I really do. I think it will be more Lion King remake than Cats adaptation. But I'm ready to admit that I was wrong if people don't line up in droves for it. I think the first will do much better than the second, because a ton of people will say "the ending sucked. It just stopped without any resolution. And there wasn't even half the songs from Wizard of Oz."

It really grinds my gears that they took a movie-length two act play and padded it out to chop it up into two movies. And they'll be rewarded for it. Together, they'll gross over $1.5 billion, maybe over 2.

By "performer" do you mean musician? Playing bars or coffee shops here and there? I've done that for a free drink or two here and there. I think that would be one of my retirement activities if I had loads of free time, but it takes a lot of energy to set it all up and be "on" regularly while also working full time.

*puts on glasses

Oh! Oh. My crush had a crush on me the whole time. Oh, I'm an idiot. My dog is not at a farm upstate. My day is ruined.

I love the irony of putting two people in charge of an efficiency department. Satire is dead.

I'm guessing that EI is what you call unemployment benefits where you are? In which case, unfortunately no. Previous employer made up bullshit to fire me over so I wasn't eligible, and I was told I didn't work long enough at the place that burned down to qualify. My savings got almost entirely wiped out just paying rent and buying groceries.

It was a dark time full of struggles, but I got through it and I'm doing pretty well now. The silver lining is that, when I'm having a rough week, I can think back to how that chunk of life was going and know that I've gotten through worse. I was homeless for about two months a bit later, but by then I found a job and knew that I'd find stability soon. Things didn't actually start getting good until I quit the kitchen career. And I'm one of the lucky few who never even got sucked into the hard drug aspect of that life. Never even smoked a cigarette lol.

I was gonna say most of this. I would just add that now, when referring to a year between 2001 and 2009, I just say "oh [number]". So I'd say "Did Batman Begins come out in '05 or '06?"

I was unemployed for a while in late 2010, early 2011 and was constantly on the job search. I was a line cook previously and was looking for similar work. I finally got in at a sports bar, but they only had an opening for a host at the time, so I took it. When I went in on my third day, I found that the place had fucking burned down.

I was unemployed for another few months before finding a new job. That was a rough year or so lol.

I didn't think I needed to say it (based on the rest of the comment), but I haven't intentionally raped anybody either lol. I know, I'm a real hero and champion of the people for never raping anybody. Truly the Jesus of my time. It's a high bar, yet I somehow clear it every day without even breaking a sweat.

I thought I was pretty clear about it when you said that you were against the idea of posts about people defending themselves against rapists.

Being against it can only really be viewed as an objection to consequences for rapists raping people.

I'm not saying that you're currently defending rapists, but it sounds an awful lot like you would be on the rapists' side since you wouldn't stand up to a request to block content that suggests that a rape victim should defensively harm their rapist to stop their rape. If that's your stance, then that's defending a rapist. That would be advocating against consequences for rapists, and I'm assuming that only a rapist who wanted to continue getting away with it would order such a thing. Or maybe it's on behalf of their rapist friends. The point is that people who don't rape people shouldn't have any problem with the idea that rapists should know that getting killed in their quest to commit a rape is a very real possibility, and most people wouldn't even feel sorry for them for being killed while attempting rape.

If there's a situation where we need to choose whether a person gets raped or the person attempting the rape gets killed in order to stop/prevent that rape, I don't think there's even anything to debate.

It's no wonder women chose bears. jfc.

It's not advocating for violence. It's advocating for defending against rape. Without rape, which is obviously violent in and of itself, there's no violence to speak of. The bottom line here is that, through deterrence, this sort of post yields a reduction in violence. Being against it can only really be viewed as an objection to consequences for rapists raping people.

If you got a ticket ordering you to cut off Lemmy over this, then it's your duty to push back. An awful lot of terrible people were "just following orders" and the world doesn't forgive that excuse. Stop defending rapists.

Conservatives are generally hierarchical pussies. Whoever is high ranking and assertive about being the new leader will be the new leader and everybody will line up to be his footrest. Even without a decent choice, they will push somebody into the position even if they're bland garbage. Source: the shit show that was them searching for a House Speaker and settling for Mike Johnson.

The ones with the balls to break away from the party only did so to follow trump, and they now control the party because eventually the cowards got in line like good little followers. I think that trump losing this time may have convinced enough to steer the party back to a less extreme position, but his win taught them that the country is ready for full on christofascism, and there's nothing to be gained from the inevitable failure that would be an attempt to fracture/mutiny the party. They're more evil than dumb.

My wife and I have been using Cozi for years to manage our work schedules, plan dates, block off personal time, and manage grocery lists and to-do lists. There has been some pretty egregious enshittification through locking more and more essential features behind a paywall and now it's altering times for some reason and straight up losing list items and calendar entries. I'm done. Its only function was to maintain calendar items and lists so I wouldn't need to manually remember everything; it's worthless if I can't trust it to remember for me.

So now we're looking for a replacement tool to manage our family. FOSS preferred, but not required. I'm even open to using two separate apps for it, one for calendar and another for lists. We just need them to live online so we can independently add to it while the other person is asleep or at work.

I'm hoping that somebody else has already done the legwork to find the best option?
