Given the price and description, I was always assuming they were going to import a cheap Chinese android phone from a no-name manufacturer and then do the gold paint here and call it Made in the USA, like how other companies do one final assembly step here in order to make that claim.

[–] Jollyllama@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

Can't wait for Dbrand to drop a dupe skin for the iPhone, that would be diabolical.

A real gaper.

[–] nthavoc@lemmy.today 37 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You can't even make a freaking grill scrubber without importing parts from China, even if you were trying NOT to import from China. Apple couldn't even make their phone in the US because the most trivial thing was insanely expensive compared to overseas. Yes, the tiny little screws. I've got beach front property in Arizona to sell to these jackasses that believe this moron solved US manufacturing problems in just 6 months.

To be fair, there is a nonzero chance that there will be beachfront property in AZ in the next century now so...

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 16 hours ago

I got beach front before it was beach front! I love it!

It’s a Wingtech REVVL 7 Pro 5G

Chinese company + Chinese manufacturing.

This guy is such a fucking crook.

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 80 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It’s a Wingtech REVVL 7 Pro 5G

So a $130 budget phone that they are selling for 500? Seems about right.

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 11 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You do understand that it's gold colored? That's $300 in added value right there

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 6 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

If you combine it with the sneakers and watch it buys you an extra 3 months before being taken to the gulags. Unless you’re brown, then it’s only an extra 3 minutes.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

Well, with the tariffs and all, it adds up...

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 18 points 21 hours ago

He’s not a crook. And you will realize that as soon as his tax audit is over so he can release his taxes.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think paying a little too a billionaire for no necessary reason makes this American though

Steve Hou of Bloomberg LP, found the same phone on Amazon. Trump is selling his phone for $499, but it can be purchased on Amazon for $169. It can also be purchased in gold

Everything is a fucking grift

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 38 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Which means you can buy the $169 phone spray paint it with gold paint and sell it to a MAGA fan for $1,000 when the demand goes up.

[–] RvTV95XBeo@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It can also be purchased in gold

Fuck the spray paint you just need to write "trump" on the back with a crayon and they'll throw money at you.

[–] wunami@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Just RUMP is good enough. Save 20% of production costs.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 18 hours ago

brb...doing this...

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 6 points 16 hours ago
[–] Vegasvator@lemmy.today 38 points 1 day ago

I can't wait to accuse trump supporters of being antifa for not having a trump phone.

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 59 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Trump business' press release about the phone purports that the device, The T1, is "designed and built in the United States." The report noted that Apple has a similarly ambiguous claim, "Designed by Apple in California." In Apple's case, however, it has a disclaimer saying that the phones are assembled in India or China.

How is that "similarly ambiguous"? Neither phone was built in the US; only the Trump phone creators lied and said it was.

[–] nickhammes@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Two clear claims are similar levels of ambiguous; not very.

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 64 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 16 hours ago

And even is it wasn't, it's still in breach of the Emoluments Clause.

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee 34 points 1 day ago

Well yeah, the Trump family is involved.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

After all immigrants have been forced out, all social safety nets removed, and child labour laws repealed; after the resulting widespread poverty and famine. When Americans have no choice but to work in sweatshops for a dollar a day, then US manufacturing will finally be competitive enough for trump merch to be made in the US.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 6 points 23 hours ago
[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago

of course not

[–] Luouth@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

So, full of bullshit just like the rest of the Trump dynasty. Got it.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 27 points 1 day ago

Saw that coming a mile away.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

GUYS! HELP! MY EYES! I ROLLED THEM TOO HARD! I'M BLIND!

[–] habitualcynic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Oh no! The best antidote is remembering he’s demented and close to death!

And that he probably cried over the low parade turn out. I had to change my underwear after that joyful thought.

If only false advertising laws had any teeth.

I saw this a while ago and wonder if it's related at all

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Not really, them setting up World Liberty Financial is more about their ability to control deeper tiers of the financial system so they can run scams nested within scams and push it all through crypto to hide any trails that might lead to corruption charges one he's "out of office."

[–] sudoer777@lemmy.ml 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

I mean when I first came across it (which was linked from a mass text advertisement from Truth Social in January), this is the quote that stood out to me:

Developing American First investment vehicles is another step toward our goal of creating a robust ecosystem through which American patriots can protect themselves from the ever-present threat of cancellation, censorship, debanking, and privacy violations committed by Big Tech and woke corporations.”

Notably the word "ecosystem".

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 35 minutes ago

Yeah, this is a big part of how all the broligarchy tech guys got involved with the campaign. Once the schism over social media and who controlled where you can say what started 2017-2020, there was push for and investment in full tech stacks down to full data centers controlled by Trump Media. For them, they see this as already appealing to the same captive audience they already extort daily for "donations." Gab, MeWe, Rumble, TruthSocial, Parler, and a dozen other smaller platforms formed to try and pick at a market they hoped would be big enough to leech from for decades and not let just Zuck have all the access.

These same people on the tech side had been pushing for crypto since its inception as a new economic system. Its part of why Peter Thiel added a whole crypto wallet to Brave browser. Which is why the Trump meme coin is on the Solana blockchain, it's the same kind of guy they got wrapped up with, that also wants to have Network States where the wealthy can be super-citizens. So their solution to everything, being ultra-wealthy people detached from reality, is to just build compete infrastructure from the ground up to suit themselves and be maximally insulated from criminal prosecution, including financial platforms, while enjoying all the amenities of living in a country built by millions of hardworking Americans.

Tariff is included in the price, you pay the phone 200$ + 300$ that goes to gov/trump pockets

These shit stains can’t even sell hats that are made in the USA let alone a phone.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Because of course it fucking isn't. What a clown show.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 3 points 22 hours ago

Stolen info from trump supporters in 3…2…1

[–] Mynameisallen@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

Mind blown.

[–] match@pawb.social 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If they ieep grifting their own people this hard, surely there will come a time when their own voters are penniless and thus (in American democracy) powerless, right?

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 18 hours ago

They'll still vote for him.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

An American made smart phone would be garish, run hot and flake out in record time.
