Conversely: "My biggest concern is the new tax on the wealthy"

The Bank Account of the person: $20

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 77 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Or "illegals taking jobs"

Works at a desk all day, hates their job

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 59 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And, like me, wouldn’t make it through a shift of

[–] gangdinesout@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Right. Like, what jobs do people think they're taking?

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Here's the thing though. There's a very good (IMO) argument that says they should have a point. It should be that picking produce complies with minimum wage and social security tax regulations, and that employers who ignore those things to peddle the jobs to those who are most vulnerable and feel most strongly compelled to work for absolute slave-wages are heavily prosecuted, regardless of who they actually hire for the work.

Harvestinmg crops should be paid at a rate such that documented citizens do also want those jobs, not at a rate that guarantees only the most desperate among us will do the work.

(And it should be easier to come in legally for such work etc etc)

I don't know why in all our fighting about immigration that more of our anger (and legislative action) isn't directed at these employers.

That's me. My concern is that the wealthy aren't paying their fair share while I'm over here with just $20 in my bank account. I'm concerned that new tax won't happen.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Given the brand of truck I’d also wager “how much my insurance costs after all these DUIs”

[–] portuga@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Four of those tires and rims would buy my house

[–] NeptuneOrbit@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

I'm really excited to save five dollars a year on eggs and lose $5400 a year on everything else. Omelletes have never tasted so sweet.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 97 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Also blocking the sidewalk. Peak.

Edit: I mean, you could fit a small car between them. Just back up 'til you hear the Truck Nutz hit then stop.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 48 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is the absolute biggest downside for me when I cross the 8 lane highway to walk in and enjoy the rich people neighborhood near me. Either literally no sidewalks on some streets, or the fucking land boats blocking the entire sidewalk.

The knowledge of widespread Ring cameras is the only thing that keeps some people's trucks from getting keyed to shit, is all I'm saying.

[–] JudahBenHur@lemm.ee 18 points 3 days ago (3 children)

you can discretely spit on them

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I just ordered a hoagie and there's so many tomato slices on this sandwich... where should I toss them.....?

For those that didn't know, here's a big list of things you should absolutely keep very far away from a car's paint job.: https://hammersautoworks.com/common-hazards-to-car-paint/

Likewise, certain cleaning products can damage your paint job, as can foods that are especially acidic, such as tomatoes.

It'd take a lot of spit to get them all discretely (separately/individually) and be awfully hard to do it discreetly (sneakily). A worthy goal though.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 days ago

I have terrible allergies, who can say when a terrific sneeze will come upon me? Who can say.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is it gay if the truck nuts touch?

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The presence of truck nuts represent suppressed confusion over one's sexuality.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

They've changed the gender of the truck from female to male, but they're worried about transgendered people playing sports.

Hypocrisy is a tool of the GQP.

[–] asteriskeverything@lemmy.world 65 points 3 days ago (7 children)

It's a meme and funny cuz true

But it is also important to remember that not all trump voters look like this. His reach is so much more insidious

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 20 points 3 days ago

But it is also important to remember that not all trump voters look like this.

It's very important that every Trump voter thinks they can look like this after hitting rocks with a bigger rock or 16 hours a day.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

In fact, thinking that this is what Trump supporters look like is one reason he won. Ignoring his appeal to the working class was a fatal mistake.

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

I was just saying this in another thread. It's a cult, and cults ensnare people of all walks of life, intelligent, educated people as well. The dumb redneck ones may be the drones, but there are others in there that are scarier.

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Why do you see it as targeting Trump voters? I'm in Canada and we also have people driving giant SUVs in McMansions whining about gas and energy prices. It's fair and legitimate to bitch about the price of food, however it's also easy to see that the average North American car is now more like a tank, and that people whining about gas prices don't seem to be able to look into a mirror.

Yes, most of the people owning monster trucks will also vote Conservative here, or for a conservative party, I guess it's a political statement on its own. But it's also very easy to find liberals (as in neo-liberals, not "the left") with gas guzzlers bitch about gas prices.

[–] Jiggle_Physics@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

correct, in my area it is these people, and laborers currently getting ready to lose a bunch of compensation, due to the tariffs their companies are gearing up for. This is probably the first time they have called for cuts, and, instead of just getting record profits, can demonstrate they are going to lose a whole lot of their profit margin. Then there are the far more rare people like a few of the people are here, who are disabled, in poverty, and getting ready to have life saving medicine pulled from them.

What is the bloody point of such a truck

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 10 points 2 days ago

Dick replacement. When you can’t see yours anymore, gotta get an external one.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

It's a fashion statement, conspicuous consumption (owner has money to throw around), a political leaning/association, and an assertion of the owner's masculinity. To be clear, this behavior gets all my hate, not only because all of these things are encouraged by our economy and advertising, but are also directly supporting a lot of toxic traits and behavior.

[–] Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"It's cool" or something idk. I used to work with a guy at a desk job who had a truck like that and he was the biggest douchebag I've ever met.

[–] tmyakal@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

My brother-in-law has one of these trucks. He still lives with his parents, doesn't tow or haul anything, and works as a janitor. He's paying $350/month on the loan just so he can feel cool.

So does small exhaust, if you know what I mean 😀

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Cars first use is as a fashion accessory, akin of a watch. People don't buy cars for objective reasons, but to project the image they want.

[–] AnxiousOtter@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I buy my cars solely as transport. I usually buy the cheapest thing I can find that has the amenities I want (AC, Bluetooth, heated seats) with the best gas mileage I can get. Typically ends up being a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.

I don't give a shit about cars. I'd rather spend that money on home improvements and my family.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 2 days ago

You think your decision is a rational one, but Garfield disagree.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

When you run over a child, there won't be blood stains on the hood.

Counterbalancing deficits in either the mental or procreative department. Maybe even both.

"Food prices are just too damned high!"

-- Person who orders McDonald's delivery every meal from an app

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 42 points 3 days ago (3 children)

The truck already highlights that this person might not be the best decision maker. Blocking the sidewalk underlines their lack of concern for others.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

All over the damn place here in Alberta, aka Canadian Texas. As if anyone needs a lifted 5,000lb truck to make it to and from their jobs here in the city. I'm sure they justify them every few years when they move a couch.

[–] TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 days ago

I make it a point to drive exactly at the speed limit in front of these assholes.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

praoritays yall

[–] Zier@fedia.io 13 points 3 days ago

This is exactly what American Trash looks like. Look at all the money they wasted. And they think they 'cool'.

[–] Rookwood@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

I mean it's logical when you have to take out a mortgage to pay for your truck.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

With those trucks, the biggest concern is new tires.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

GOT MINE. 😋
