Hi Community,

I wanted to ask do you prefer using switch oled or using emulation via steam deck, etc ?

Do you like the oled screen or do you like that you can tinker to increase FPS, etc which are you?

This is open opinion, so all comments welcome.

Have had a steam deck now since December I’ve been using for all kinds of emulation but lately been playing my actual GBA SP a lot lately especially in bed. Saw the Miyoo Mini + and the Anbernic systems popping up on TikTok lately. Spend the last few days looking at them and they seem to be a good alternative to my physical GBA SP when I don’t want to play the bigger deck for mostly GB games. Was tossed up between a Mini + due to reports of great screens and build quality or the RG35XX/RG353V for larger size comfort. Gave in and just ordered a Mini + that should be delivered today. Looking forward to messing with it

Hi everyone. I’ve been lurking for a while and have been considering an emulation device. I have an OLED Nintendo switch and find that it has ruined console gaming for me because I find I have zero interest in playing anything on a console and a TV, thus my interest in handheld devices.

I’m looking specifically for something to run PSX and N64 games well, assuming that it would also run SNES, GBA, GBC etc

I’ve looked into some Miyoo products, Retroid, Powkiddy etc, but can’t seem to feel like I have a good grasp on which one would be ideal. I do want to have joysticks and a device shaped similarly to a switch/GBA, buttons and sticks beside the screen is ideal, but not a deal breaker.

I’m not sure if it matters, but the games I’m particularly interested in running are:

Psx: Final Fantasy Series, Chocobo Racing, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon

N64: Ogre Battle 64, Diddy Kong Racing, LoZ games

Thank you in advance!

I got my RG405 today and I began to try it out. Some aspects are rough but the N64 and psp emulation were good. I’m going to try out a Retroid Pocket 3+ on Monday. Am I missing any other devices to try?

So the Win 600 got ragged on on its initial release, mostly for its weak chip and the cost when compared to the Deck as well as the choice for single channel memory.

However, now that new Intel entry-level chips are coming out...the single channel memory choice actually makes sense, seeing as the Intel chips are single channel as well. The issue was with using an AMD chip with the then dated Vega architecture, which demanded multiple channel memory for better performance.

Everything surprisingly fits if you pretend the PCB was designed for Intel. Single-channel, rated for 5-6W (yes, the N100 is marketed for desktops, but it's virtually a mobile/laptop chip anyways and the Win 600 came with an internal fan), the chip can fit in a 3" x 3" space, ideal for portability, and it's very cheap and not in demand. The N100 is even more powerful with more cores, increased clock speeds and a more powerful Iris Xe 24 EU iGPU. The only thing I would change would be the screen to a 480p one to set consumer expectations better and to cut costs down.

but Windows isn't designed for 480p 4:3!

AYN ironically proved this wrong with their resolution utility, with Windows 11 running at 720 x 480 just fine.

With the Deck having thoroughly cornered the 720p-800p space a lot of companies have moved into the luxury demographic to adapt, but I still think technology has moved far along enough that a 480p budget handheld, and more importantly, pocketable PC is viable.

Without a big into :)

my son would love to play WII U, Switch (at higher then Switch resolution) and partially PS3. Is that something that will work 100% smoothly (Wii U and Switch) on the Steam Deck?

Youtube videos seem to agree but we know very well that it is easy to put together 15 seconds clip of super smooth parts of the game. You Deck owner can confirm that it will be a pleasant experience?

For him forking out 400$ is quite an effort (he is 10 and will ask money as present from all relatives at xmas and buy it himself) and I would love to spare him the pain of a big disappointment.

I've been seeing these devices popping up the last year or so and I decided to take a look around.

First, I'll say prices are significantly higher than reviews (even as recent as 7-21 days ago) lead me to believe. For example, they will say RG353V is like $65 but I can't find it for less than ~$110.

Now, there's so many options it's making me freeze in my tracks. I have no clue what makes a good device, and everyone had wildly varying opinions.

Ideally, I'd like to emulate some PS2 games. I realize that might be asking a lot, but I'd love to play Shadow of the Collosus, Time Splitters, Jak and Dexter and more. It's not 100% mandatory, but wow it'd be cool!

My journey started with looking at the Anbernic RG353V (stupid temu ad on Twitter said it was $12, but of course that was a joke - wish I looked at the ad comments before I signed up). For overall bang for the buck, this is looking to be my lead choice, but I'm wondering if there's something better? They have a ton of devices themselves, and then there's other companies like PowKiddy, and even Any.

I wasn't expecting to spend so much, and was going they'd be like $50-100, but I'm not seeing that as the case. Or maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, or the wrong devices?

Halp! I don't know what to do, there's too many options and I don't understand the performance and build differences!!!!

Original Title: Just finished my favourite arcade game from 25+ years ago on my first retro handheld (for less than £20 this DataFrog SF2000 is brilliant for arcade games!, slightly lacking in other places but really can't complain at the price)

The main feature of the upgraded model I’m interested in is the touch screen, as I imagine that’ll make playing NDS games much easier. Does the standard model have a substitute for the touch screen interface that makes playing NDS games tolerable? If so, I’ll probably opt for it and save some money

Also, as a curiosity, how well does it handle NDS, PSP, PS1, and N64 emulation? If it’s subpar then I’ll honestly probably opt to save even more money and get the RG35XX and just play older games that emulate well, but I’m glad to shell out the extra money if it can run them well

As adults, I think few of us have the raw tenacity of childhood left inside. I quickly discovered this to be the case when I tried to 100% Mario 2: the Lost Levels. What game made you give up on a stateless complete?

Hey gang!

I've got an RG353P I've been tinkering with this past week and think I've finally got things set up perfectly 😅 I was looking to play my very first FE game and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good game to jump into the series with. Haven't played a ton of tactics games but excited to cut my teeth on the series!
