Perfect, all day while browsing Lemmy i thought to myself, you know what self, there is far too little political discussions on Lemmy. I think we really needed a community dedicated to it.

My problem is that my pots don't have lids.

Do you have a non plastic plate that is larger than the opening of the pot? Then you have a lid! I used to have cookware I purchased from thrift stores and yard sales. Some had lids, some did not. But a plate works. Hell even a cutting board (careful if it is wood, mine are bamboo and dishwasher safe) works.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Wednesday responded to the Texas National Guard installing razor wire along the Rio Grande facing New Mexico.

KRQE’s sister station, KTSM, captured video showing troops putting up concertina wire and fencing on the riverbank in the El Paso, Texas, area Tuesday afternoon. The expansion came three days after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott posted on X that the state would triple its razor wire border barriers to “deny illegal entry into our state and our country.”

Gov. Lujan Grisham released the following statement about Texas’ actions:

Gov. Abbott seems to be pushing to make Texas its own country without regard for his neighbors or the fact that Texas is already part of a great nation—the United States. If he doesn’t think that New Mexico is important to the overall well-being of Texas, then he must be forgetting about the Permian Basin and the oil industry that straddles our two states. I don’t see him laying concertina wire there. Gov. Abbott’s latest political stunt at the border will have no meaningful impact on our nation’s broken immigration system. Only Congress can fix our federal immigration laws, and I implore Republicans in Congress to stop holding up the carefully negotiated, bipartisan agreement they are deliberately stalling in Washington at the expense of our entire nation

This is not the first time Texas has acted on concern that illegal smuggling activity going on in New Mexico would spill into Texas. Earlier this year, the state extended its barrier at a spot where the river stops running parallel to Mexico and turns north into New Mexico.

The New Mexico-facing concertina barrier extends from West Paisano Drive to the Texas side of the Anapra, N.M., bridge between El Paso and Sunland Park.

According to Border Report, The Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station in southern New Mexico is one of the busiest in the nation in terms of migrant smuggling activity; many of the 171 encounters with deceased migrants this fiscal year have occurred in the desert near Sunland Park.

My first ever LEGO set was this Roadster*. I add the asterisk because it was not actually this roadster. Mine was Mitchell Mouse, not Moe, and not Michael. I am trying to find the pieces to mine, because I remember the doors, and the body being red. The same color as the chassis.

My instructions are long gone, however in one of my boxes of instructions in my storage shed there are pieces of this booklet.

Does anyone else recall their set being named Mitchell? I cannot find anything to back ups this claim other than mine and my father’s memory of it.

Anyone know if it is possible to get the search box back? I am one of those people who collects open tabs, i have always loved that safari on ipad always gives you the search box, unlike iphone where it is only at the top of all your open tabs. But now with 18 it appears to moved to the top of all the tabs like iphone.

A 17-year-old Colorado boy was shot in the face Tuesday after he and a friend went to a home to ask permission to take homecoming photos on the property.

The shooting happened around 4:15 p.m. at a home on Pleasant Park Road in Jefferson County, the sheriff's office said.

When deputies arrived, the 17-year-old was "bleeding heavily from his face, as a second juvenile applied pressure to his friend's wounds with a t-shirt," the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday. The teen is recovering from his injuries.

Brent Metz, the boyfriend of a woman who lives at the home, was arrested in connection with the shooting.

He was booked on charges of first-degree assault, felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment. It’s not clear if he has obtained an attorney.

The sheriff's office said the woman, who was not at the home, had called deputies before the shooting to report two trespassers on her property. She also called Metz, who drove over to the home and allegedly blocked the teen's car from leaving, according to NBC affiliate KUSA of Denver.

Metz then got out of his vehicle and allegedly fired one round through the windshield of the teen's car, the news station reported.

The 17-year-old told deputies that he and his friend went to the home because they wanted to take pictures there. He said they parked outside the gate, hopped the fence and walked up the driveway to look for the homeowner, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

When they could not find anyone at the residence, the boys "walked around the property trying to locate a homeowner" and then got back in their car, the sheriff's office said.

"They returned to their car and began writing a note to the homeowner, asking permission to use their property to take pictures," authorities said. "While they were doing this, a man they had never seen before pulled up next to them, exited the truck he was driving, and fired a round through the windshield, striking the 17-year-old driver in the face."

A sheriff's office spokesperson told KUSA that the teen's intent did not seem "malicious or criminal."

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the news station, one of the teens said they heard Metz say, "Oh s---, my gun just went off," after the shooting. Metz tried to help the 17-year-old but his friend pushed him away, the affidavit says.

Metz, 38, is a council member for the town of Mountain View, according to KUSA. The town administrator declined to comment when contacted by NBC News on Thursday.

Unsure if this is a Mlem or Sopuli issue, but I have been having comments be empty after posting them. Even after multiple edits they are still empty. I went back and fixed a few of them with Arctic and the edits appear to have stayed (which leads me to believe this is a Mlem issue rather than my instance).

Has anyone else been experiencing this while using Mlem (possibly on a different instance).

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – A bag of Cheetos that was dropped on the ground at Carlsbad Caverns National Park had a large impact on the cave’s ecosystem, according to National Park Service staff.

“At the scale of human perspective, a spilled snack bag may seem trivial, but to the life of the cave it can be world changing,” an NPS official wrote on Facebook on Sept. 6. Staff said the bag was found off-trail in the Big Room. The processed corn in Cheetos was softened by the humidity of the cave and “formed the perfect environment to host microbial life and fungi.”

This in turn attracted cave crickets, mites, spiders, and flies, which then spread the mold to nearby surfaces. “Molds spread higher up the nearby surfaces, fruit, die and stink. And the cycle continues. Rangers spent twenty minutes carefully removing the foreign detritus and molds from the cave surfaces,” according to the post.

The park’s rules say that the only food that can be consumed in the caves is unflavored water. Food and any other drinks are prohibited. Park staff encouraged visitors to be mindful of their activities to prevent things like this from happening.

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance acknowledged Tuesday that it’s possible the false claim that Haitian immigrants are abducting the pets of Springfield, Ohio, residents might not be true, but he encouraged his followers to continue posting “cat memes.”

“In the last several weeks, my office has received many inquiries from actual residents of Springfield who’ve said their neighbors’ pets or local wildlife were abducted by Haitian migrants. It’s possible, of course, that all of these rumors will turn out to be false,” Vance posted on X

Pokemon fans have been left perplexed after being commanded by the official Pokemon Twitch channel to 'Discover Oddish' for over 19 hours, with a soundless stream showing nothing but the company's logo for the best part of a day.

The Pokemon Company's Twitch channel is a pretty active one, so to see it streaming something isn't out of the ordinary. With that being said, 'Discover Oddish' certainly managed to turn heads, and you can see why. As the hours passed, fans on Twitter began to question what was going on. Why was there a mostly-blank stream on the channel? Why are we discovering Oddish? What did Oddish do? And perhaps most importantly, when will it end?

Walking on the river road along side the Rio Grande yesterday and noticed this through the brush.
