The Fisherman is a horror novel by John Langan that won the 2016 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel. The story follows two widowers, Abe and Dan, who bond over their shared grief and a passion for fishing. When they hear rumors of a mysterious and cursed fishing spot called Dutchman's Creek, they decide to investigate, despite warnings from locals. Soon, the men find themselves drawn into a tale as deep and old as the Reservoir. It's a tale of dark pacts, of long-buried secrets, and of a mysterious figure known as Der Fisher: the Fisherman. It will bring Abe and Dan face to face with all that they have lost, and with the price they must pay to regain it.

Horrorstör is a 2014 horror comedy novel written by Grady Hendrix and illustrated by Michael Rogalski. The novel is set in ORSK, an IKEA-like store, where a group of employees - including store manager Basil and employees Amy and Ruth Anne - stay overnight to investigate strange supernatural occurrences. The story follows Amy, who is unhappy with her job at ORSK. As the group investigates the store, they discover that the land was previously the site of a prison with a cruel warden named Worth. The ghosts of the prisoners, known as "penitents", haunt the store and try to capture the employees. Amy and Basil manage to escape the store before it floods, but the other employees are not so lucky. In the end, a new store called Planet Baby is built on the site, and Amy and Basil vow to rescue the remaining employees trapped inside.

At the moment, I'm reading The Fireman by Joe Hill. He doesn't consider it horror and honestly, at the stage I'm at in the book, I would have to agree with that assessment, but, it is widely accepted as such.

In the past week I've read:

I absolutely love Lee Mountford's writing; it's jam-packed with action and there's no beating around the bush. His books are typically quite short and to the point.

I have to say, though, The Fireman is really good so far. It's at a point where things are kind of slow so I hope it picks up a bit.

Anyway, enough about me. What are you reading or have recently read?

I reviewed The Vessel, a folk horror novel by Adam Nevill (best known for The Ritual). Tense and claustrophobic!
