Finding out the Dilbert guy is insane really sucked.

[–] chaogomu@kbin.social 128 points 1 year ago (10 children)

There were hints from the beginning, especially if you read any of his books.

Then in 2008 he started blaming black people and diversity for all his problems, A major example is that he claimed that he wasn't promoted at the bank he worked at because "the board wanted to promote a black guy". The truth is he didn't get the promotion because the bank was on the verge of collapse, and actually did fail 6 months after he quit (for not being promoted).

He then blamed black people and diversity for the failure of his tv show. The truth there is that it got 2 seasons, which is a lot for an adult cartoon. It was also on UPN, which is why it finally failed. No one watched UPN. Which is still not bad for something that was a side project for him.

Speaking of his little cartoon, if you ever watched it, there were a lot of creepy incel adjacent moments. Shit that would raise red flags today.

AH, a fellow Robert Evans connoisseur?

[–] Lemmylefty@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

“But you know who WON’T blame black people for losing their jobs?” “…the…the produ-“ “That’s right, the products and services that support this podcast. I mean, they MIGHT, but hey, that’s capitalism for you!”

No, just a Raytheon enthusiast.

[–] solstice@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What were the early signs and red flags in the show? I was a fan of Dilbert for decades and never really noticed anything, and I was shocked a few years ago when it turned out this guy is so unhinged.

I recall something about his AOL chatroom names being racist as well.

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

There was this: https://twitter.com/davenewworld_2/status/1630311483727904776

Not sure how easy it was to register a screen name under someone else’s email back in the day, though.

[–] Sir_Osis_of_Liver@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago

I only knew of Dilbert from the comic in the papers but I bought the series on DVD from the bargain bin years ago. It was meh at best. Some concepts don't translate well to animation, and some of the messages were a bit off-putting .

[–] fidodo@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What the fuck was the rationale for black people causing a cartoon to fail?

[–] insomniac@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 year ago

His show was on UPN which had a lot of shows with black casts. When the show was canceled, he blamed the failure on the show leading in to Dilbert being the worst show ever made. Which is probably somewhat true. Shasta McNasty was one of the worst pieces of media in the history of media.

But then in 2020, when he went completely off the deep end, he said he was fired for being white and UPN decided to only cater to blank people.

To be fair the FBI hunted down and shot that one republican. Sure he implied he was going to assassinate the president, but I don't know how to finish that thought

Scott Adams is a human alien hybrid (according to Scott Adams)

FYI - This is the Dilbert guy.

NOT the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy guy. That's Douglas Adams.
Also, NOT the old school text adventure game guy. That's this Scott Adams.

[–] RobertOwnageJunior@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Great Podcast recommendation here! 'Behind the Bastards: How the Dilbert guy lost his mind.'
Also all their other stuff.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Weird how many of these crazy conservatives have literal brain damage, huh?

[–] Unaware7013@kbin.social 28 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Might not be that weird, I'd bet one leads to the other.

On a 100% anecdotal note, I had a liberal uncle that had a massive personality shift after a motorcycle accident, and became a massive piece of shit and trump supporter after his recovery. Would not surprise me to find that brain issues turn people into asshole conservatives.

Technically both Douglas Adams and Scott Adams were/are old school text adventure guys.

More broken Biden promises :<

[–] punkwalrus@lemmy.world 61 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's not that great. They are overpopulated and ruining the ecosystem, so we were paid to hunt them. But the meat is rancid, it's wrought with disease, and even the pelts are worthless: 50/50 poly/cotton isn't even suitable for rags or waterproof enough for tarps.

They have no natural predators either, and the are clogging the rural landscape. If we leave them to rot, they smell terrible and poison the soil and water table. In 2020-2022 we thought disease would wipe them out, but they banned birth control and are breeding faster than we can control.

There were programs to feed the homeless from various donations from hunters, but even the homeless reject them because they taste like cigarettes and stale Miller Lite. There's plans to use their bodies for construction filler, but the are oily and unstable. In bodies of water their fat floats them to the surface like fatburgs one finds clogging sewers.

The whole program is a disaster.

I knew about Scott Adam's, but recently I was catching up on the back archive for Sinfest. Around 2019 mark, I had to stop. How did someone whose comic got popular for praising Obama turn into a Qanon antivac comic?

[–] kittenspronkles@lemmy.ml 38 points 1 year ago (3 children)

There is a two part podcast about him on the "Behind the Bastards" that goes into some depth about what an idiot this guy is.

I know what you mean. Sinfest used to be a big favorite of mine. So disappointed to see what it became.

If we still had actual real investigative reporters in this country, they would pull up countless tweets and videos from some of these famous crackpots and go find them today and confront them. Call these asswipes out on their fear mongering posts about the COVID vaccine and Biden and a host of other things that were "definitely" bringing about the end of the world.

The biggest irony is that of all the things that WILL actually kill us and bring an end to how we live - stuff like guns and climate change - most of these idiots are totally quiet. Those are REAL issues we should be worried about, not how gay marriage will bring about the apocalypse or how Biden will send out death squads.

[–] solstice@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's hard to think of one thing that gets me the worst from so many options, but that is up there. We have so many major issues in this country and as a species, and yet these lunatics are obsessed with what people do with their genitals instead. And now they're about to vote again for the guy who attempted a violent coup. It's just beyond insane.

Here in South Africa they’ve been saying that white people would be slaughtered in the streets since Mandela was released.

Same shit, different lunatics.

This is projection because they have put targets on their opponents backs since America had the nerve to elect a president who is only half white.

If trumps re-elected this will ba a self fulfilling prophecy for republicans

How can we go around killing Republicans when we'll all be long dead from the vaccine???

Another example of an effect associated with fascism that I like to refer to as "weakling soyboy supersoldiers:" the "enemy" must be simultaneously impotent and terrifying. We're verrry scaarryyy, totally gonna be hunting them down for some reason! But also we'll be dead from our own stupidity because we all took the COVID-19 vaccines. I guess we're gonna be literal zombies? They've been looking for excuses to "hunt" "zombies" for ages now.

Imagine being this crazy

[–] EtherealMoon@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Republicans should consider themselves lucky. At least they can predict insane things that will never happen. We could predict they'll try to do something batshit bonkers and instead it'll actually happen.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I used chaos magic on COVID to have it target anti-vaccine people specifically, which for whatever reason tended to be a few more Republicans. I learned my technique at the academy of Herman arCain.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago
