General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

What he wants to do, is fuck the fuck off.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 19 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Imagine that! Wannabe dictator asking whether or not they should invade a sovereign country! He's truly a good person because he asked his people if they should invade instead of flat out invading!

see, he is better than putin!

[–] isles@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

And we can trust the reliability of the data, given the sterling reputation of Twitter and Musk himself, of course.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago

I'm also positive that the pole was representative of the US population as a whole and not just his idiot supporters.

My bins weren't collected last week, now we've got snow in them and all the cardboard's all wet and soggy. If that is not evidence of a tyrannical dictatorship, then I don't know what is.

Yay, no X in the UK soon! UK will so be liberated.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 10 points 1 day ago

I want to liberate Musk's body from his oppressive brain.

[–] sunbeam60@lemmy.one 12 points 2 days ago

I’m a Dane living in the UK. This is beginner level Trump/musk idiocy. Denmark is currently wrestling with the US demanding a piece of their kingdom (and yes, Denmark is a democracy, so using the word kingdom may seem a bit anachronistic, but in this case we are talking about Greenland, which is an autonomous region of the Danish commonwealth, so the official term is “kingdom”)

Let's do an internet poll about invading another country.

If it was a 13 year old kid I could understand it, but this is musk

[–] mogranja@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Functionally the same

I genuinely can't believe what is happening. What timeline are we living in?

Maybe it's time we designated Musk as a terrorist?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 101 points 3 days ago (7 children)

I genuinely can’t believe what is happening

Then you should pay more attention to history...

And I don't mean that as an insult, all this shit is reruns of shit we've already been thru. WW2 had a large push by wealthy American businessmen to not just abstain from the war, but they advocated for joining the Axis back then.

Capitalism and fascism go hand in hand, the ultra wealthy will always want fascism because fascist leaders love bomb them to get their wealth and power behind the movement.

We all need to understand this shit so we can understand what worked last time and why it didn't work permanently

Brit here. What a complete wankpuffin. He should focus on liberating himself from his own stupidity.

[–] Mex@feddit.uk 9 points 2 days ago

"wankpuffin" going to have to use that one.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Excited to see Elon Musk start paling around with King Charlies and talking about a return to Absolute Monarchy in a few weeks.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

[–] kat_angstrom@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Must have learned his lesson after having his "step down now?" poll go not in his favor.

Maybe ~~Putin~~ Musk should launch a special military operation in ~~Ukraine~~ Britain to ~~de-nazify~~ de-tyrranize them. How kind and noble that would be.

What the fuck is this, an anachronistic parody of 1939? "What if Hitler had Twitter"?

For the sake of the world, I hope whatever brain-eating disease he's contracted acts quickly.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 60 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (6 children)

Meanwhile he's fine with Putin, even has chats over the phone with him.

...never seen him tweet anything bad about him infact.

Non American , and non brit here. Why is this waste of energy so interested in the UK and Europe now ? I know there will be plenty of cynical takes which I will probably endorse however I’m interested in what his actual motivation might be. Does he just want parties in power in the given country that he has influence over for the sake of legislative advantage for his businesses? Or is it trollconomics for sake of driving signups to his failing social network I forget the name of?

[–] rah@feddit.uk 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Musk is under Putin's thumb and Britain is one of the leading supporters of Ukraine.

[–] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

Yep also China has a hold on musk economically. And supports Russia.

Russia has managed to gain a hold on the US again. (Reminding folks about his illegal holding of Ukraine funds last time)

The UK is by far the next most vocal supporter.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Trump could be soliciting bribes by threatening people as well, but musk is the one giving him directions.

"Oh yeah, Canada will pay up just yell some shit about invading."

How... kind of him... always nice to see the richest man in the world having fuck all to do but shitpost.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

So between this and trumps statements on Canada are we getting the commonwealth back together? I could go for another burning down of a white house.

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why do I feel like we're about to do a whole Third Reich thing?

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago

This one will be the Fourth Reich.

Given his role in the upcoming cabinet, it's no doubt going to be very cost-efficient and won't increase the size of either government.

Maybe NHS will make profit for the first time!

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Tell me more how Dems were the real war hawks.

[–] ploot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Republicans have only threatened to invade Mexico, Canada and the UK so far, with a few days to go yet until they take power. They're basically pacifists.

Edit: Oh, and Panama.

[–] VoteNixon2016@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And basically Greenland too
