My "other app" has the comment section. Can't say about the official one. Haven't touched it in years.

Okay thanks! I guees no use in taking the risk. I've started the return process.

Okay that also didn't work.

Huh, excellent idea. I got nothing to lose so...

Sorry, not sure what you're saying about the replacement. Should I look into replacing the entire pen or just the nib?

[–] SaveMotherEarthEDF@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I've cleaned it twice using dishwasher soap and water, the usual treatment. With full disassembly. But if there’s a more thorough method I'll be glad to try.

Sorry if the title is a bit vague but I recently got my hands on Jinhao Dadao as a gift for someone. But the pen skips on all the papers and some of the inks I have tried. Though this is one of the smoothest nib I've ever written with.

The seller is offering me a replacement nib but I'm not sure if it would work and if there’s a chance problem's with the feed drying out. Can I somehow rule this out?

I have a 14 days return period from Ali but if I accept the replacement nib it'll be over.

Sorry what issues? I'm using syncthing to sync between a macos laptop, a macos vm, and my main linux desktop. I sync my projects folder with a lot of git repos. Maybe I've been lucky so far but no issues with syncthing and git so far

It's really like magic sometimes

And ping all that data to CCP instead of our corporate overlords? No thanks

Just opened my board with Gateron yellows pre lubed. The blue ones aren't lubed. I found similar marks all over the keyboard. Can these marks be dangerous and how do I deal with them?

They seem to be under the transparent plastic sheet on which the switches are mounted. I think it has foam underneath.

I reckon it could be related to the permissions required to write to the usb. Perhaps udev rules could help here?

So last when I was following the issue on github, it would need to be supported by electron first. It’s in the works but for now, and take it with a grain of salt, I think the recommendation in the issue was to add the options in the desktop file or executable of the app yourself.

If you are distributing the app with the flags then just a remainder to set the compatibility of the flags such that it also works with X.

Ah the problem you are describing in wayland actually usually happens only with electron apps. Most of the electron apps require forcing them to run on wayland. They are usually running on X (x-wayland) which cause all sorts of glitches. You can use xeyes to check if the app is using xwayland or not. If eyes move when you move the cursor inside the app then it's on xwayland.

To resolve the issues for the electron apps I pass these parameters: --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland

Getting these args to flatpacks could be a bit tricky. You can usually find Appimages that can allow you to run these apps easily on wayland.

I am also on ver 550.120 so doubt that driver is the issue here.

Finally, thanks for the clear cut answer. I don't have any experience with training on AMD but the errors from nvidia are usually very obscure.

As for using gpus other than nvidia, there's a slew of problems. Mostly that on cloud where most of the projects are deployed, our options seem either limited to nvidia gpus, or cloud tpus.

Each AI experiment can cost usually in thousands of dollars and use a cluster of GPUs. We have built and modified our system for fully utilizing such an environment. I can’t even imagine shifting to Amd gpus at this point. The amount of work involved and the red tape shudder

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the typical "requirements" post, but I’ve been searching for a fountain pen and still can’t find the right one. I’m hoping to get some recommendations!

I’m looking for a pen similar to my Parker Urban—perhaps a step up in quality. Here’s what I love about the Urban: the metal body feels great in hand, and the design is sleek yet understated. It’s been a reliable companion for over five years now, and I managed to snag it for just $5 or $10 during a clearance sale. Despite its quirks, it's stuck with me while others have come and gone.

Now, this might sound like an ad, but it's not! My relationship with this pen is a bit of a love-hate situation. It was plagued by ink skips and hard starts for years until I learned some nib-tuning techniques and sanded down the nib. Now, it writes beautifully, but it's set a high bar that other pens haven’t met. I’ve given away several pens to friends and family because they just didn’t click with me (pun intended).

One major sticking point for me is the cap mechanism. Most pens I’ve tried have screw-on caps, which makes jotting down quick notes a bit of a hassle. What I’m really after is a pen with a click-on, snap-on, or bump-sealed cap—something with a satisfying seal that provides feedback when closed. Here’s a rundown of what I’ve tried so far:

  • Majohn M800 Acrylic with Bock Nib: It should have been the holy grail in my budget, given the glowing reviews, and it does write well. But it lacks a certain something I can’t quite put my finger on. Also, it has a screw-on cap.
  • Asvine V126: The screw-on cap was a drawback, and the vacuum filling mechanism kept breaking.
  • Various Chinese Pens (Hongdian, etc.): These are well-regarded by the community, but they just didn’t feel right for me. Jinhao 82: The build quality was a bit too low for my taste.
  • Jinhao X159: A great writer, but the screw-on cap meant I didn’t use it as much as I’d like.
  • Jinhao Slip-On Cap Model: The slip-on cap was a plus, but I really want a cap that has a click, snap, or at least a bit of tactile feedback when it seals.

I’m willing to splurge up to $100 if it means getting a solid pen that fits my needs. But if there’s a well-built Chinese option for less, I’d be happy to snag it too.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help!

Need to scratch the same itch with my friends, in oder of priority:

  1. Available on pc and has full coop campaign.
  2. Military shooter that has cod like difficulty.
  3. Decent graphics. Not a hard requirement but this is one of the reason that WAW isn't working for us. It's showing it's age.
  4. Old guns.

Bonus points if the game environments are destructable.

Please no zombie game like L4D2 etc. Soldier on soldier combat is our jam.

Only if battlefield 1 had coop that'd been perfect.

Thanks!

Hour after I come to this, I'm loving it. She modified it so it retains original kde look but has enough tiny details to keep it interesting. She says she'll resume the work tomorrow 🫡
