Are you an Anarchist? The answer might surprise you!

Rules:

  1. Be respectful
  2. Don't be a nazi
  3. Argue about the point and not the person
  4. This is not the place to debate the merits of anarchism itself. While discussion is encouraged, getting in your “epic dunks on the anarkiddies” is not. As a result of the instance’s poor moderation policies and hostility toward anarchists by default, lemmygrad users are encouraged not to post here, though not explicitly disallowed if they aren’t just looking to start a fight.

The Free Software Foundation fights for freedom in computing. Among other the 4 software freedoms all free software adheres to:

  • The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose (freedom 0).
  • The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
  • The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others (freedom 2).
  • The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others (freedom 3). By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

The FSF fights for what i personally would consider anarchist principles as they fight proprietary software that abuses the user and denies them freedom on their own computer.

They also recommend these Operation Systems that recommend user's freedoms:

https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html

This gives you full control over your computer instead of putting you at the mercy of companies or governments. Very important I would assume for a lot of anarchists.

Does the Satoshi revolution need more time?

Most governments are introducing taxes on wallets and NFTs, and all content creators in the industry care to teach you to pay your taxes properly.

The biggest threat to global finance embedded in the system, in general indifference.

Wasn't this supposed to be in every person's hands? Off-grid, decentralized as it is in its nature?

(edit)

Yes, I haven't read "Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution" by Kropotkin wich I discovered only recently.

Hi, I with a few people are trying to start a remote game-dev studio inspired by Motion Twin, we would horizontally make decisions on what game idea to work and we would horizontally decide salary if we ever got to the stage of creating games with commercial potential. If anyone is interested you can join us, we are so far mostly interested in using Godot for development cause it is FOSS. We have not incorporated yet anywhere because we have just started and I think that for a long time this will be a part time project with various people having different amount of time to work on the project. If anyone is interested then we can get in touch. We are anarchists/libertarian socialists and we think of this as a political project too.

You break my back. You won't break me.
All is black
But I still see
Shut me down
Save me from myself
Shoot me up
Let me burn in hell
Trapped under ice
Comfortably cold
I've gone as low as you can go
Feel no remorse
No sense of shame
Time's gonna wash away all pain
I made a god
Out of blood
Not superiority
I killed the king
Of deceit
Now I sleep in anarchy
Sacrifice to the cause
Turn your code into law
Compensate to validate the loss
Take a thief, nail him to a cross
Gospel of rage
Faction of hate
Deviate from the absolute
Born of revenge
Raised on cement
Chaos created government
I made a god out of blood
Not superiority
I killed the king
Of deceit
Now I sleep in anarchy
I made a god out of blood
Not superiority
I killed the king
Of deceit
Wake me up in anarchy

I saw another post here with very good recommendations on anarchist readings, but it was mostly non-fiction. Do you know about works of fiction (games, films, books...) that speculate how a fully-fledged anarchist society could be like (as in Ursula K Le Guin 'The Dispossessed')?

Hey, there is now an Anarchism public group on Nostr. Nostr is a very simple protocol which aims to become the ultimate decentralized social network, already fulfilling functionality of Twitter, Reddit (not very advanced tho), Twitch, Telegram and more. It is also uncensorable.

It is also more anarchist than the fediverse because your identity there is not bound to a server/domain which can be shut down or moderated at any time.

To join the group, you have to search for this ID: nevent1qqs05w7vklg8ewh4g7u8rafp3dsvtcw3j7v9j4v7n4k5fxxewaggjdspp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuerpw3sju6rpw4esz9rhwden5te0dehhxarj9ehhsarj9ejx2assy2425

On Android the app Amethyst is very good. With Nostr, the client handles everything. The servers are just dumb relays which don't need to be trusted. That's why there are a lot of different clients. Each one is implementing different aspects of the protocol and they are always evolving.

If you want to have a peek at the group you can also check here: https://coracle.social/chat/note1lgaued7s0ja023acw86jrzmqchsar9uct92ea8tdgjvdja6s3ymqa579ar

EDIT: There are a LOT of Nostr resources available and you can decide how deep you want to dive into it. A very basic and easy introduction is https://usenostr.org/ . The devs website nostr.com also does a good job of getting the point across. There is an awesome list which can point you to any Nostr related resources like which clients to use and also what other introductory guides are availabe: https://github.com/aljazceru/awesome-nostr

Popular clients including web, desktop and mobile are also described here: https://nostr.com/clients

Note that Nostr is very decentralized and that some clients implement features which other clients don’t (yet).

This video can also show you visually how the relationship between clients and relays works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIccRIEr2gQ

The Prisoners Union (Serikat Tahanan) was officially assembled on July 17 2023, started by the initiatives of six inmates from six correctional institutions in Indonesia. Now, Serikat Tahanan represents eleven detainees ranging from arsoning cases, vandalism for incitement to riots, and marijuana and other types of drug use.

We have been writing, or at least learning to write, our own experiences and thoughts inside the prison. We want to publish these writings but, of course, we don’t have money. Indonesia's corrupt prison system provides inadequate food rations and forces prisoners to pay for it themselves. All these time we have been living off solidarity from comrades outside prison as it's almost impossible for us to work. Lack of funds and bribe-ridden prison conditions worsen our lives and hamper our writing project. We will use the proceeds from book sales to run the program that has been determined and run by the prisoners themselves.

Therefore we ask the international anti-authoritarian activists, anarchists, anti-fascists and abolitionist networks to stand in solidarity in our efforts to publish our writings.

Here's the fundraiser link: https://www.firefund.net/serikattahananwritings

Over the centuries humans have folded themselves into power structures that benefit the few at the expense of the many. In the same way that the imperialist subjugates and exploits the third world and the capitalist exploits the worker, the human has positioned itself at the top of an explotative and murderous relationship to nonhuman animals. The beneficiaries of the status quo will emphasise their personal benefits, while refusing to acknowledge even so much as the existence, let alone the moral value, of their victims. When forced to engage with them, the justifications are often times the same - considering the outgroup to be deserving of oppression due to a perceived lack of valuable traits, be it intelligence, the ability to "contribute" to society or emotional "depth". If we let our morality only apply to our chosen ingroup rather than extending it to all sentient life, we will inadvertantly leave intact the same unjust power structures we readily criticise in the rest of society. Working towards a life that doesn't contribute to animal exploitation is not just possible but necessary. Go vegan.

Hello everyone, this is my first post on Lemme and a introduction to me and what I am about.

I assume most of you here are in a attempt to escape the corporate click and scroll economy that has become our internet overtaken by major companies who control most of what we see online. That is Google, MicroSoft, Amazon, Meta and Twitter to name a few but we also know that they work for the government and use mass surveillance using the data collected.

As a supporter of Open Source and GNU along with cryptography I believe that information is a general right to the people and the internet was created by us and should be ran by us.

'The organization of the digital economy through the social ownership of digital assets and democratic control over the infrastructure and systems that govern our digital lives.

A broad ecology of social ownership acknowledges the multiple and overlapping associations to which individuals belong and promotes the flourishing of different communities from mutual societies to platform co-operatives, data trusts and international social networks.'

Sound about right? As a programmer and hacktivist I believe it is my duty to protect and preserve our online ecosystem. Creating communities that work towards these goals is a major theme in my life both online and off.

So what am I going for?

I would like to build and network with like minded individuals and find a sense of community in a space like the fediverse. I am a fan and user of Linux especially Arch where I can control exactly what is on my machine, and for productivity I pretty much live inside of Emacs. I am working on my static web page where I will have a blog, RSS feed and webring. But I was never really into front end web development, I mainly write in Python and Rust.

You can follow me and contact me via Mastadon; @0xBlockz@kolektiva.social
