What if on the most advansed stages AI will realize that the goal is to do so much that it would not have to do anything anymore. What if it will realize concept of laziness? We teach AI to set its own goals based on past experiences. This is the same that people do and the best what people could come up with is retire rich, so you can just do nothing. Why would AI not arrive to the same conclusion?

Given all of the recent advancements, how close do you think we really are to this scenario?

Seems just throwing media spotlight or investing money isn't enough at all.. What we need is long-term but more researchers and defense style focus on these innovations

I am fascinated by AI and blown-away by the current breakthroughs (LLM's).

I do not have much money but I have a lot of time and passion so if there's anything I, or we, could do, to speed things up and achieve AGI/ASI, I'm allll ears!

Original Title: How many people in this sub think the "gov" or a secret corporation are currently in possession of cutting edge tech and are abusing it in "black project" confidentiality to retain power, status and money ?

There is just too much going on in the world right now.

I think of this principle when it comes to technological abuse.

Do people really think cancer hasn't been cured yet ? Do people know why it would be hidden from the world ? Now apply this principle to any other field of technology. It blows my mind how people are oblivious to this anti human abuse. It exhausts me that this subreddit believes everything they see on their timeline is cutting edge and brand new knowledge when in reality, it's likely this knowledge is 2, 5, even 10 yrs old, it's just been secret from you, you see.

jesus christ, we are putting ads in people's dreams without their knowledge. How more capitalist can you get ?

I didn't know it, but LANGUAGE is a any-dimension translation medium.

It is a logical substrate that anything can bathe in. Be destroyed, and reborn. Compressed, expanded, manipulated [to it's core] and be recreated.

Like lego (of logic), anything can travel through it. Stories capture a form of almost unlimited depth and breadth.

If computers can manipulate language, they can manipulate anything. ++++++anything++++++

LLMs can compute language.

So it's the year 01

So, to my understanding, generally editing- while it can change a few things- ultimately, can't do a whole lot once a body is fully developed. If we're actually going to try and pursue any meaningful longevity/modifications, would it just he better to replace parts of ourselves with mechanically analogous modules? How far along are we with cybernetics anyways? I've seen some pretty interesting progression in the field of prosthetic limbs, although it seems we're nowhere near feasibly creating anything better than the body. How long until this changes, do you think?

Original Title: Isn’t it absolute black magic fuckery how in maybe 1 year, y’all be able to just pull any fictional character into literal existence and have a freaking conversation with them? Imagine if you told the authors of 100 years ago their characters might materialize in the future. That shit is crazy.

I mean you could do that right now with text already, since the biggest model have a great understanding of popular media, but it’s kinda flawed yet and quickly breaks immersion. Imagine if these models get more and more lifelike, with voices and shit, and someone ties everything together and then you might be able to specifically finetune the model on lets say Harry Potter and create a specialist model on a single character. In one year from now, this will be like actually talking to them.

Hell, even imagine if someone puts them agents into a digital frame with a little webcam and a mic. You could deadass have Dumbledores Portrait in your room and ask him for advices and he will be EXACTLY like in the movies.

  1. The Hype Uppers: These folks are permanently stationed in their mom’s basements that is probably a total mess They have a religious devotion to spreading the message of "the exponential progress of ai" often using words like quantum, posting hype comments, they check the agi countdowns and new updates every day.
  2. The Doomers: they spam every post with dull comments, They've replaced their Alexa with a parrot, Stocking up on batteries, just so they can bargain with our future robot overlords, Always prepared, they've got a spare EMP in their back pocket. Just in case. Their daily ponder? "If I'm nice to Siri now, will that help later?"
  3. The Deniers: Working the same 9-5 for decades, they're not swayed by tech's flashy promises. "They said said AI was coming soon 50 years ago" "If robots ever 'take over', it'll be a problem for someone 200 years from now", they are convinced they'll never see a true AGI in their lifetime, no matter the evidence. probably have nothing to do on r/singualrity.
  4. The 'AI will save the world' Optimists: Found mostly spreading positivity in the bleakest threads, they believe AGI will solve every problem. Climate change? "Just wait for the AGI-fix!" World hunger? "AGI-made food coming right up!" religiously awaiting their digital God.
  5. The Memers: Honestly, we're here for them. They don’t take anything seriously and have a meme for every occasion. You say AGI, they hear "Another Meme Opportunity."
  6. The LK-99 Room Temperature Superconductor Specialists: Very niche group. They always somehow steer the conversation back to superconductors. "Yeah, AGI is cool and all, but have you tried using LK-99 Room Temp Superconductors?"
  7. The Article Posters: They've read every single article about AGI, singularity, and related tech – and they're here to make sure you've read them too. Twice. Bless their informed hearts.
  8. The AI Content Gurus: The new kids on the block. Armed with the latest AI tools, they're constantly dropping mind-blowing AI-generated art, music, and videos. If it's cool, trippy, and seems impossible – these geeks made it.

I do not know if this is rational, but these days literally all emerging technology and science news that is not about AI seems quaint by comparison. We have humans accomplishing in years what the next Proto AGI could accomplish in minutes. Todays Proto AGI's can do 100s of years of human intellectual work in mere minutes, how much more in the next 2 years.

If you are not contributing to AGI, then your contribution to the future of humanity and life on earth seems miniscule in comparison. At best, you work is merely data a future ASI could use when answering a prompt.

"It's called Pines' Demon, predicted in 1956 by late physicist David Pines, and its discovery in a material called strontium ruthenate (Sr2RuO4) marks the first time it has been identified in an equilibrium 3D metal.

Since Pines' Demon is predicted to play an important role in a wide range of phenomena, such as transitions in particular kinds of semimetals and superconductivity, the work has important implications for material physics."
