This is one most of you have probably read or watched the YouTube video for. But if you haven't, please enjoy! The YouTube video is excellent but the story is great either way.

This is absolutely my favorite short story! It's such an interesting concept and delivered in a poignant way. The Kurzgesagt adaptation of it is very well done too.

Agreed. Andy weir is a treasure to me. I love almost everything he's ever written. I'm patiently waiting for the next book but whatever it is I'll be excited for it. Project hail Mary was one of my favorite books of all time. I've reread it over and over. It's just so much fun to read. I hope they don't fuck it up with the movie they're making on it but they probably will.

I haven't gotten around to reading Project Hail Mary just yet (I've been on a fantasy kick recently) but I got it when it first came out! I've heard nothing but incredible things about it and can't wait to give it a read. Fingers crossed they do it justice, movie adaptations always make me nervous.

Wow! I'm actually jealous of you. I wish I could go back and reread it for my first time. I've read that book probably five times and the audiobook is even better. Ray Porter is a genius with narrations.

If you can remember to do so. Come back and let me know what you think. It's such a good book.

Oh that's exciting! I'll definitely have to dive into it sooner rather than later! I also have the audiobook, do you recommend that for a first time foray into it?

[โ€“] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Oh definitely go for the audiobook the first time. That way the voice of Rocky will be in your head when you read it. Ray Porter does such an amazing job on this book. I can't not hear those voices in my head when I read it now. It's one of the few cases. I'll say the audiobook is better than reading the book. But I'm also a total fanboy for Ray Porter. He can literally make books. I care nothing about interesting lol.

Oh Kurzgesagt is why I discobered it and set me into being fascinated by conciousness for a year or two, the hours i've spent reading/ listening to susan blackmore and daniel dennet is embarassing honestly.

The story came back into my mind when talking to a friend recently. I sent it over to them. Glad we are all still sharing our story. ๐Ÿ˜„

That's because I(we) am a giant egomaniac sometimes ;)

Wow. That is a fantastic little story. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it.

The scenario is quite hypothetical but I kinda feel it true. I can imagine what something would be like clearly without actually experiencing it. It maybe because of what I have been experiencing as a different person before, maybe.

It's a neat idea for sure. I think the actual word for this... Ideology?..is solipsism. It's a pretty wild rabbit hole if you're bored and possibly stoned enough to dig around. Which is actually how I found this years ago.

Don't know why I never thought of Descartes before this in relation to that story. Lol, I guess you could say I saw what I wanted to...

[โ€“] Lacanoodle 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Also, the idea you were thinking of is pantheism not solipsism

[โ€“] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Right on, I knew that didn't sound right. Thank you!
