At some point RB is going to have to answer the basics question. Is it Max or Horner winning the races...

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago (2 children)

But Max will also have to answer the question: Will he seriously leave for a team with a worse car?

[–] wes@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago (3 children)

It seems to be going 2 possible ways in my opinion:

1: Verstappen goes to Merc with Marko & Newey.

2: Verstappen quits and goes on with sim racing.

[–] blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk 3 points 8 months ago

Marko is not going to Merc, they really don't need him. Newey has it so cushy at Red Bull he's not going anywhere. Max would only leave at the moment if something terribly bad happend he didn't want to be associated with, and so far this isn't it.

with Marko & Newey

Why would a 80 years old and a 65 years man look for a new job?

[–] krimson@feddit.nl 5 points 8 months ago

Maybe because they like what they do and want to continue doing so for as long as possible.

[–] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Oh I see him flowing Newey in a heartbeat. Let's face the RB car is Newey

Let's face the RB car is Newey

That seems incredibly insulting to the other supremely talented engineers at red bull. One man alone cant develop a car. What he can is guide a team if talented designers. See how merc are still pretty much where they were last year in competitiveness even though James Allison was added back to the technical department.

Adrian newey is the difference maker, not the sole reason for success.

[–] Ross_audio@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Your last sentence is essentially no different to OP.

The Red Bull car is Newey because he makes the difference.

It's a team sport but there's no need to preface every statement with the credits at the end of the movie.

We know it's the director's film.

We know it's Newey's car.

We can say either of those statements without diminishing the work of others.

Unless you want to tell me I need to know the names of the 3rd AD and 2nd Dolly grip for each film in the best directors category, you shouldn't be trying to manufacture offence when someone says the "Global Chief Technical Officer" is responsible for the car.

Honestly it is a valid question. With his time splits it seems likely he could win with Mercedes or Ferrari, but that is just a guess.

I bet though if it truly gets down to a choice between the two, the powers that be will Choose Max.

Yep, Max is fast enough to be a championship contender in either of the Top 4 teams right now, maybe top 5 considering what Alonso is doing in that Aston.

I also agree that RedBull would be stupid to not choose him over Horner. He absolutely destroyed 4 teammates with this team so far. You know, people that drive the same car, in the same team headed by the same people. The car sure is fast but this combination is all conquering and whatever you say Horner's maybe the fourth person responsible for that right now, and that's conservative.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Question is: where do neweys loyalties lie?

[–] blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk 1 points 8 months ago

The answer is it's Horner. He's the man at the top enabling the entire organization build that rocket ship race car. There's half a dozen other drivers, at least, out there who could beat Perez and bring the championships home with that car.

[–] Jozav@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Yes, that is the question for RB Racing. The basic question for RedBull is: do they want their brand linked to this racing team, or these team members?

[–] t0fr@lemmy.ca 12 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Will this be the silliest of seasons?

[–] utubas@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago

And so unnecessary above all, at least to me... So much filler content

[–] fidodo@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Lewis was confirmed to go to Ferrari before the season even began, so I would say it already is.

[–] Pringles@lemm.ee 7 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I haven't seen this much drama since I watched a season of the Bold and the Beautiful when I was 8, many years ago.

[–] andrew@lemmy.stuart.fun 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Netflix just died of dehydration due to excessive salivation.

[–] RagingToad@feddit.nl 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Nah, Netflix prefers to create their own stories over displaying the actual stories.

[–] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

""steal their own stories"

FTFY

[–] Swarfega@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

It's a shame the real excitement in F1 these days happens off the track.

[–] Psiczar@aussie.zone 6 points 8 months ago

I may be wrong but I’m getting Emperor, Anakin Skywalker vibes.

Helmut will get Max to kill the young Red Bull academy drivers next.

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

At least there's some drama this season since the championship already seems like a foregone conclusion

Is that an indication that yes he leaked it, but there is no one senior enough to actually suspend him unless the Thais do?

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

there is no one senior enough to actually suspend him unless the Thais do?

He's just an employee of Red Bull GmbH. He can be fired like any other employee and if he's causing harm to the image of the Red Bull brand (racist comments apparently weren't enough), I don't think even the Austrians would want to support him.

[–] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Meh, money rules all. If he can make someone money he'll get supported.

Look at that shitbox from the top gear TV series. He beat up his producer. Got fired and within a year was doing better than ever.
