Credits go to @kmh for creating this style. It comes in both a light and dark version (check the links for usage instructions).

If you don't want to fiddle with code and stuff, loma.ml has already installed it server-wide, and should be available straight away for new accounts (If not, go to Settings>Display>General Theme Settings and change it from there. Or follow the guide in any of the links above).

Loma.ml is invite only btw

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 1 points 4 hours ago

loma.ml has already installed it server-wide

I can't see anything without an account and I can't create an account without an invitation code.

[–] fxomt@lemm.ee 17 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

finally, friendica is usable!

[–] Dremor@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

The regular UI looks like out of the 10's, maybe earlier. And god that default color scheme is awful.

[–] thebustinator@lemm.ee 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The rounded corners on the "set title" input box (in contrast to the other input fields) bothers me more than it should...

[–] petrescatraian@libranet.de 3 points 8 hours ago

@thebustinator Guess it's the author is still working on it, polishing it out, but there's a start

[–] M33@lemmy.sdf.org 23 points 12 hours ago

This awesome because users care about only one thing : no change, ever.

[–] morrowind@lemmy.ml 37 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Time to switch Grandma?

She'll probably miss her friends though

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 30 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Time to do a migration tea drinking afternoon

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 30 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

@Blaze @morrowind Unpopular opinion: Facebook until around 2016 or so (whenever it added stories for the 1st time) was the best social network in terms of UI and concept. It's just Zuck that decided to just copy everyone, every single feature, cram everything in a single website and gobble all user data (and now he's also supporting Trump and free speech). Oh, and the ads. The stupid ads getting you everywhere.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 24 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Google+ was better. The concept of "circles" being the primary way of interacting with people was ingenious and far better represents how real people interact. My fencing friends are not the same as my RPG friends who are not the same as my family.

Facebook adopted this with "lists", but they're not treated as the core part of the experience that G+'s Circles were, so they don't get used.

[–] jqubed@lemmy.world 2 points 18 minutes ago

I’ve put everyone on a list but there have been times Facebook has made it hard to even post only for that list

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 2 points 7 hours ago

I actually agree 100%.

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 8 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure it's that unpopular to be honest

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 2 points 13 hours ago

@Blaze too many seem hyped about microblogging, though...

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 points 11 hours ago

She still sees posts from friends? It's probably mostly minions memes about immigrants by now.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Her friends have been dead for years. She just sees posts from an AI bot fed with their data now and thinks they are still alive.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Wasn’t there a show with “bookface”? At first I was thinking the remake of Arrested Development, but that was Faceblock.

[–] cmhickman358@thelemmy.club 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You might be thinking of "FriendFace" from IT Crowd, that was my initial thought when I saw this

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Nah, I didn’t watch IT Crowd. Apparently there’s this https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/bookface but that’s not what I was thinking of either. Oh well.

[–] hollerpixie@lemm.ee 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Just don’t follow much on Friendica due to a lack of iOS app. And only had one for android. For it to really take off, we need app development as well. This is a great step though as an easy UI will promote use.

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I would set it up for my family today if there was an iOS app. How many years has it been out and still no app?

[–] caos@metalhead.club 1 points 2 hours ago

@scrubbles What do you see as the advantages of an app over a web app?

@hollerpixie

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 27 points 13 hours ago

Looks promising! Giving Friendica an UI of this century

[–] maegul@lemmy.ml 15 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Awesome to see TBH. Friendica is kinda the platform that the Fedi forgot and it might be a better place if it got more love.

[–] Jumuta@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

yeah, looking at the federation systems it supports is insane and I really want to try it out honestly

from Wikipedia:

Friendica users can connect with others via their own Friendica server, but may also fully integrate contacts from other platforms including Diaspora, Pump.io, GNU social, email, Discourse[9] and more recently ActivityPub (including Mastodon, Pleroma and Pixelfed) and Bluesky[10][11] into their 'newsfeed'. In addition to these two way connections, users can also use Friendica as a publishing platform to post content to WordPress, Tumblr, Insanejournal[12] and Libertree. Posting to Google+ was also supported until that service was shut down. In addition, RSS feeds can be ingested.[13] Because users are distributed across many servers, their "addresses" consist of a username, the "@" symbol, and the domain name of the Friendica instance in the same manner email addresses are formed. Twitter support was available but was deprecated due to API changes under Elon Musk's leadership rendering it unusable.

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (2 children)

Maybe I should ask here. The reason I'm here is because I'm looking for answers to this. As far as the integration with Lemmy goes, how does it work? Is there a 'Friendica' instance that anyone using that platform would be posting and interacting from? And in that case, does it play nicely with the other instances?

I'm pretty new here, probably moving to another instance at some point anyway. And I've been thinking of looking into these multi purpose platforms that play nicely with others. Because why not have more features and tools to play with, even if I don't use half of them. It might also fill in nicely for features that are missing here like multicommunities and posting to your own profile.

Also heard of mbin, although an in app search for something like "mbin" seems pretty useless here.

[–] neatobuilds@lemmy.today 3 points 8 hours ago

I think lemmy is a bit of the odd one out, so far i can interact between mastodon and pixelfed ok, and I can post from mastodon to lemmy, but in lemmy I can't really interact with mastodon or pixelfed.

If you want a lot more in on profile I'd check out mastodon, I just don't really get the Twitter style so I never know how to really use it for memes

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

@Zero22xx There are multiple Friendica instances. You can check them in the Friendica Directory (in the servers section) or other more global lists of Fediverse servers like the-federation.info, FediDB etc. Friendica has groups too, but besides the !helpers@forum.friendi.ca (or probably even the !fediversenews@venera.social one) they're pretty much lacking activity (you're still free to post anyway, there are plenty of them).

If you need some help, you can also post on the former one by creating a regular post and mentioning the group with "!" or "@". I have also created a megathread with various resources and a small Q&A (it's actually vice-versa tbh, since the Q&A took the most space on it, but I digress) in order to get yourself started: https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-2167-82af-600d-9ea129892452

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

Made a quick account there to check things out and not sure if it's entirely the right fit for the particular use case I had in mind. It's very much inspired by Facebook obviously, which I was expecting but from what I can tell from a quick look, not the kind of Lemmy integration I was hoping for or imagining.

I'm going to keep an eye on this place though, so that I can start encouraging friends and family to join once it's easy and attractive (in terms of content) for anyone to join.

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 1 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

@Zero22xx It depends. What use case did you have in mind?

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Apologies for the second reply. Just wanted to say that I checked out mbin and it's probably more up my alley personally.

But, I still have a barely used Facebook account because a lot of people in my country are still on it. And I'm going to see if the rumours are true and try to spread the news about Friendica there, hopefully without my post getting removed or account being banned.

And if / when people from there give Friendica a shot, then I'll give it a proper shot too with them. It'll just be used for different things than what I use Lemmy for.

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 3 points 7 hours ago

@Zero22xx No worries! Whatever fits you best! :D I'm happy you found a place around here!

Hope Zuck doesn't create another streisand with this one, like he did with Pixelfed (or maybe I hope he does, idk)

I'll have a shot with you too. Or maybe two shots. Or maybe whatever gets me to hospital in coma (jk).

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Basically I would be spending much more time in Lemmy communities, and I thought Friendica could be something extra on top to supplement it.

So I would like to be able to browse instances and communities and choose what I want to see and participate in. Either by subscribing or curating a feed or two. I don't see an obvious way to do this from Friendica yet. It seems like here I need to scroll through a pre existing feed and curate it from there.

But please bear in mind, I haven't explored extensively yet or read the link you shared earlier, although I have saved that post so that I can get back to it later in my day.

And another small thing for me (that can be easily fixed by styles and apps) is no apparent dark mode.

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 2 points 7 hours ago

@Zero22xx Friendica is more personal so to say... idk how to put it. It is more like Facebook :D You'll likely find your way.

And another small thing for me (that can be easily fixed by styles and apps) is no apparent dark mode.

Go to Settings>Display>Custom theme settings, then click the drop-down on appearance (should be the second item).

If you're using the Vier theme instead of Frio, scroll down to Theme settings and select the drop down next to "set style".

[–] anticurrent@sh.itjust.works 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Now the hard part is to get Friendica to integrate it in its base code, and somehow prompt users upon sign-up to choose their user interface !

I understand though that friendica devs might be reluctant to integrate it if they can't get assurances that this UI project will be maintained into the future.

[–] petrescatraian@mstdn.ro 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

@anticurrent @petrescatraian@libranet.de Fortunately, Friendica is flexible enough. All servers can set a default theme, and much of what people dislike about Friendica can just be fixed by swapping the Frio theme (which is default to many of the servers) with this one. In fact, there's already a server who did just that: loma.ml

Here's how it's local feed looks like right now

[–] asudox@lemmy.asudox.dev 4 points 10 hours ago

yeah, that does resemble facebook alot. without the bloat, that is.

[–] the_boxhead@sh.itjust.works 7 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Just wish there was an iOS app…

[–] Fitik@fedia.io 1 points 5 hours ago

There's Relatica, it's in active development, and it's multiplatform including IOS, but it's in beta right now

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 4 points 12 hours ago

The MAU is growing, it’s likely one developer will be inspired to make one.

[–] KurtVonnegut@mander.xyz -4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Looks cool, but maybe not put (what could be easily seen as) a racist charicature as a top example.
