My daughter has a gymnastics class one night a week and there's nowhere for parents inside the building so we're expected to sit in our cars. Instead of using the gas to keep the heat on, I go to Target to take a dump and walk laps. Even my wife, one of the whitest women I know, has stopped shopping there.

Probably also doesn't help that they cut store staff to breaking point in most markets and now those stores look like the set of a Poob zombie movie.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 3 points 1 hour ago

Good. Deserved. I used to go there once in a blue moon just because they had different stuff than my usual shops. Not anymore. They can bite my pale ghost arse.

I think it has more to do with everyone being so broke from food, vehicles, and housing.

[–] viking@infosec.pub 8 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Yeah but isn't that the place to buy food? If foot traffic is down it means people buy their essentials elsewhere.

[–] 5in1k@lemm.ee 2 points 3 hours ago

No, they sell food but it's a tiny part of the store usually.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 13 hours ago

Most Targets have only a small section for food and their prices are higher than most other places. Target is essentially a Walmart for people who can afford to not have to go to Walmart.

Both Turkey and the Balkans have shown us the way. Regular universal boycotts.

We need to break capitalism.

[–] Ardycake@lemm.ee 2 points 4 hours ago

Heh, I'm a balkan in the US and have dropped so much cold turkey after being a loyal customer/fan for decades. Closing my wallet and heart is easy. Money and attention should go only where its deserved.

[–] macncheese@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Good glad to see some tangible numbers. I was a weekly Target shopper but haven't been since the economic blackout day. They were actually doing some cool things after 2020, selling a lot of products from Black-owned businesses. To see them do a 180 is a stark reminder.that they're just a business and $$$ is the name of the game. Gotta hit em all in the pocketbook, it's the only thing they listen to.

[–] match@pawb.social 19 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

i got some fantastic gay pride merch from Target in 2022, the year they partnered with lgbtq creators and made some legitimately great clothing. then they received death threats and pulled them from stores.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Its easy being an ally during the good times. Being an ally only counts if they stick around when the going gets tough. An ally stands and fights, they don't cut and run at the first sign of trouble.

god, you're so fucking right. i'm gonna commission a fursuit of the Target dog and wear it to Folsom

[–] bork@sh.itjust.works 2 points 33 minutes ago (1 children)

Yo do you know how hot Folsom usually is??

[–] match@pawb.social 1 points 28 minutes ago (1 children)

I don't mind poodling, I'll be naked from the neck down

[–] bork@sh.itjust.works 2 points 26 minutes ago

Oh good, I just couldn't imagine wearing a complete fur suit in that and not passing out

[–] univers3man@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

That escalated quickly

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 26 points 23 hours ago

I'm certainly not giving them my money.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 48 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh yeah, forgot about that boycott. They're like the easiest one of the bootlicker stores to avoid, so I'm permanently boycotting them.

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 24 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

They're just walmart for people who think they're too good for walmart.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 8 points 11 hours ago

Walmart is trashy even before I knew they fund heritage foundation.

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 57 points 1 day ago (1 children)

go anti-woke go broke 💀

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 59 points 1 day ago

Go fasch, lose cash

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago

Almost like what Trump says isn't actually what the majority of people want. Breaking news! The guy that never tells the truth lies again.

[–] btaf45@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because the 'DEI program demise' triggered a consumer boycott from minority groups.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 32 points 23 hours ago

Not just minority groups. White male here, haven't been in since. Actually, I have travelled to and shopped in Canada in the same timeframe, which is a fun side thing.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The second they canceled their DEI policies I started getting everything from my local supermarcado or kroger market.

If they bring back their policies I might give them some buisness again.

[–] Pandemanium@lemm.ee 3 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I don't know why you would think Kroger is any better. My local Kroger has basically turned into a police state, with uniformed cops following people, extra gates at the entrances, and now half of the products are behind locked glass or in a separate purchase area. It all feels incredibly hostile, and I know they aren't actually losing that much merchandise. It's all just theater to scare us. I don't know if they have any DEI programs but if I had to guess I'd say probably not, based on their track record of dumb decisions.

[–] Nindelofocho@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

This has been the case at my local krogers too. its like actual pearl clutching. And of course they arent any cheaper than any of the other places for all the security theater. Also fuck those carts the the wheel locks that false flag every other time I have to go there. They beat the hell out of my shins and I just want to chuck the entire cart through a window

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Kroger has not ended their DEI policies so they have not declared they care more about exterminating minorities than money.

I wouldn't shop at Kroger if local stores had the things I want.

[–] Nindelofocho@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Kroger just hates everyone equally. Its a shit place to work and a shit place to shop. They probably havent terminated their policies because they know they are getting more money from the people coming over to them but you best bet they would do it if it actually made more money.

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even if they reinstate their DEI policies they’ve forever lost my business. They can’t be trusted and don’t deserve any customers.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago

It would take a reverse in policy and a changing of leadership across the top before I consider adding Target to my rotation. If push comes to shove, I will still go to Target before Walmart and Amazon, but I've not needed to step foot in one since the DEI rollback because there are still better options.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

They really need to ditch their current CEO. He has been running Target into the ground the past couple of years.

[–] dwemthy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Used to get a decent amount of stuff from Target. Some grocery items were actually cheaper than the big chain grocery. Stopped immediately at the start of the boycott, already adjusted and have had no trouble not going back. Their parking lot looks a lot emptier when we drive past

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Target was good for hot milfs and laughing about high prices. Maybe the clothes selection for kids is good. That's about it. Fuck Target.

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They are the only local place I can get transformers, aside from Wal-Mart.

Online ordering will have to sustain me, but that's a lot harder to justify as "impulse purchase."

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 2 points 11 hours ago

Lol ik going where is the electric section!?? Until I saw comment on toys.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm backlogged on the past year or so of GI Joe Classified figures if you're looking for another way to justify spending money. "Impulse purchase for a friend."

I guess that means we're friends now. Hi.

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 4 points 19 hours ago

GI Joe and transformers? What is this, a crossover episode?
