I have one and opted for a Oneplus 6 running postmarketOS because of the pinephone's many shortcomings:

  • Terrible battery life when on, though can last on standby
  • Phone has terrible performance. It is frustrating to do basic tasks because it is too slow.
  • It gets uncomfortably hot when using it.

Some things I liked:

  • Screen was fine
  • All the phone hardware features work (unlike my op6)
  • Plastic back makes the phone pretty rugged.

I might have stayed with the pinephone if it was more powerful like the pro, and might have brought a battery bank so I don't have to worry about running out.

That is why my restaurant will number tables by UUID.

Yes it has eye tracking hardware, but the eye tracking is currently available only if you use a PS5. Hopefully community effort can change that, but don't count on it.

If you have low enough latency to their datacenter, it might be viable. You would probably be better off building a cheap PC from a used office computer and a new GPU. Especially if you can get something like a a750 for cheap.

I know there are a niche of users that see eye tracking as a requirement for their VR usage. Currently, the quest pro is basically the only mainstream headset with this feature, but has many design flaws. I could see this headset being compelling to those people. Other than that, this thing looks too heavy and complicated to be good for PCVR.

I would assume the software will be similar to their previous standalone headsets, meaning something like Wivrn should work for streaming over the network. But I would bet alot of money that the DP mode will not support linux in any sort of official way. Just look to the vive pro 2 or vive XR elite.

I know for me personally, its worth the time to set things up myself since I usually learn something new along the way. If you don't care about the learning aspect and just want the finished product, paying someone else is probably a good idea.

That's seems like a good idea, considering the plethora of videos online of packages being stolen with an obvious camera watching the thieves.

That and it has full functionality in the browser. No bullshit "download the app".

I personally am migrating accounts and contacts from my gmail address to my own domain set up with Zoho. Pretty cheap for the yearly subscription and I like knowing that my nail is not with an advertising company.
