For anyone else wondering, the article is normal, it's just OPs summary that rants about a fucking Facebook group

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 39 points 2 hours ago

FDR wanted social security to be this, and Medicare to be for everyone...

The "moderates" at the time kept telling him it had to be looked into more, and 80 years later Biden kept saying the same thing

It's what they'll always keep saying, it's why we can't keep wasting time electing them, we need people who actually want to fix shit.

No shit...

They have been since Jimmy Carter

And the Dem voting base's fear that Jimmy was just the start of the party moving right, is obvious now that people genuinely believe he was "the last good one" instead of "the first shitty one"

That's how much the Overton window moved in 50 years. Back in 1976 Carter proudly labeled himself a "centrist" even when the right at the time was Nixon right after Watergate. So I don't want to hear any bullshit about how the right was better back then.

$80 is insane, but that thing is a statue and hopefully you just sit a tub of popcorn in it.

Anyone willing to pay for it as a collectible thing, isn't going to want it all corned up.

The value of the house is not gonna go up because a few decades went by by which time they paid it off; it would only decrease by that fact! And the only thing we know about her is, that she paid her debt off… You find that irresponsible of her?

I honestly can't tell if you're trying to be sarcastic, or genuine...

Old products were made so that each product lasted as long as possible.

So when one part failed, it was worth repairing because the rest was probably fine.

Modern products are designed to last X amount of time, so when one part fails, the rest of it is likely to fail soon.

Making repair not worth it.

You're trying to treat this as one problem, but it's specific depending on what you need. Like, you can 100% buy a fountain pen instead of using cheap disposables. But I doubt that's what you're talked no about.

We need politicians with the balls to start nationalizing things like insurance and utilities...

Both parties picking profits over people isn't working out

Newsom is a piece of shit that needs to go.

His views don't align with Dem voters nationally, and certainly not within Cali.

On this latest podcast, the meandering conversation started on America’s so-called “masculinity crisis”—a reference to real problems facing boys and men, such as higher rates of suicide and social isolation, or a nod to conservative pearl-clutching about the perceived “feminization” of American boys, depending on who you ask.

“Most of these kids, many of them [are] not even having any relations, sexual relations, with other women,” Newsom said.

The conversation went from lamenting how American youth don’t have enough sex, to hand-wringing about whether the LGBT rights movement may be pushing “sexuality” onto kids.

“Speaking of sexuality and divisiveness,” Ryan said, “One of the things in the last administration that really divided people was gender affirming care, LGBTQ [sic].” They incorrectly equated sexual orientation and gender identity, leading to a conversation about what Newsom called “the trans issue.”

“That's now no longer about celebrating your rights. It's about denying other people theirs,” Newsom said. “Marriage equality was about everyone's right [...] But your child may not have that same opportunity to get on the podium if a trans athlete is competing.”

Posting Israeli propaganda usually gets someone banned pretty quickly...

The Democratic party just doesn’t fucking get it

"The party" is the DNC, and about 50 state parties.

And it's better than it has been in over half a century.

But we still got some shitty neoliberals holding office, like the Rep this article is about, that we need to get rid of.

Isn't their big problem that what's already happening?

Justin Mohn reportedly described a struggle between himself and Michael Mohn when the younger man told his father that he was placing him under a "citizen's arrest."

According to the AP's reporting, Justin Mohn stated that his father told him he would kill him before he allowed him to do that, and a struggle ensued. Justin Mohn told the court, "Unfortunately, he resisted. I was hoping to perform a citizen's arrest on my father for, ultimately, treason."

Local news outlet WFMZ reported that Justin Mohn stated that he believed killing his father was legal under Pennsylvania law because he was defending himself while his father was resisting arrest.

From 4/24/25, but hadn't heard about it:

Today, DNC Chair Ken Martin and ASDC President Jane Kleeb announced a historic “organize everywhere, win anywhere” strategy – a new four-year agreement to deliver more resources into Democratic state and territory parties than ever before – delivering on Chair Martin’s commitment to turbocharging investments in on-the-ground organizing and party building. Under the new State Partnership Program (SPP) agreement, each state party will receive a baseline of $17,500 a month, a $5,000 per month increase over the last agreement, and Republican-controlled states will receive an additional investment of $5,000 a month through the DNC’s Red State Fund, putting their total at $22,500 every month. The combined investments total a monthly transfer of more than $1 million from the DNC to state parties – the committee’s largest investment into Democratic state parties in history

Video on how depression isnt always a personal problem. Sometimes it's a rational response to the resource scarce reality we live in

“Since the public can’t see or hear what’s happening in federal court firsthand, we’re using cutting-edge AI tools to bring these important proceedings to life, based entirely on official transcripts,” said Law&Crime President Rachel Stockman. “This is a pivotal moment in both popular culture and justice, and our goal is to provide accurate, transparent access to what’s actually being said in that courtroom.”

There's two "full time" Lemmy developers, and one of them just added a repeating dialog box that will pop up regardless of instance asking for money to be sent to his and another lemmy.ml admin's personal accounts as a salary.

There's an issue where trolls will "@" people who blocked them because it will still send a notification.

Sometimes it's just people who always do it, so it's likely unintentional.

But it's pretty obvious from a post history glance when they're only doing it with people who never respond to them. And definitely obvious after someone tells them about it

Example:

Is there anyway to make mention notification abide by the blocklist?

If not should we be reporting harassment to our admins or the admins of the account doing it?

So after the last couple years of seeing how protests get treated based on how much larping they're doing, I bought some plates and a carrier.

I'm fully aware the only thing it does is stop me from dying immediately from a body shot, and only covers like 10% of me.

But the only reason I got it was because cops have been showing for decades they won't start violence against protesters when even just a few are plated up and holding a rifle. And I got a feeling there's gonna be some protests again.

My issue is I look like a nazi's wet dream even when I'm not geared up, and it's not like someone can read a Tshirt under a plate carrier.

I wanted to grab some patches from SRA, but all they sell is stickers, and Etsy just has vague slogan patches you wouldn't be able to read from five feet away.

I did see some links where the reddit sub had been doing mass patch orders over the years. Is there any community not on the big social media doing the same?

Or any other methods to show you're an ally besides just facing the right way?

I'm also a little hesitant to slap something like an antifa rose on because I can't see trump not declaring them a terrorist group at some point.
