Only if they'll have us
I think there's a fair chance to get Alaska in as a separate province... They have closer ties to Canada, by and large, than they do with the mainland. Economic and social.
I am sure king charles III wont mind you back. But you will have to pay for the tea you threw into the harbor!! That good tea!!!
I think paying for the £9,659 worth of tea is a fair deal.
Poor Colorado being left behind with the ingrates T_T
And New Mexico! Don't forget about us.
Had this thought in Michigan last week when riding my bike in just-above-freezing air on a trail and seeing trees tapped for maple syrup. I bought a bottle of Canadian sparkling water, too. If the state is not Canadian, why mitten shaped?
If I weren't ~200 miles away with only a bike (and most of that is not bike-friendly) I'd definitely be like
which is realistic
because I know they wouldn't (health/money). Even if I could get an ID then passport, I am not social enough to get sponsored.
Can't they just take my brain for science instead?
Minnesota here. Yes, please. Pretty sure at least half the state wanted to be Canadian my whole life.
Id be happy to not have to cross the boarder to see that dope Minnesota rap
It'd be pretty cool. We already know each other's language too!
Unfortunately Canada would love more territory but I think we would have to refuse unless everyone who voted for Trump left the state beforehand.
Your terms, are acceptable.
I don't want my state to join Canada (it's a red state far from the border), but I want to immediately move to one of the states that would be joining Canada. So I think the poll results would be even higher if the question was asked in a way to include people who would answer like I did.
Well, maybe if the state joins after the Moose Cavalry crushes all resistance before it and the whole damn country other than Texas gets annexed.
Texas was, obviously, burned to the ground and the earth salted and irradiated.
The whole west coast should just join Canada. We would make decent Canadians.
Except Los Angeles. We don’t need that kind of superficiality here!
Hella dope Canadians, eh
Isn't this apples to oranges?
9% of Canadians "believe it is likely Canada will become 51st state" vs. 20% of Americans "would like their state to join Canada"
Good catch, those are two very different things being compared as if they are equivalent. I would expect that the number of Canadians who actually want Canada to get annexed by the US is lower than the number who think it is likely.
Other similar polls in the timeframe put "would want to" at about 9% as well. Some are even phrased as "would vote to".
What surprised me was the 18-34 demo who are apparently about 17% for it.
That being said, the quality of a lot of these polls aren't great. Many aren't random samples and come with a big disclaimer.
But, still, none have been as high as 20%. That's crazy high as a national average. Really curious breakdown by state. The most support for joining to USA is AB and it's still around just 13%. This suggests the most "I want to leave" state wants to join Canada much more than the most "I want to leave province" wants to join the USA.
The colonies are coming back you say?
turns on dramatic lights and orchester playing
"You say The price of my love's not a price that you're willing to pay You cry In your tea, which you hurl in the sea when you see me go by Why so sad? Remember, we made an arrangement when you went away Now, you're making me mad Remember, despite our estrangement, I'm your man You'll be back, soon, you'll see You'll remember you belong to me You'll be back, time will tell You'll remember that I served you well Oceans rise, empires fall We have seen each other through it all And when push comes to shove I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love!"
Dammit, now I'm gonna have "da da de dah dah dah da dee dee dah" looping in my head all day.
Doesn't change the fact that I'd be happier than a pig in shit if my (already blue) state was annexed by Canada.
You're welcome
I can’t believe this is a new thing for the rest of my life….
🫂
I would but my state would just fuck up Canada and they don't deserve that.
Tennessee? Missouri? Alabama?
I'm in Missouri so definitely the case, but you're missing Arkansas in that list too.
"Never mind joining me, I'm joining you..."
If Trump wants us to have a referendum on joining the U.S. as the 51st state, we should ask him in return for a binding referendum in any one state of our choice on joining Canada. Which state should we choose?
Ooh that's a tough one. I mean, CA, NY, and MA are all pretty good choices. But I think CA would be the best pick if you could only get one. Though MA would be a surer bet on the referendum outcome, I think. Lots of people in northern CA are redneck AF.
I think CA probably wouldn't vote to join Canada. But Washington state might.
How do you feel about instantly becoming the most economically powerful country in the world? Also California has the sexiest people in the continent.
Oh I think it's a great idea, and I love CA. Unfortunately, I don't live there so I wouldn't be able to reap the rewards. Though if it were really going to happen, I know there'd be a lot of chuds selling cheap and running for the midwest so I'd definitely make the move. Right now my job has me anchored on the other coast so I only get to be in CA for a couple of weeks a year (incidentally, for work).
Yes, let’s make Washington state a Canadian ~~providence~~ province.
Yes, let’s make Washington state a Canadian providence.
Totally cool making WA a Province but leave providence out of it. Canadian politics are aggressively secular and we would prefer any divinities keep their noses out of our maple-y business.
Oh derp.
please!
I want to be Canadian so BAD, been looking to move for the past 5 years. That looks less and less like a possibility. Y'all don't need more people competing for housing. Please take all the West Coast, which is and always has been an inseparable part of Canada.
And at least 3 out of 5 of those people live in California.
Oddly, I feel Mexico is a better fit for my state of California, especially with their recent cool shift in an educated President. Maybe we can get a sort of E.U. style thing except for Canada, Mexico and blue states, plus whoever else would make sense.
If given an independence option (well really it would only be viable if other Northeastern states left,) I'd vote for that, but if it's just stay or join Canada I'd vote for joining Canada.
Seems low.
