Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

To help expand Lemmy's offerings, I recently made a new Lemmy Community that's based around the show Supernatural.

Supernatural is a long-running American TV series that follows the adventures of two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, as they hunt and battle supernatural creatures such as demons, ghosts, and monsters.

The series begins with the brothers searching for their missing father, who is also a hunter, and unfolds into a complex narrative involving apocalyptic themes, angels, and divine beings.

Throughout the series, Sam and Dean face numerous challenges, including personal sacrifices and moral dilemmas, as they navigate their roles in the fight against evil forces

To help expand Lemmy's offerings, I recently made a new Lemmy Community that's based around the show Once Upon A Time.

! Link: !once_upon_a_time@literature.cafe

Once Upon a Time is an American fantasy adventure drama series that aired from 2011 to 2018.

The show intertwines fairy tales with modern life, primarily set in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine.

The story follows Emma Swan, a bail bondswoman who is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming.

She is brought to Storybrooke by her son Henry, who believes she is the key to breaking a curse cast by the Evil Queen, which has trapped fairy tale characters in the real world with no memories of their past lives.

The series explores themes of hope and optimism as characters navigate their dual identities.

If you're tired of people locking fun threads, because they are going offtopic or comments violate that specific community's rules , crosspost them here to restart/continue the conversation.

I find it really frustrating when I'm reading an interesting thread, goto comment and I am unable to because someone decided to lock it for going offtopic. Personally, my favorite comments sections are the ones that end up going offtopic.

Still need to follow lemm.ee rules ofc.

!antisexism@lemmy.today is a community directed against the gender-based discrimination of men, women and nonbinary people.

It stands strongly against patriarchy and all forms of gender inequality, and is supportive of both feminism and masculism, as long as their end goal is equality.

Since, apparently, no Lemmy communities I know have tackled the gender-based issues from this angle, I decided to start my own. Will be happy to see you!

After the original mod being inactive for so long, i've asked the db0 mods for me to take this community. So, welcome back!

Rules

This includes the instance rules of dbzer0, which can be tl;dr'd to: no right wing nutjobs or tankies are allowed. As for the community rules:

  1. Be nice
  2. No bigotry/prejudice
  3. No tankies/right wingers
  4. Don't promote proprietary software
  5. Stay on topic
  6. No crypto
  7. Don't be a smartass and try to game the system, we'll know if you're breaking the rules when we see it!
  8. If you post news exclusive to a country please name it. (This isn't a bannable rule, but just a recommendation :) )

Why not:

Lemmy.ml

.ml is infamous for banning pretty much anyone they please. This community, while left libertarian, will allow conflicting viewpoints.

Lemmy.world

.world is too big, and has centralized a decentralized community. It simply does not fit, and is a net negative for the fediverse as a whole.

It also blocks VPNs, which goes against the essence of a privacy community.

Why dbzer0

Dbzer0 is stable, relaxed with the rules, and perfect for a topic like this.

About acknowledging that we took a wrong turn when Big Web tempted everyone into their walled gardens and setting out to reclaim it.

Any ideas for an icon and banner gracefully received.

There is now an Actually Infuriating community on Lemmy! Post things that are beyond just mildly infuriating. It's only mildly infuriating that someone didn't make this sooner!

Hey everyone,

I started a couple of Harry Potter themed communities focused on various Harry Potter Ships, they're based off of the Subreddits with the same names, and I'm looking for some potential moderators to help manage them, as well as some potential users.
