A training montage set to music? (I'm forcing myself to not Google this first)

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm over 40 and I couldn't figure out what a rocky montage was until I read your comment. now I remember what a rocky montage is. can never forget him running up the stairs, that inspirational motivational music dubbed over

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I guess running up the stairs makes the difference between a simple training montage and a Rocky montage.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Technically concrete is a type of rock

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 7 months ago

Also called a gonna fly now montage. Both Rocky and The Karate Kid had flight theme elements.

[–] blargerer@kbin.social 25 points 7 months ago

I've always heard it called a training montage.

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 25 points 7 months ago

Also known as a training montage

[–] mysoulishome@lemmy.world 24 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Of course it’s that thing in Rocky Horror where the camera flashes from bedroom to bedroom in Frank’s sex castle and everybody is singing and fucking, then Janet realizes it’s NOT Brad in her bed

30+ here with the answer:

"Rocky montage" is a euphemism for the sex scenes in the film Brokeback Mountain, where one guy mounts the other in front of a rocky scenery.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 15 points 7 months ago

young people aren't stupid. we all know its internet slang when you go to your cousins place of business and beat his meat for him. /s

In anything, if you want to go

From just a beginner to a pro

You need a montage! (Montage!)

Even Rocky had a montage (Montage!)

edit: Oh, but sorry, not under 30. I'll see myself out.

Always fade out in a montage...

[–] essell@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

That's made with biscuit, chocolate moose and chopped nuts, right?

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 7 points 7 months ago

Of course. It's a collection of photos and videos of the Rocky Mountains

[–] Blisterexe@lemmy.zip 6 points 7 months ago

is it a montage in the style of the montages in the rocky movies?

[–] intelisense@lemm.ee 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm in my 50s and I've no fucking clue what that is. I guess I'm more out of touch than I thought...

[–] redbr64@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

I'm nearing 40 and I think maybe I know what it is, but too embarrassed to try guessing since you say that

[–] Mr_Dr_Oink@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

30+ here. For anyone wondering, it's Rocky Montagè and he is a folk singer.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 6 points 7 months ago

Something that is not nearly as good as a rocky horror picture show montage.

[–] AnalogyAddict@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Person over 30: no.

[–] Karcinogen@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Is that the moose and his flying squirrel friend?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Rocky was the flying squirrel. Boris was the moose. And then there were two Russian spies, Netanyahu and Bullhorn.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

[–] TooLazyDidntName@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I'm 28 too, can confirm

a training montage?

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Fuck I was about to answer, just realised I am not under 30

[–] Boozilla@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

I hear trumpets.

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

No, I do not.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

It's when you drop the camera while it's still filming.

[–] jagungal@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

21, nope. I've heard of a rocky training montage, but would have no idea what you meant by a rocky montage with no other context.
