MODERATORS

I left /c/Risa because the moderator there was letting his own personal feelings color rules, removing posts that violated no clearly written rules, and creating new rules without even running it past the community or asking how they feel about it.

The moderator of this community is guilty of that same behavior.

I'll be over on !whitepeopletwitter@sh.itjust.works.

Its not too late to become a lighthouse operator! British Columbia is desperate for them, even the CBC (Canadian Public Broadcaster) was basically advertising for them to try to drum up willing workers. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/thecurrent/looking-for-lighthouse-keepers-1.7085280

Wait really? Because I'll move over to BC in a fucking heartbeat. Fuck Ontario.

Wait. That article talks about Newfie lighthouse keepers. I'm newfie. GIMME!

A couple years ago they were looking for a new lighthouse keeper in the SF bay https://ebls.org/about/keepers-search-innkeeper/ but it looks like they filled the position.

However this lighthouse includes a B&B and is in the bay surrounded by millions of people so maybe not quite what you were looking for.

Too early to become a landing operator on the moon, reading ebooks only talking to the ai companion.

Too early to be trapped in the moon and forced to watch cheesy movies, the worst they can find.

OP: "Alone with the waves. Is that too much to ask?"

Genie: "Say no more, fam!"

OP: *Lives alone in a basement, suffering from waves of crippling depression.*

Don't let your dreams be memes

I think that particular spot has been filled, but it's possible. Helps to be in the coast guard amd have a boating license.

I have a sailing license although Coast Guard wasn't my preferred flavor of service. Also am Canadian. I'll just build a damn lighthouse myself!

Radio tower operator in some remote outpost in the northern territories?

Too late to be a trilobite happily swimming in a puddle.

A friend of mine works nights at the receiving desk of a supermarket. It's basically the job you want, minus the sea (and you have to talk to a few truck drivers every once in a while). There is even a cat!

Too late to explore the Earth, too early to explore the stars.

"The ocean is still mostly unexpl-"

Shut up!

That's a lame excuse. You can still live this sweet life nowadays without being a lighthouse operator

[–] Lemmyvisitor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

it's a shame lighthouses no longer exist :(

[–] IMALlama@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I live in Michigan. There are tons and tons of freshwater lighthouses left. I suspect they're not as common as they once were, but they still ring the Great lakes. Map: https://gllka.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=9e1508ae15f9444f9b960aa42e435951
