Constantine. I've seen it dozens of times and it never gets old. Tilda Swinton as Gabriel and Peter Stormare as Satan are a big part of why.

It was always goofy. Pretty early on my partner got heavy into WoW while I got heavy into EQ2, and the "cartoony" art style and vibe of WoW was part of what made it unique.

I don't personally think it's wierd, but my partner told me I sounded like an old for using the word "flummoxed"

Man what a blast from the past. I haven't seen these in idk how long but my mom had these when I was growing up. I don't even remember the stories, but those illustrations were awesome and are among some of my earliest memories of being unnerved by an art style (along with the legendary Scary Stories and the Wizard of Oz series from 1900 with the W.W. Denslow illustrations)

Im sure some people are attention seeking to some degree but most people i know who go on neighborhood runs are just out doing their own thing and if anything are overly self conscious about showing off their bodies. I overheat incredibly quickly when I go for runs, and I frequently have to peel off my top layer and I'm still soaked. I can't imagine I'm the only one. And I absolutely hate having any attention drawn to myself. Judgment from other people when I'm just out trying to get in a nice run outdoors sucks.

I've been tending to about 120 baby jumping spiders (P. audax) that emerged from their egg sac this week

Not an expert but I think you're right. The Wikipedia page OP linked describes the phenomenon this way:

Fata Morgana mirages significantly distort the object or objects on which they are based, often such that the object is completely unrecognizable... The mirage comprises several inverted (upside down) and upright images stacked on top of one another. Fata Morgana mirages also show alternating compressed and stretched zones.

They include a pretty good example with a container ship:

Scientology + Klingons.. Isn't that just Battlefield Earth?

A cellphone shot of the gorgeous aurora tonight. It wasn't quite this dramatic to the naked eye, but this is actually pretty representative of what we could see. I have a bunch of other pics too but I'm sure there will be pics everywhere tomorrow from better photographers.

If you've never seen cannabonsai before, check this guy's channel out. Even if you don't grow yourself, the process is fascinating and the results are gorgeous!

"PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County is investigating a second suspected heat death as a heat wave continues to push temperatures into the triple-digit range.

A Portland-area hospital reported the death Tuesday when temperatures in the city soared to 102. The county did not specify how the person arrived at the hospital.

This is the second suspected heat death related to the mid-August heat wave. The first involved a person found dead in Southeast Portland on Monday. The county medical examiner’s office is working to confirm whether the cause of both deaths was heat-related.

Multnomah County has opened cooling shelters over the past few days, and also ramped up outreach to seniors and other vulnerable people who may not have air conditioning. A spokesperson said those groups have been at most risk in recent heat events - like the 2021 heat dome."

Portland, Oregon's freeway network is only a fraction of what was originally planned. This documentary takes a look at three proposed freeways that were nearly built, the neighborhood revolts that led to their cancellation, and remnants of these projects that are still visible today.

This YouTuber does a whole series of these short documentaries on Oregon history that are just great

She was started late, grown outdoors & I grudgingly had to chop her early. She’s the only plant I’ve grown that had jet black leaves, and the contrast with the bright green buds was just neat.

Minnesotans are now able to legally possess and grow their own marijuana for recreational purposes, after the Minnesota Legislature approved a 300-page bill earlier this year, and Gov. Tim Walz signed it into law shortly thereafter. It became official Tuesday.
