He's good. Let's hope next year's car is also good

This could be promising depending on how well they implement quality control. Currently, this is where Indian manufacturers struggle

That goal difference gap is stunning

It's a sync problem ~~I guess~~ because lemmy-ui (the default UI developed by the Lemmy devs) and Photon (Lemmy client website) and Voyager (Lemmy client app) all show the bullet points properly

There are several reasons

  • The car got lighter as the fuel was consumed throughout the race
  • It was raining earlier which made the track wet and led to lower grip. Near the end of the race, the track was dryer (still wet but not nearly as wet as earlier in the race) which meant the drivers had more grip.
  • The tyres didnt wear much because the rain dropped the track temperature. This meant that the grip increase from the track getting drier was more than the grip lost due to tyre wear allowing the cars to go faster.

The VSC was luck. Pitting neither under the VSC nor under the safety car was a strategic call. Red bull and Alpine both made an educated guess based on the amount rain that there is a high possibility for a red flag. It was lucky but there was plenty of strategy involved. Also all three of them drove brilliantly to put themselves in a position to capitalise. Remember Colapinto binned it on fresh inters while max, ocon and gasly kept it on the track on ~~won't~~ worn inters. Saying it was 100% luck is doing a disservice to all 3 of them and their teams

The ultra 7 is actually a good all rounder. Decent performance (well balanced between gaming and production workloads), good efficiency and good pricing with respect to the AMD options. AMD is of course better for pure productivity (9950x), pure gaming (7800x3d and the upcoming 9800x3d) and is better at the low end (7600, 7600x)

Why though??

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

The result wouldn't have changed much even with all the guilty parties rightfully recieving a 5 sec penalty. Russell would still be ~~3rd~~ 4th, Norris would still be 6th, Yuki would still be 7th, piastri would still be 8th and ollie would still be 12th. The only beneficiary would be perez who would move upto 9th after the penalties for lawson and lewis who would drop to 10th and 11th respectively.

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 days ago

Sporting advantage is not the only criteria involved when dishing out penalties as we saw with Bearman's penalty today. He was the one who spun because of the contact and yet he was the one who was punished because the contact was his fault

A complete joke that McLaren, Merc, VCARB and Haas get off almost scott free for breaking the rules. It makes no sense to me that Hamilton got two 5 second penalties in Sochi 2020 for doing a practice start from the wrong spot in the pitlane but shit like this goes unpunished. At least the top 3 should have gotten time penalties because they are the ones who instigated it.

No. McLaren never told Norris to stay. It seemed like he went as soon as he heard and saw aborted start and the next thing Will tells him is recharge on. The teams who got it right specifically told their drivers to stay put and switch off the car.

So I have been listening to the radio surrounding the aborted start. McLaren fucked up with both cars and asked them to pull away. Same with Mercedes, VCARB and Haas. Alpine gave the correct instructions to wait and switch off and followed the rules to the T but then were forced to go because the others in front went. Same as Alpine for all the remaining teams (Red Bull, Ferrari, Aston, Williams and Sauber).

Frankly the McLarens, Mercs, VCARBs and Haases should be penalized.

So I saw that the rpm-ostreed-automatic.service was failing so I manually tried to upgrade but when i run rpm-ostree upgrade, I am getting an error Creating importer: Failed to invoke skopeo proxy method OpenImage: remote error: A signature was required, but no signature exists. Is this some error at my side or is this some key related issue at uBlue's side?

I recently made a post about my FreeSync certified monitor not supporting VRR over HDMI. I thought that there was VRR support over HDMI even for versions below 2.1 spec. Am I mistaken in my assumption¿? Has the HDMI forum prevented the implementation of FreeSync in the open source drivers¿?

Obligatory fuck the HDMI forum and the HDMI spec.

I have a AMD CPU + AMD dGPU laptop and recently bought a LG FreeSync monitor. I hooked up the monitor to my laptop and got it working mostly fine but I dont get any option to set VRR on my LG monitor.

I am on Gnome and have enabled VRR through gsettings. My laptop display shows the option to toggle VRR (and is currently being used with VRR on) but my LG display does not. The Archwiki says that the option to toggle VRR should show up on every supported display. I have verified from the user manual that FreeSync is supported over both HDMI and DP and from the monitors menu, I have verified that FreeSync is enabled. Is this a bug or I am missing something.

Hardware and Software

  • Ryzen 5 5600H with Vega integrated graphics
  • Radeon RX 5500M
  • Internal Display of 1080p, 144Hz (I have no idea which panel it is)
  • LG 24GS60F-B monitor connected over HDMI 2.0
  • uBlue main 40 (Fedora Silverblue 40)
  • GNOME 46.4
  • Kernel version 6.10.3
  • Mesa 24.1.5

Thanks in advance for the help.

So there are these two monitors - Samsung Odyssey G3 LS24AG32 and LS24AG30. Both of them are practically the same but the LS24AG32 is 165Hz and the LS24AG30 is 144Hz. Since they are both VA panels, I was worried about severe ghosting. All the reviews I find are for LS24AG30 which has what I find is an acceptable level of ghosting but I the only model available on my region is LS24AG32 so I am wondering if it uses the same panel which would mean a similar level of ghosting. The issue is that the old model of the Odyssey G3 had terrible ghosting so I am worried about the LS24AG32. The LS24AG32 model comes with a AU optronics M238HVN02.0 CELL but I couldn't find any information for the LS24AG30. Can somebody help me. Thanks in advance

Testing if VRR is active and working

I recently updated to fedora 40 and enabled the experimental setting to get VRR running. But I am an idiot who has been playing at frames rates between 30-60 on screens without VRR for almost all of my life so I can't even know if VRR is actually working or not. Is there some rest I can run to see if VRR is functional¿? If not, which parts of the game should I concentrate to see the difference between VRR and no VRR¿?

Edit : I am on a laptop with the integrated screen being the one being used. I am currently using ublue-main

So I have this external 2.5" drive salvaged from an old laptop of mine. I was trying to use it to backup/store data but the transfer to the drive fails repeatedly at the ~290GB mark leading me to believe that maybe there is a bad sector on the drive. I tried to inspect the drive using smartmontools and smartctl but since it is an external drive, i was not allowed to do so. Is there anyway for me to inspect and fix this drive? I am on fedora ublue-main. The HDD is a 1TB seagate drive.

Edit : I am a linux noob so some hand holding will be appreciated. Also i am looking to use this drive only for low priority media files which i dont mind losing so please help even though it is not the greatest idea to use a failing drive

Edit 2 : It seems my post is not clear of what i am doing. I dont want to recover data from the drive. I want to try to use more of the drive for storing data

Words cannot express just how much I love the new setting to quickly toggle between light and dark mode. I am very very grateful. Thank you @aeharding@lemmy.world, this is a wonderful app.

DRM error in F1TV (discuss.tchncs.de)

Since there is no F1TV community, I am posting here. I am trying to watch the pre season test on my phone running but am running into the error in the picture. My phone is running lineageOS 20. Is this a widevine certification issue¿? Is there anyway to resolve this¿?

Edit : Further phone details - Motorola G60. F1TV app used to work normally with the stock rom(at least it did last year)
