(Aside from Europe on nintendo)...

Only played the second one, loved it. Is this worth a shot or would it just feel like a stripped down version of 2?

The mechanics are similar but it's a very different game. I would say look up gameplay and decide for yourself if you'd enjoy a 2D version of Risk of Rain.

I recently got back into the 2nd one, and have been pleasantly surprised by how much is happening with them both. What with 2 getting some more DLC aswell. I don't know that I will double dip on remake for a while, and the gacha game is a miss for me.

I hope infusion still works how it does in the original, instead of how it works in ror2 though.

God ror1 infusion was so amazingly broken, I loved it. Definitely looking forward to slime trailing whole screens with acrid and having thousands of hit points again.

So… why did this need a remake, exactly? Thought we had the original and the sequel on modern systems.

Gearbox bought the franchise from its original devs about a year ago, and this is one of their attempts to capitalize on that purchase.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. Gearbox is developing a mobile game to take advantage of owning the property, along with whatever they plan to do with Risk of Rain 2 now. Returns is from the original studio and is more of a love letter / farewell to the franchise.
