On Anime

While Anime is a beloved animation style with a rich history and extensive following, our focus here leans towards other forms of animation. This is due to the immense popularity of Anime in online spaces, which is amply covered by other dedicated communities.

This doesn't mean that Anime related conversation is not allowed here, only that it's not our focus. For a dedicated Anime instance, check out ani.social.

On Technical Discussion

While our primary goal is to discuss animated media, conversations about animation techniques and the process of creating animation are also welcome. It's funny that the conclusion is basically: "Make good movies, and then leave them in theaters long enough to actually earn some money."

Fans of the Predator franchise got exciting news this week when it was announced that Predator: Badlands, the next installment in the Predator franchise, would hit theaters in November 2025 but then got even better news when it was revealed that another, secret Predator film was also coming out in 2025 with it also being directed by Prey filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg That’s two Predator films from Trachtenberg next year, but now, a new rumor may be shedding some light on what to expect from that secret, second film and according to Gizmodo, it might just be an animated anthology.

Per their report, the secret Predator movie is looking like it will be an animated feature that will be anthology-like in that it will tell three different stories of different Predators fighting warriors across multiple eras. The report suggests that one could be pirates, one samurai, and a third unknown one.

Shinichirō Watanabe – the director and one of the main creators behind the legendary Cowboy Bebop – says his new anime is his 'masterpiece.'

As reported by Anime News Network, Watanabe took to the stage at New York Comic Con for a panel on upcoming sci-fi anime Lazarus, describing it as a 'masterpiece' and 'something he hopes will contribute to his legacy.'

Lazarus centres on the 2050s and the release of a miracle drug Hapuna patented by Dr. Skinner (Koichi Yamadera). However, it is later revealed that everyone who has taken the drug will die within three years – and the hunt is suddenly on to find Skinner and the Lazarus vaccine.

The first look at the Adult Swim series was also released recently. In the clip, which you can see below, fugitive Axel Gilberto is on the run – with the protagonist even showing off some Spike-like reflexes to slip past the authorities. It even goes full Mirror's Edge in places, with Axel's parkour skills making sure he evades the grasp of those chasing him down.

As if there wasn't enough reason to get excited about Lazarus (which is currently slated for a 2025 release), John Wick series director Chad Stahleski – who himself has reportedly been busy on Ballerina reshoots – is also 'heavily involved' with designing the action sequences in the show.

A prequel anime feature is also currently in development, and it will finally show at least some of John’s storied “impossible task” that permitted him to retire for love.

"Right now, we’re knee-deep in development on a feature anime about John Wick. It’s a prequel to the movies, which is awesome. It’s fun that it’s in a different medium."

Beloved children’s TV series Pingu is set to be revived in a new adaptation from Barbie company Mattel and Wallace & Gromit creators Aardman.

The original Pingu launched on BBC One in 1990. A Swiss-German production, the TV series was designed by Otmar Gutmann, and followed the adventures of an impish penguin in the South Pole. The character was known for his catchphrase, “Noot noot”.

Pingu originally ran until 2000, and was briefly revived on British TV between 2003 and 2006.

The new series will be stop-motion animation, in the same vein as the original.

Mattel Television Studios, the TV arm of toy conglomerate Mattel, acquired the rights to Pingu in 2011 when it purchased HIT Entertainment.

Up until I saw the person I couldn't even tell this was 3d which is saying something because the vast majority of 3d trying to emulate 2d I have seen has a weird plastic look to them.

Campbell said, “We’re just developing it. So we are, but these are slow-motion, molasses processes, so it could be years away.”
