Yeah no, there's absolutely no way you're arguing this in good faith or being serious whatsoever there's just no way lmao

So, I guess Tree of Life massacre wasn't racist nor antisemitic because most of the victims were "white" Jews. Nor was the Charlottesville riot. Or the synagogue firebombings. Or the antisemitic slurs I've been called online and offline. Thank you for taking the time to educate me about my own oppression, how very kind of you.

What was the holocaust then?

There is nuance here that to ignore completely is not only contributing to antisemitism but is just factually incorrect. That's not how antisemitism works. White passing Jews are still Jewish, and still experience antisemitism. To say they don't is antisemitic.

That privilege is conditional and nuanced, Judaism is an ethnoreligion. They experience antisemitism very much so.

What the fuck? I looked at that title and thought there was no way I am reading this right, but yep I am.

Society doesn’t owe blanket protections over all ideas coming from marginalized or minority groups without first evaluating the context or the substance.

I wonder if you'd say the same for other marginalized groups and have this big of a questioning mentality if they weren't Jews when they ask others to be mindful of times that might be used to perpetuate harm against them.

Antizionism is not inherently antisemitism but is commonly co-opted to peddle antisemitism especially online. No one worth your time outside of zionist nationalist circles are saying that speaking out against Israel is a hate crime, and to say such feels very disingenuous. Most American Jews, especially young American Jews, are actively opposed to the Israeli government and it's war crimes and actively discuss this stuff. Saying this however only serves to feel like a minimization of very real antisemitism and makes Jews feel unsafe and alienated away from discussing this with you even as a potential ally.

Some weeks I read a crap ton, some weeks I don't. What's matter is you're reading what you enjoy. Know that reading at least one book in a year is more than most people, so that's an accomplishment in of itself!

https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/antisemitism this article specifically and the series of it goes into detail more beyond that

Don't attempt to explain my own peoples hatred to me. I know more than you as I've lived this, as a Jew who is explicitly not a Zionist and has faced antisemitism online and offline. Stop.

Any group. Antisemitism is unfortunately a unique form of racism that can be perpetuated by anyone. It's complicated, and it's complexity makes it all the more frustrating. It's not just a Nazi thing, it's an anyone thing. Anyone can perpetuate antisemitism, not just Nazis. That's why it's such a prevalent form of bigotry across the world. It's also prevalent not just in Europe but there is antisemitism that has been culturally common in the Middle East as well as it is in the West, most of it which predates Israels founding as a whole too. That doesn't justify Israels bullshit and their fascist government. Jew's are hated by nearly everyone, everywhere.

Because West media purposely masking Israel with the cloak of cultural protection given to Jews is often what I discuss with my friend and is fucking disgusting and a disservice to all of the innocent Jews.

This specifically is something to be very careful when stating, as it veers dangerously close into territory of "jews control the media" which is an antisemitic conspiracy theory. I know what you are trying to say and our intentions seem to be in good faith here, but I ask you to analyze that as it is one of those things that people may take in very bad faith.

https://www.ushmm.org/antisemitism/what-is-antisemitism/explained <- this is a good primer for it. It's extremely complicated and there's a reason why even in the US many well intentioned people don't understand it either. It also doesn't help that Israel uses legit examples of antisemitism to try and shield their war crimes from criticism.

It was lagging the instance quite a bit, and really isn't necessary given the amount of active users we have now and the communities already federated in.

If you want to see new communities that might not be federated yet though, per usual feel free go to https://lemmyverse.net or !newcommunities@lemmy.world

Audiobooks at their heart (at least in the form of "talking books") were made with accessibility in mind after all. Pretty much every new book that comes out is recorded as an Audiobook in some fashion as well. Audible exclusives always felt quite scummy for that reason alone, as it is restricting what is at it's heart an accessible media format.

I'm very curious if it's mainstream popularity though has led to more blind/visually impaired people being able to consume more books than before. It would be really cool if it has or has at least loosened that barrier a bit more!

Stephen King: My Books Were Used to Train AI::One prominent author responds to the revelation that his writing is being used to coach artificial intelligence.

Unsure when it will be resolved but we will see.

It was a cheesy Hannukah romance book but the main character in the book "The Matzah Ball" made so mad at times that I just know I was annoyed at her but to this day I have no idea why exactly. Her vibes were just yucky I guess
