Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Oh, Thought Police? From the party of small government? Somebody call a paleontologist because this horse has been dead so long its a fucken fossil.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They want government to be so small it can be implanted in a uterus

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 7 points 10 months ago

As long as the government implantation acts like an IUD that might be a good thing.

[–] Wrench@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

They want small government in the same sense that small southern towns "self policed" and would lynch and run out "undesirables". You know, like local sherrifs that would also put on white hoods.

I bet the teacher has a good idea which nutbag parent called it in.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 44 points 10 months ago

So they are charging the person with making a false police report, right?

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 35 points 10 months ago

Nothing says Small Government like sending Police into a CHILD'S SCHOOL to search for a Book!

An ACLU attorney likened the search to being “the sort of thing you hear about in communist China and Russia.”

with all of the Mike Godwin in the news lately, this was a real missed opportunity for a Nazi Germany/Hitler comparison, especially since Godwin, himself, has recently given his approval of the comparisons.

Yeah, that is really disturbing. What was the cop going to do if he found it? Arrest the kid?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 24 points 10 months ago

Arrest the teacher probably.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 26 points 10 months ago

Just tell them the books are armed. They will never enter the school

[–] thesprongler@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

Literally Fahrenheit 451.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 13 points 10 months ago

Yeah, the right wing is shit. They have bad ideas on pretty much everything.

[–] Yuki@kutsuya.dev 2 points 10 months ago

Lol. America gotta America

[–] stinerman@midwest.social 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This is extremely not a thing that police should be dealing with. If someone really has "porn" at school it can be dealt with at school. Plus it's not illegal for minors to possess porn. There are so many things wrong with this.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Also, it isn't porn. It simply isn't. It has sexual situations, but so do lots of other books that aren't porn.

[–] stinerman@midwest.social 2 points 10 months ago

I didn't intend to imply that it was porn.

Republicans want the LGBTQ community back in the closet and for us all to shut up.

Hope everyone votes these Republicans out before they make America Great Again.

Which is funny because this has amplified the issue and now lots of us CisHets are using inclusive language in support of our nonCis-nonHet homies.
