I'm taking an important exam in a couple months, but I know that I don't perform well when there's a ticking clock. My heart rate goes through the roof and I can barely read properly lol - it's like I have no short term memory: I read a sentence and I have to reread it like 5 times just to comprehend it.
I've tried to simulate those nerves when I practice taking the exam, but it never even gets close to the extremes I experience on actual test day. I think subconsiously I know that it's a practice exam so I'm much lighter, but when it's the actual test day, I get so overwhelmed.
I've tried all sorts of breathing exercises, but they never seem to do much.
How can I get better at focusing under timed pressure? Are there any exercises I can practice?
