Op mentally crashes when he finds out they all have Celiac and can't eat them.

Shoutout to Safeway's store brand gluten-free pancake mix!

Have you ever had pancakes or waffles made with almond or coconut flour? Holy shit they are so good, that extra bit of flavor? Changes everything. They do tend to be a bit heavier, but I’d argue that’s great for something like pancakes.

For bonus points, use pandan extract for flavoring instead of vanilla. It’ll turn them green, and it’s delicious. Goes well with the non-wheat flours.

(I don’t have any reason to avoid wheat flour, but I do have access to inexpensive non-wheat flours so I like to play around)

No but I'm willing to try some hemp seed flour.

Heck yeah, that’s one I haven’t seen around here (which is sad because my area used to be big for hemp production!)

I hope it’s amazing!

Should be nutty and earthy.

Wheat free flour does exist with many alternatives.

[–] GilgameshCatBeard@lemmy.ca 33 points 8 months ago

That is adorable!!!!

I got to make pancakes with my daughter for the first time this year!

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

That's the best!

[–] Alkaseltzer028@lemm.ee 19 points 8 months ago

For me it was making bacon for a sleepover. While making it, I realized it was something I've always wanted to do.

I make pancakes for the kiddos almost every day. It is amazing. I also put a crap ton of chocolate chips in them.

My girlfriend and her daughter will be moving in with me soon. I am so stupidly excited to go to zoos and aquariums and museums and take them to all the fun kid stuff.

I want to do ALL the things with them.

Any toppers?

I always like stuff like strawberries or blueberries, as well as walnut or pecan pieces.

We can get into syrup alternatives too, if you want. Lol

[–] iheartneopets@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Sometimes I like slicing up apples or pears, drizzling them with maple syrup and cinnamon, and baking them until soft while I make the pancakes themselves :)

I also enjoy smearing the pancakes with butter and sprinkling them with sugar for something simpler. Sometimes syrup is just to much for me.

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 2 points 8 months ago

Holy shit, you made me really hungry right now. XD

I really need to try that out later. I need to get an oven first though...

Also, unrelated, but your username is straight up nostalgic! Must be from the 90's. Lol

Love the guys enthusiasm, but fuck pancakes. I eat about 3 bites n I'm over them. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

[–] ignoble_stigmas@sh.itjust.works 11 points 8 months ago

We expect a baby girl in May, can’t wait to make first pancakes for her

[–] MadBob@feddit.nl 5 points 8 months ago

Pancake Day was in fact Tuesday gone.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Man, I’m so jealous, we had to skip pancake day because my “little” one just got his wisdom teeth out (how is he already in high school?)

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I read this when it was first posted but after more than a day, I can’t stop thinking about waking them up in the middle of the night for pancakes. I may have missed my window of opportunity since my kids are older but I’m going to keep this prank in mind

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Is pancakes for breakfast a specific thing for sleepovers? Does it have to be pancakes or can it be any kind of dinner?

[–] phorq@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 months ago

French toast is an accepted substitute, but not cereal.

[–] tygerprints@kbin.social -1 points 8 months ago

MMMM the great thing about being grown up is, pancake day is any day I want. I SAY WHEN PANCAKE DAY IS!! And if I want them for dinner by GAWWDD I'm going to have them!
