticed. Any theories as to what it's about?

I've been on a cosmic horror kick lately, and what I'd really like to read is stories or novels of the awful and unfathomable on a spaceship. Stories where we go to them, poke what shouldn't be poked, scan what shouldn't be scanned, and things proceed from there.

102 comics published by Humanoids. This seems like a great deal, but it's less than 24 hours from finishing.
