Somewhat notable due to previous drama these two groups seem to have had previously.

The following screenshot is from a few weeks back:

I've used proton for a year or two now and it is fine. Great for use on my phone when I want to use public/airport wifi and it sort of kind of works with gluetun (the rotating port is annoying but it still is a forwarded port).

But I've increasingly been annoyed with Proton as a company and am looking to migrate my email/domain to fastmail in the very near future. I COULD continue to just pay for the vpn (60 USD a year is pretty reasonable) but also feel like this is a good opportunity to "shop around"

Checked the wiki and other FAQs (which all basically crib from said wiki) and they all basically boil down to proton or mullivad... except that mullivad apparently stopped allowing port forwarding which is a bit of an issue for any torrents and the like.

So are there any other good options?

Thanks

What public trackers do you always add to every torrent?

Where does everyone get music scene releases? I am able to find new releases OK but finding older/rare releases is tough. Are there online communities, IRC chats, torrent sites, etc?

Title from the article. Interesting article, with some good words from our DRM-free favorite Cory Doctorow.

Seedbox: how to start? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Hi people! I have been pirating for myself for over 30 years now, and with the ever growing size of warez and the laughable upstream limit my ISP has, i have come to the point where it's not practical to maintain a 1:1 ratio for all torrents anymore - my active torrent list keeps growing beyond practical limits, and i'm someone who wants to keep sharing things for the people after me, esp. torrents with low amounts of seeds.

I'm pretty sure that i know more than i think i do, but i would be happy about a few pointers to get started with a seedbox. i have beginner linux skills, advanced user skills, and not shy of reading manuals on how to get things to work. i have not tinkered with docker much yet, but i'm willing to learn.

Edit: From what i've learned and seen i tend towards an dedicated server since i might want to host other services for myself too, so suggestions for what hoster to look at are welcome!

Hi, I've found some resources to Jailbreak the Nintendo Switch. However I've got some bad experience with jailbreaking with nintendo stuff. Futhermore, my Switch is updated, and it seems to not be a good thing.

Do you have some more updated resources to do so ? Do you have some advice ?

Thank you very much

~~My network has reset several times and I've narrowed it down to an apparent DDOS attack. Never the same IP source, all hitting the specific port I use for incoming qBt traffic, shutting down the client doesn't help, router is getting 10-20 requests per second for idk, several hours. Is there anything I can do about this?~~

Edit: Thanks everyone, it's apparently not an attack and my router just sucks aha. It was overheating so I took its coat off. My router's log was filled with "DoS(SyN-Flooding)" messages, and according to Wikipedia that's a DDoS attack.

Been wondering if there's a place I can listen to Spatial Audio versions of music. Does anyone know any places that support spatial audio playback?

Years ago someone on a certain dedicated ereader fourm shared a fixed updated stardict version of the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. This is of one of the rare holy grails of digital dictionary files, as you cant find a properly working version of this dict anywhere on the usual sites just one scuffed conversion version with broken formatting.

Unfortunately it was only available a very short time before a mod removed the links on the fourm for copyright infringement policy.

So now they are gone off the public internet for good AFAIK. Every now and then I see people in the fourms asking for links to these specific files.

I was fortunate enough to save everything the generous user shared while still available and still have them locally. I would like to make these files available and easily findable to anyone who wants them. Can you please give a newbie some guidance on how to best do this?

Edit: Heres the links to the files! Thanks to all the community members who gave feedback you are all awesome!!

what are some of the methods or guides to download or ripping videos from various sites also any way to download from premium file hosts like rapidgator and others

I'll admit, when I first started torrent I was not really familiar with how it worked and how important seeding was. I would just use magnet links without configuration to save the torrent and seed after completion. Well.. I have finally, got myself back to 1.00 after a couple months and working to try to always seed double what I get for each torrent.

Often times I was one of the few random seeders available for some of these torrents. Friendly reminder to give back because you never know when you're one of the rare cases that can complete someones long lost file download!

Nyaa.Land is my goto for manga torrents but I can't find what I'm looking for (OG Astro Boy) there. The Eng translation of the original torrents is dead.

Are there any other good sites for torrenting manga? I couldn't find anything in the Megathread.

Is retroshare the new iteration of this?

Hello, i wanted to know to what extent do the ISPs or police pursue torrenting. In the 90's it was acceptable and fairly wide-spread. I am unsure how it looks now.

I want to download a couple of videos from creators I like, to keep them in case they are ever lost later (whether due to censorship or drama, etc). What is the best method to use for getting files from youtube? bonus points especially if they result in file types that I can burn to a dvd.

Sometimes I stumble across content that I have been looking for for a while or that I know is rare or missing "out there". Might be that I snipe a rare CD from the 90s on eBay. Might be that I get my hands on some ancient software or driver CD or some old firmware images that might be relevant for retro computing. Might be that I have some scans of a repair manual or schematics that is impossible to get.

Point is: I can't exactly put that stuff on archive.org, but it feels like I should put it somewhere so that the next person searching for it has an easier time and also so that some culturally relevant things don't get lost. What is your solution to that problem?

I have been torrenting the same primitive way for a long time. Turn on a VPN, open up a browser I only use for this purpose, go to tpb or yts, grab my movie, and shut it all down when the movies over.

I've only updated my torrent client in this time, the method has not evolved.

Now im interested in self hosting jellyfin with an arr stack, with the end goal being to share it with friends and family outside my lan. I'd like to use docker containers so its all containerized, and of course keep it safe and secure.

What kind of set up, from hardware to software, would you recommend to get this going? Any guides in particular? I'm especially iffy on allowing remote access for non-tech savvy family (like a roku app), so any tips/guide recs for that would be helpful.

I've been searching around some and I've found a lot of resources but I'd like to get the opinions of people in here before diving in.

I have some beginner questions, for example: if I have the arr stack running in docker with a vpn, can I browse the internet non-anonymously on that same machine without compromising identifying details, assuming qbittorrent is configured to only move traffic through a VPN? (I'm wondering if I need a dedicated piece of hardware to run everything safely)

Tldr: Suggestions or guides for beginner setting up jellyfin/arr/ remote access for family?
