Ah yes, young men. That notoriously healthcare obsesses group of individuals that do all they can to drain the system of all its funding. That's the problem.

It's a shame people actually fall for blatant lies like this.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Magats shit on women... Still get women votes... Shit in soliders still get soldiers votes... Shit on Mexicans.... Still get Mexican votes... Shit on men...still get men votes...

I don't know who this says more about... The voting group or Democrats that can't win despite this shit.

[–] Zomg@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I make time to do both 🤫

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 10 hours ago

Ah, yes, because I don't need money for rent and food, just healthcare.

What a moron.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Someone so disconnected with reality should not represent anyone.

[–] Pulsar@lemmy.world 15 points 12 hours ago

Healthcare is just a way to coerce the working class to produce value for the wealthy. That is the real reason why there is no universal healthcare in America.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

They'll just keep turning the screws tighter if you let them.

Don't listen to their lies.

[–] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 41 points 16 hours ago

But where's the free healthcare?

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 27 points 16 hours ago

I'm disabled and can't afford a working computer to play video games, you rich motherfucker.

This guy unfortunately and unironically exists and likely has more power than anybody on the fediverse.

[–] jhoff90@lemmy.world 12 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

He seems to know a lot about "young boys."

[–] Tillman@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

He talked about monitoring his sons porn viewing history I think.

[–] gerowen@lemmy.world 18 points 15 hours ago

We have free health care? Coulda fooled me.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 32 points 18 hours ago

Anybody who has ever been unfortunate enough to have to apply for any of these healthcare or food stipend programs would know that it's not as easy as the government makes it seem. In fact, the amount of bureaucracy, means testing, and highly restrictive income limitations means that most people don't qualify period and people who do qualify have to spend an inordinate amount of time waiting to hear back from the government to know if they have been accepted or not, all the while hoping and praying they don't get sick and can manage their money long enough to continue feeding themselves.

Case in point, my fiance is out of work right now and actively seeking work. She applied for both MediCAL and SNAP and was denied for MediCAL because she had earned too much already that year to qualify and the SNAP benefits totaled out to $20/month in food stamps, based on historical income, which is insufficient even for the most frugal of individuals to make work. This is for someone currently earning $0/month and being almost entirely supported by me.

After a certain point, it becomes a massive drain on your time and resources that could be spent looking for a job, so you stop bothering with the system altogether because who wants to spend hours doing paperwork and submitting claims just to get enough spare change to buy a bulk bag of rice to feed yourself a struggle meal?

I don't want to hear shit about "handouts" from anybody. My fiance paid her taxes faithfully for years without ever having to rely on the program, so where are her benefits? She has undoubtedly paid more into the system than she will ever extract.

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 20 points 17 hours ago

Rich people always think they pay for everyone. Wrong.

We are in the same society. A society with no hope is not a stable society.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 46 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not concerned about some young videogamer getting free healthcare. I'm more concerned with the DOGE GOBLIN getting BILLIONS in government contracts to build rockets that blow up spectacularly, wasting a billion dollars with every explosion, just so he can quip "Just a scratch."

That's a billion dollar scratch that could have made a huge difference in thousands of lives.

I'm not worried about American citizens getting health care, I'm worried about Foreign Sociopathic Oligarchs getting BILLIONS in government contracts, paid for by taxes on the working class, while calling those same workers/taxpayers "parasites."

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

That’s a billion dollar scratch that could have made a huge difference in thousands of lives.

Okay, sure. But consider that they didn't earn those billions of dollars by sucking up to the right assortment of Wall Street financiers, rich family members, and ego-driven Presidential nominees.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 34 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I don't accept the premise that working a job to make someone else rich is axiomatically good.

Many jobs make the world worse. I'd rather someone sit at home and play Tetris than build murder-drones, or work on some sort of AI powered stalking-ad company.

Many of the jobs are just bullshit. Another "AI" company? Another product manager with no real decision making power? A few billion dollars poured into "the metaverse"? Waste of time and resources.

That aside, most jobs make the owners rich while labor gets a few crumbs. You work all day making widgets. The boss pays you $10. They sell your widgets for $1000. That's a bum deal. But there's a thousand desperate people waiting to take your spot, plus union busters eager to betray labor and beat you up. Pay people the real value of their labor, and treat them with respect, and you'd likely get more people working.

Johnson is a heretical, hypocritical, piece of shit. No one should take him seriously. His church should -- wait, he's southern baptist? The "we're going to split off because we want slavery" sect? Not surprising. Those assholes suck.

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

This. The whole framing needs to be pushed back against.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 27 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Says the asshole mooching off the gold standard free healthcare given to congressmen.

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

And what was his "merit" again (since that's how they like to frame it)? Oh right, fooling people into voting for him. Just PR and courting big shots for campaign money.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 22 points 21 hours ago

I can't wait to pay for groceries with my free healthcare.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 17 points 20 hours ago

The same old "welfare queen" argument again.

[–] iMastari@lemmy.world 15 points 20 hours ago

I only play computer games after I get home from working hard all day.

[–] ThatGirlKylie@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is just the “violent video games make people violent” argument from the 90s and 00s. Fear mongering at its core.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

"These violent games make you violent!" "These cozy games make people lazy!"

Sometimes I think they just complain because it's a fetish for them.

Another boomer fucking idiot saying idiot fucking boomer shit because idiot fucking boomers voted like boomer fucking idiots.

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 17 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

He's fucking Genx, my generation. I hate every GenXer that sold out. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, remember we are fighting class warfare. Don't let them divide us along generational lines. My good friend is a Boomer and is as liberal as can be. My two coworkers are GenX and both voted for Trump.

The argument is utterly stupid.

Ignoring that it is building on a fantasy reality for the moment. Even if you had free healthcare, and if only the financial costs of survival motivated people to get jobs, then the other costs of living, like for food and shelter, would still provide that motivation.

First they came for the gamers, and I did not speak out, because I was busy hitting a sick 360° quickscope on Angel City.

[–] y0kai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 54 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lmfao what free healthcare?

The problem is that voters are so damn stupid that someone can make a statement like this without being interrogated.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or the media will be like "Yeah, that makes sense" and will not push back.

Free healthcare?

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Is this Free Healthcare in the room with us now, you miserable ghoul?

[–] jaupsinluggies@feddit.uk 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd be interested to know how I can pay my electricity bill with my free healthcare. Also I need to go to the supermarket today; how do I convert free healthcare into a trolleyful of food?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Also where the fuck is this free healthcare?

[–] jaupsinluggies@feddit.uk 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Civilised countries like the UK and other European countries. Technically it's not free because it's paid for by taxation, but it's free at the point of use: if I go and see a doctor, I don't get billed, but I do pay 9% National Insurance tax.

working where exactly? working on a farm that will pay you minimum wage, if that? oh OH I know working in the tech sector where it's now and has been for the past couple years an absolute nightmare to find a job in.

There are NO jobs out there that will pay for the current cost of living and the ones that COULD aren't hiring, and if anything, are laying people off. And yeah, these unemployed young men are TOTALLY playing videogames that now cost $80 a pop paid via a job they don't have.

What free healthcare?

Young men have to jump through the most hoops to get state level health insurance.

Oooh, I'm one of those! Gaming on foodstamps and social health in a US state, AMA.

[–] match@pawb.social 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

How does it feel being rich???

[–] dzsimbo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Truly wonderful.

You need the gaming in this lifestyle to help divert attention from not being able to get comfort foods at month's end.

Otherwise it leaves me all the time to realize the physical and mental hells I am putting myself through. I've been qualified for free health care for over a year, but I just arrived to the point where I can reach out and engage the system. I initially thought enrolling would come in handy if I get into an accident, but last week I made the call to start preventive treatments.

I have an appointment with an actual doctor next month. I am also getting the ball rolling on the emotional side. I was contemplating moving back home, but now I might give this current iteration some more time.

edit: i just reread the title (of course I didn't read the article); I'm 40.

[–] samlan@reddthat.com 5 points 19 hours ago

Shit, they're on to me.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Can these monsters please just fuck off!

[–] JIMMERZ@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Where is this free healthcare? Because I'm paying out the ass for my very minimal coverage.
