New Communities
A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.
Rules
The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.
1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.
A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.
B. No illegal content.
C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.
D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.
E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.
2. Include a community title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.
3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.
Formatting
Please include this following format in your post:
[link text](/c/community@instance.com)
This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't
You should also include either:
or instance.com/c/community
FAQ:
Q: Why do I get a 404?
A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.
Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?
A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

Shrooms are becoming decriminalized and even legalized across the US now. It's a shame that the admins banned the community at all on lemmy.world. By their logic, they should also ban marijuana related communities. ItS sTiLl iLleGal!!!
Psilocybin is a very interesting and useful chemical and it is just stupid for it to be censored. What do those admins wish to accomplish? Shhhhhhh! Don't talk about something that may help with mental disorders or even PTSD. Mushroom bad!
Of all the good things that lemmy.world admins do, this is ranks as one of the dumbest and short sighted.
I will probably start COShroomGrowers. It's not illegal here and their argument becomes moot.
Huh ... funny.
Still, from lemmy.world's perspective, I can appreciate the logic. I think many were thinking that lemmy.world would be the "everything" instance. Instead, it's probably best thought of as the "vanilla" instance, which frankly makes sense. In a decentralised ecosystem, where moderation policies are allowed to be specific and don't need to bend over to try to be as expansive as possible, because any other alternative policy can be easily deployed on another instance, it makes perfect sense. It's just some were expecting something broader as a direct substitute for reddit without having to worry about the whole decentralisation thing.
Can we please avoid the eletism among cultivators in this community? For example, the uncle bens tek gets a lot of shit in the broader community even though it works well and has exposed tons of people to mycology. If it weren't for uncle bens, I wouldn't have gotten into this at all. Now I'm doing agar transfers, liquid cultures, testing different substrates and setting up to grow pans. And the beginning was frought with gatekeeping and shit talking until I found Uncle bens and /r/contamfam
We shall definitely try to avoid elitism. I personally started with uncle bens tek as well! Everyone and all their teks are welcome!
Do you know if it’s against the rules on that community to post psychedelic mushrooms? I’m a member but I didn’t want to break the rules by posting my Golden Teachers.
Good question, I have no idea to be honest
Thanks, just thought I’d ask!
Just try it 😜
Looks like that's for the non-magical kind.
All fungi are magical ;)
The mycology community is more general in scope. Psychedelic mushrooms are not excluded, but there can be so much specialized discussion in that sub-category that is worth it having a more specialized community.
There is also the first community !uncle_bens@lemmy.ml dedicated to growing, but it is not very active.
Is wild bird seed tech welcome? I miss r/mushroomgrowers, and I’m looking to join a like community. There was a r/unclebens too, but I never went there.
Bird seed tek is more than welcome at c/shrooms
Sure, what's wrong with bird seed tech?
Just checking since it’s an uncle Ben’s tech community.
Ah, actually, I responded thinking that you meant the /c/mycology community.
I'm not the creator/mod of the uncle_ben's community, and the sidebar says "A community for the uncle ben’s mushroom growing technique.", so I am actually not sure. I think it would be fine.... Sorry!
I guess they grow the same, but as always, good luck with this community!
