Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). I don’t even know who this guy is, but getting angry won’t get you anything and violence will only get you killed.

Boycot

Fund raise

Protest

Vote

Those are our options at this point.

[–] dwindling7373@feddit.it 49 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

And he's saying that the Democrats should push for those, basically, instead of doing... check notes nothing.

[–] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 26 points 23 hours ago

Hey now, don't forget the signs they held up quietly while nobody was looking.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -2 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Bernie and AOC just held the largest political rally in Iowa since 08 Obama...

If you think they can be doing more, everyone would love to hear what path is faster.

But we have the DNC and the Dem's most popular politicians doing a nationwide tour whipping up support and explaining why shit is fucked and how we can fix it.

Like, I just don't understand what more people want?

Not the result, but what they should be doing to fix things faster.

[–] Rancor_Tangerine@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

We had a rally. What more do people want

For them to fight for the people. Resist.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

It's well past time that the people fight for themselves.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Resist

How?

You want Bernie to plate up and grab an AK?

Like, I just don’t understand what more people want?

Not the result, but what they should be doing to fix things faster.

[–] Rancor_Tangerine@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

How

That's a disingenuous question.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 0 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

No it's not...

You said they should be doing more, but as specific as you can get is "resist". Which they're already doing.

If you can think of anything more than what they're already doing, please, for the sake of our fucking country share it with the class.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

It's against the rules of the .world instance to speak specifics.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

So what are Bernie and AOC doing besides screaming fight Trump exactly? We are almost a year in and they still present no plan. Except starting of every speed with Israel has the right to defend itself, apparently.

You would hope that politicians like them who are getting paid to do this stuff full time would have something more meaningful to say than we need to organize. They are the people who are supposed to present the plan. And they have no plan.

Their raison d'etre is preventing people from organizing around those who actually do have plans.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

So what are Bernie and AOC doing besides screaming fight Trump exactly?

Going to red and purple districts and explaining how Republicans are fucking them over, and what progressives can do to fix it if they're elected in enough numbers.

We are almost a year in and they still present no plan.

It's been less than 4 months since Trump took office...

They are the people who are supposed to present the plan. And they have no plan.

They can not do anything without the numbers, which is why they're talking to constituents in districts most likely to flip and telling them to pressure their Republican representatives I to breaking against trump. Literally the only way we can do anything till midterms.

Like, y'all want something done today that will fix things today...

That's a drastic misunderstanding of how our political system works, and it shows that no one can articulate what they want done.

Like toddlers screaming for ice cream, you can't explain to them that you're currently on the way to get ice cream and the screaming ain't gonna make it happen faster.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 0 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Who elected in enough numbers? If we have enough DNC establishment ghouls it will magically change?

You are already ignoring the Dems passing Trumps funding bill. These people will not fight Trump.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

the Dems

If you're lumping AOC, Pelosi, Schumer, and Bernie all in one group....

You could say "the Dems" are doing damn near anything at any given moment...

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago

Kamala Harris is working tirelessly for a ceasefire.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 21 points 23 hours ago

but getting angry won’t get you anything

Being angry is a prerequisite to the things you listed, and also, you forgot the most important item: Organize. There's simply no way America gets a happy ending without a general strike, and the work to make that possible starts now, right this second.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 15 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I'm of the opinion that MLK Jr. was largely successful because folks saw the alternative was Malcolm X... and they still fought MLK Jr. tooth and nail.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

You need two things to get a political movement going. First you need to reach a critical mass by creating public sympathy for your movement. This can almost only be done with peaceful protests like MLK. Violent resistance is too easy to demonize and shut down when people do not sympathize with your cause.

Then the critical mass needs to be turned into action, which is what Malcolm X did.

If you start off the movement too radically, it will never be able to reach critical mass.

[–] Sibshops@lemm.ee 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

He's the current most watched left wing political streamer.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 9 points 22 hours ago

Every change for the good must be backed up with “And we will fight you to the death over this.”

Fourth box.

[–] kruhmaster@sh.itjust.works 3 points 22 hours ago

We did all those things, none of them worked.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don’t even know who this guy is

His uncle was a founder of The Young Turks, and gave him an internship. One day a host was sick so they plugged him in, and then he started streaming on his own.

He's an incredibly wealthy nepo baby who doesn't actually understand politics, just that shit is fucked.

So he can never articulate solutions, he just complains about problems.

His entire business model is getting on twitch. Reading news articles about how fucked shit is, then saying:

Chat, is this fucked? This is fucked, right?

And everyone agrees with him because shit has been fucked for decades.

But you'll never hear give a single solution, so compared to stuff like Cody Johnson I just don't see the appeal. I guess he makes some people feel smart when they agree that shits fucked.

[–] warm@kbin.earth 9 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I havent watched him, so cant speak directly for his content, but isn't pointing out problems to a large audience better than not?

If he doesnt know the solutions, why not leave that to someone who does instead of suggesting something that could possibly be harmful?

I think highlighting the real issues to the population is important because right now the blame for everything is wrongly put on immigrants and minorities.

I know Twitch causes echochambers in the channels, but maybe a few right wing people are curious about his stream and it could make them think differently?

[–] Keeponstalin@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

I recommend just listening to him yourself and making up your own mind instead of whatever bullshit that dude is saying
