What are people excited about for with the steam sale? Any hidden gems you'd like to share with the class?

We all have hundreds of games that are $0, it's called "all the games in your steam account you already own that you haven't played yet".

[–] Vodulas@beehaw.org 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Am I weird for not having a backlog? I have games I haven't played much of, usually because it didn't click with me, but can't thing any that I have never played.

[–] MJBrune@beehaw.org 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I have almost 1000 games. There are certainly genres I own but don't want to even install. The games that I haven't played are those I don't want to play but somehow ended up owning. Probably through bundle deals.

[–] Vodulas@beehaw.org 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The bundles might be the thing. I rarely buy them, so don't end up with games I know I won't like. No shame, btw, I was just curious.

[–] MJBrune@beehaw.org 1 points 9 months ago

Yeah I stopped buying bundles. They aren't as good anymore. Humble bundle used to be far better.

Might finally pick up Risk of Rain 2...

[–] Malice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Recommend you do, it's a pretty great game. And if mods are your jam, there's a ton of them that add a lot of content to the game.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

DLC is also 100% worth it. Adds lots of depth, extra items, charectors and levels, and in level item "mutators" that completely change how important items work if you want.

Super good. Makes a fun and deep game more fun and deeper.

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 14 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Meh. I'm seeing a lot of prices that aren't even that close to historical lows. e.g. Mass Effect Legendary was $10 somewhere recently but now it's $12 on Steam (though I'm not giving EA any money for it until they fix the stupid launcher for good on Steam Deck).

Prototype is like $4 though, might snag that if I don't already own a copy elsewhere.

[–] BmeBenji@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago

palpatine voice do it.

Prototype is among the most fun open world games to just screw around in. Right up there with Marvel’s Spider-man and Just Cause 3

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Some others:

  • Cloudbuilt, currently $6.99, lowest $2.99
  • Dead Cells, currently $ 14.99, lowest $11.99
  • Tropico 5 Complete, currently $23.81, lowest $9.99
  • XCOM 2 Collection, currently $11.88, lowest $6.99
[–] Lojcs@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Steam reviews for prototype aren't very positive

[–] Romanmir@lemmy.today 11 points 10 months ago

Just picked up Kenshi.. becasue I'm a masochist.

[–] Powderhorn@beehaw.org 11 points 10 months ago

Chants of Sennaar is on sale. Found out about it here.

I suspect there's a limited target demographic, but I was a linguistics major for a time.

[–] MrGerrit@feddit.nl 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Got:

Halo: master collection for €10 Broforce €3 Prey €3

Not a hidden gem but whenever it's on sale I personally recommend: Enter the Gungeon!

A rogue-lite/like? Game that has puns for everything gun and bullet related.

See if you can survive the Gungeon and kill your past!

"Kill your past, you already damned your future!"

[–] fleet@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 months ago

Enter the Gungeon is amazing. I just played through Hades, and while it's a great game, Enter the Gungeon is still my favorite roguelite.

[–] stargazingpenguin@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago

Not exactly hidden gems, but I finally bought Stray. Also decided to pick up Xenonauts. I can't decide whether I should grab Phoenix Point though. I keep eyeing up Terra Invicta too, but I'm almost positive it's going to be a bit too much micromanagement for me to enjoy it.

[–] six_arm_spider_man@reddthat.com 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I snagged a bunch of Williams pinball tables already. Very excited to be able to play No Good Gophers in the comfort of my own home.

May also finally pull the trigger on Cyberpunk now.

[–] MrGerrit@feddit.nl 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

I was tempted to buy some tables for pinball FX but I already have all available tables for fx3 and it feels like I'm keep buying them and they release a new version of the game/engine so I have to rebuy them again for the better experience...

[–] six_arm_spider_man@reddthat.com 2 points 10 months ago

I get that. I didn't rebuy anything I already have. I have tables scattered across all 3 versions of PinballFx out there and it's super irritating.

[–] turing_spider574@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

I got besiege for 5$CAD, had been waiting for a sale to finally buy it

[–] toastus@feddit.de 6 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Disco Elysium is a good one but I know I don't have the time right now.

Maybe I get me another Metroidvania.
I have Blasphemous (which I think was already on sale), Bloodstained RotN or Sundered EE on my wishlist, but again I would probably just make the pile of shame grow.

[–] EsteeBestee@beehaw.org 5 points 10 months ago

Haiku, the Robot is a very fun metroidvania that you can blast through in under 10 hours if you want something in that genre, but also something short and sweet that wont consume two weeks of your life.

[–] elauso@feddit.de 3 points 10 months ago

I envy you for not having played Disco Elysium yet. Hope you find the time soon :)

[–] flamingarms@feddit.uk 2 points 10 months ago

I've played a few hours of Ender Lilies. It's a metroidvania where you play a young priestess who is protected by spirits that you equip to attack for you. It's pretty, has solid music, and the combat so far has been pretty fun and well-balanced for me. Grow the shame pile...

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Unfortunately not at all. I was excited for Persona 5 Royal and was prepared to purchase it again (got it on PS5). Wanted to play it with a Trainer for fun.

However the discount is meh for an rebuy, it’s like €35(?). Was more hoping for €15-20.

[–] DoctorButts@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

P5R is mildly tempting even though I also own it for PS4. I think I will pass on it until it goes under $20. I also want to hang onto my gaming cash in case Persona 3 Reloaded ends up being legitimately good.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago

I’m very curious as well about Persona 3 Reload! I’ll wait a few months after it is out to see the reviews and overall game.

[–] saigot@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I see darkest dungeon 2 is on sale. I remember being excited to play it on release before seeing it was an exclusive, so I might pick it up on sale now.

[–] IGuessThisIsForNSFW@yiffit.net 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If you haven't already watched a ton of gameplay, be warned it is VERY different from DD1. Both good games, but I was going expecting a hamlet and that is not what they were going for in the sequel.

[–] saigot@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

So far I kinda like it. I got major decision paralysis late game in DD1 because I was afraid of screwing up my whole campaign whenever I took a break. I like that the consequences of failure seem more localized in DD2. I can see why that would annoy people who really like the original.

[–] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Just got 'Metal: Hellsinger' It's pretty fun take on the Doom-like Shooter genre.

Also got 'Dredge'. Very chill, while being a creepy lovecraftian fishing game.

Both games are really good, if a bit short. But for the discounted price, the length of them is just fine.

[–] averyminya@beehaw.org 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Thanks for reminding me of Hellsinger! I played the demo but forgot to wishlist it!

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 3 points 10 months ago

Project Highrise was like $3.60

[–] comicallycluttered@beehaw.org 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Huh, didn't even realize it had started.

Taking a look at my wishlist, and seems like I've got enough in my wallet to snag a couple of heavy sale games purely from all the cards I've sold on the marketplace.

May not get anything, though. Got tons of other shit to play and I'm not aching for anything in particular, although Charrua Soccer and Kopanito All-Star Soccer might be options because I want some good old fashioned arcade football and they seem fun enough.

Oh, and Shadow Gambit and Desperados 3, mainly because getting them now is one of the last opportunities to actually have the money go directly to Mimimi (the developers), who are shutting down end of year (which at least was their own choice and not because some publisher/holding company fired them).

Edit: Oh, I might get one of Frogware's Sherlock games. Don't know what the consensus is on the newer ones.

[–] toxicbubble420@beehaw.org 2 points 10 months ago

surprisingly switch has a better sale than steam for once (at least for my wishlists)

[–] Poopfeast420@feddit.de 2 points 10 months ago

I got one of those new Steam Deck OLEDs today and am thinking about getting some casual games for that (even though I got a ton of stuff in my backlog).

Dave the Diver is currently the forerunner, and maybe Mega Man Battle Network. I might just wait until the Steam Winter Sale though, since the prices won't be worse, and maybe even a tiny bit better.

[–] Lizzy_Wizzy@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Been grabbing any vr capable games I can. Squadrons was 2 bucks so it was hard to say no. Also grabbed both mirrors edges for 2 bucks each.
