I'm so glad the pets are okay and sincerely wish the best to that family.

That out of the way—dogs are fucking hilarious when something as serious as their house on fire but they have no context so they just stare and bark at the new thing.

We don't deserve such innocent, silly creatures

[–] Uli@sopuli.xyz 70 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking. I can feel their panic.

"Oh no, I did a bad. Go away bad. Oh no, oh no, they're going to find out I did a bad chew. Bad away! Bad away now! Why is this not working?"

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 16 points 3 months ago

I'm fucking bookmarking this comment and coming back every time I need a chuckle

What the hell kind of flame retardants are in that doggie bed?!?

[–] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Battery fires are exotherm AFAIK and get very hot, flame retardants can probably only slow everything down.

[–] lemming741@lemmy.world 78 points 3 months ago

Right I'm saying they work hella good

I accidentally punctured a maybe 30% charged battery while attempting a display swap on my phone a couple years back. The thing started a nasty hissing sound and smoked like crazy. I was glad to live on ground level and was able to throw the thing onto concrete tiles in the backyard. Lithium battery energy density is no joke.

[–] Piemanding@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

Not to mention if it was sitting around it was probably pretty full.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Yes, but also dog fart accumulation.

Oh yes, popcorn is really bad for gas. Growing up, our dog got a few pieces off the floor and stank up the living room.

What apps/settings do y'all use so that removedant doesnt get replaced with removedant?

Edit: Jerboa doesn't let me say it but you get the idea. What a piece of removed

Edit 2: It's my instance, lemmy.ml

[–] DarkSirrush@lemmy.ca 45 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Its your instance, not an app. Switch to anything other than Lemmy.ml and you too can say fuck all you want.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The fact that’s blocked on .ml is hilarious. Tankies and censorship, name a more iconic duo

[–] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago

Good to know, thanks!

It's your instance. lemmy.ml doesn't allow most swear words.

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 months ago

What the fuck kind of bullshit is that?

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Wow that's trash.

Fuck.

[–] Ironfacebuster@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Does lemmy.ml allow "doo doo"?

[–] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

You can actually say "shit", I wrote "removed" in my edit as a joke. Not the R-word, though. Still, I'm migrating.

[–] SurpriZe@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

What's that

[–] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 months ago

Ah, explains a lot. I appreciate it

I wondered the same thing myself

[–] ThePantser@lemmy.world 57 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Dog was charged with arson and shot by local PD.

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 48 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Nah, the dog is white. He just got a slap on the wrist.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

It's running for fire chief

[–] HonkTonkWoman@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

A paid slap on the wrist, mind you.

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 48 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] Jackhammer_Joe@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

And that guy doesn't even have a dog /s

Cat as it gets the hell out of dodge: "I fucking told these humans the dogs were a bad idea!"

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 39 points 3 months ago

Those dogs. "Finally! The gift of Prometheus! ...Now what?"

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 months ago

All pets survived.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

What a nightmare!

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

How did the dogs not die from the fumes tho? That shit kills quickly usually.

[–] 0ops@lemm.ee 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's just a little power pack. Plenty enough to start a house fire, but I don't think just being nearby for a few minutes is enough to drop you dead, or electric car crashes would be a death sentence

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Electric car crash fires would be a near instant death sentence if the car were in an enclosed space. Also if you are trapped in you car with the battery fully on fire you obviously wont survive but usually people die from other causes before that becomes an issue.

People keep dying because their faulty e bikes catch fire in their homes. With this small battery, humans would have enough time to escape, but these dogs stood there for minutes.

[–] 0ops@lemm.ee 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Right, part of my point was that this battery is a tiny fraction of the size of one in any electric car. It's certainly not healthy, but it's not drop-dead unhealthy at this size, plus this is a pretty short video. For all we know the dogs might develop issues in the coming weeks

The resulting hydrogen flouride gas is apparently what fucks up your lungs, but that is lighter than air so it might have just been insufficient volume to fill the whole room down to the dogs level. Its very irritating so if they were to breath it in, i doubt they would just stay there but idk how stupid dogs are with this kinda thing.

[–] SurpriZe@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

This happened years ago though

[–] BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 months ago

Being low probably helped a lot

[–] Beaver@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 months ago

Thank god the gems are safe!

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Some dogs like to see the world burn.

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 6 points 3 months ago

So glad the dogs (and cat) got out safely. What a freak accident!
