Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1268 readers
670 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

MODERATORS

Has anyone else noticed this community behavior? One mod, he posts topical news, locks the post. Anyone who comments before the post is locked get banned? No rules listed? Strange.

This mod is a known problem. Best to block the community and move on to a better one.

If people would just use complete sentences, then we wouldn't keep having this issue crop up. Maybe.

You remind me of a friend of mine, Frank Fusilli.

I dunno, I think he's more of a Peter Penne...

That's not a complete sentence.

You know who else never spoke in complete sentences?

Tom Taglietelle.

That's a bit much. People say the abbreviation for communications in ways that tell me they don't know what it means. People don't know "a wash" from "awash" and similar confusion. People write "the ask" like they forgot that not everyone sells used cars.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

I forgot to mention I was joking :p

Qrstuv or something is the mod, he banned me for an incomplete sentence.

I checked to ensure it was in fact a complete sentence.

There is another user who mods half a dozen or so communities and locks every post as soon as they make it. Roundsparrow I think is that user.

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Figured it was qrstuv based on the title of this post.

Not worth the effort, just accept the "joke" community and move on. No need to play their games.

Not to imply it isn't an asinine reason to ban you, but that's not a complete sentence.

"The negotiations could have been a Signal chat" would be be, but what you have is a dependent clause that does not contain a verb indicating what the negotiations did.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

They could have been a signal chat.

Some comms are treated like the mod's personal sounding board. Post what they want but refuse any discussion on it.

Thiis is fairly standard behaviour for some of their moderators. They're a weird bunch.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You should make a post on Ye Power Trippin Bastards about it

[–] remon@ani.social 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They did. This is that post.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk, I think somebody at least should make a post about it

I wonder if qrstuv ever thinks there's more to life than being really, really, really ridiculously esoteric

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago

Their art might suffer if they did that.
