Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Capitalists come from a culture that lies about everything.

If venture capitalists don’t like him, I do.

[–] TheCleric@lemmy.org 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Wait—I thought the VCs were actually saying that his comments were hateful…which they are.

I get your sentiment, and generally I agree, but in this case aren’t they right? This guy said something hateful and Islamosist (not a word but “Islamophobia” isn’t strong enough and actually, I think, proliferates hatred toward Islamic people) and the VCs actually came together to sign a letter saying it was wrong.

Am I misunderstanding this super weirdly formatted website?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 1 points 10 hours ago

No, you're right. But also,

Al-Falih [one of the VCs] said in an email that he does not endorse Mamdani but found Maguire’s comments over the holiday weekend “appalling.”

Nowhere in that article does it suggest that any of these VCs support Mamdani. They're only trying to distance themselves from someone who said the quiet part out loud.

This smells so much like class warfare like nothing else in recent memory

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 11 hours ago

I mean... I can think of a lot worse things in recent days

This one is just extra transparent, because they're panicking

[–] mriswith@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago

It's so weird listening to people like that.

They've spent so much time metaphorically jerking eachother off and gassing eachother up, that they don't realize their projection is VERY obvious.

For a minute I thought Sequoia act was some obscure act of government that the administration would use to 'nullify' Mamdani's win.

you are not alone

Actual article: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-07/sequoia-partner-maguire-s-posts-on-mamdani-spark-founder-petition

The Sequoia referenced here is Sequoia Capital Partners, the prominent venture capitalist firm.

“Maguire, an avid X poster best known for his investments in SpaceX and xAI,”

Tells me all I need to know about this dude.

[–] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

You mean the MAGA American culture? Yeah, Sequoia MAGA culture as hard as you can too while you’re at it.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 7 points 23 hours ago

What, America?

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

This guy just said, "Not all black people are [explitive] but some are" for Muslims in the replies, admitting "islamists" is equivalent to the n-word for him. Zionists are a literal plague on society.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Everybody right there is the problem.

[–] gidostro@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 day ago

I don’t think he’s religious lol
