It very much depends on which specific front you use. In February of 2025 I had DeepSeek insist that any speculation about Donald Trump being president was "future speculation" for example. Because its training data cut off at ... I think October 2024?

The ones that factor search into the prompt are better at keeping up to date, but even then I had Perplexity argue with me that there were no devastating fires in Jasper so it was just fine to go travelling in it.

I disagree with him. It is not like a heartless monster. It is a heartless monster.

OK, this one is going to be tough to explain. I'll start with pictures:

These are two variants of 陈年八仙果 (chén nián bā xiān guǒ or "Aged Eight Immortals Fruit"). Basically you hollow out a pomelo, fill it with a mixture of plum pulp, tangerine peel, assorted spices (including licorice), and salt. Then you dry it until it's dense. You cut it up into those wedges you see above and ... well ... you eat it.

Or you make tea with it.

Or you chop it up finely and use it to flavour meat dishes.

But mostly you just eat it as a snack.

I think we can safely assume that any woman with public photos who says anything that someone, somewhere gets offended by will be deepfaked with porn.

The VW bug got big because it was a decent car at an affordable price.

Neither of these hold true for Tesla.

He got the information he needed, destroyed the departments that were investigating him. He's good.

I'm so glad I'm not in the USA right now. From every angle human lives are under attack by rich assholes.

I swear the entire west has turned into abject cowards over Gaza. All the posturing at every country in the world over (often only suspected) genocide. Israel does a genocide on live TV and the west not only doesn't do the moral chest-thumping it actively aids and abets it.

So much for being the stewards of virtue...

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson decide to go on a camping trip. After dinner and a bottle of wine, they lay down for the night, and go to sleep.

Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend.

"Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."

Watson replied, "I see millions of stars."

"What does that tell you?"

Watson pondered for a minute.

"Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets." "Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo." "Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three." "Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant." "Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow." "What does it tell you, Holmes?"

Holmes was silent for a minute, then spoke: "Watson, you idiot. Someone has stolen our tent!"

I'm not sure you can triple the rapes of 15th-century Britain.

Wait, you mean MEN, in TECH, have problems with CONSENT and women saying "NO"?

This is my surprised face: 😐

I think that’s just one of Granny’s myths, though.

Uhh...

This "mini-course" offered by Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario is not a joke. It's a legit course being given to grade 11 and 12 students.

Thoughts?
