Patient Gamers

A gaming community free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.

Edit: it looks like the banner is incorrect. On the front page of steam it’s the right dates and says summer, but when I click on it to see all the sales it says spring with the dates for the spring sale. It’ll probably get fixed soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy was surprisingly good. More so than the movies, the game gives all the characters their due time.

Just make sure to stop when people speak, otherwise you'll go past the invisible point that makes them stop and then you'll miss out on the dialogue.

Could have taken some notes from God of War there.

Yeah truly an excellent gaming experience

Can anyone recommend a game that can be played over zoom (preferably in a web browser) that isn’t:

  1. Jackbox
  2. What the Dub
  3. Rifftrax the Game
  4. Papa’s quiz
  5. Use Your Words

Tic Tac Together is team-based recursive tic-tac-toe. When both teams try to claim the same square at the same time, they have to fight for it by playing a subgame. Or a subsubgame. Et cetera. It's surprisingly strategic. How much board control should you give up to secure a contested square?

I've heard good things about Sunderfolk but haven't played it myself. It has hex-grid tactical combat with co-op done via smartphone, so only the buyer of the game needs to share their screen.

I’ll check those out and thanks!

+1 for tactical breach wizards. description is on point.

[–] silverchase@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

I will back up Cassette Beasts for having a strategically interesting turn-based combat system.

Titan Souls is a fantastic boss rush game where you die in one hit but the bosses only take a few hits as well. You only have one arrow to shoot and you need to go pick it up or stand still to recall it to yourself before firing again.

That’s a neat concept, and it’s got a cool art style. I’ll be checking this one out for sure.

Here are some "patient" games I've played that are on dollar-bin deals right now. Some are actually cheaper off-Steam, so in those cases, I link there instead.

  • Black Mesa — 90% off, tied all-time low
    • The fan-made remake of Half-Life
  • Crypt of the NecroDancer — 90% off, new all-time low
    • Rhythm roguelike
  • Downwell — 75% off (cheaper on GOG)
    • Shmup platformer about jumping deeper into a well
  • Gato Roboto — 85% off (cheaper on GOG)
    • Little metroidvania featuring a cat in a mech
  • Her Story — 90% off (cheaper on GOG)
    • Freeform detective game with FMVs
  • Bastion — 80% off (same price on GOG)
    • Action RPG with painted art, and Supergiant Games's debut title
  • Psychonauts — 80% off (same price on Itch)
    • 3D platformer where the levels are in the minds of interesting characters
    • Note: It's an old game that works a bit weird on modern hardware, so check PCGamingWiki for tweaks
  • Grapple Dog — 75% off, tied all-time low
    • Grappling hook platformer with Nitrome-style pixel art

Site is unreachable to me now.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

That's pretty much the norm on the first day.

I'll start looking tomorrow and compare all the offers.

Cyberpunk is on sale for 65% off so I finally picked it up (and its DLC). Currently downloading, I’m looking forward to checking it out. I tried it out shortly after launch, I think a demo or a friend’s house, but it never clicked for me so I didn’t get it. It was also incredibly buggy. I heard it’s far better now though, especially with the DLC, so I’ll give it a real shot.

Don't expect RDR2-but-cyberpunk (in terms of the open world) and don't expect a blank slate character RPG: you have some choices for characterization but V will always be V.

If you can get on board with that it's a great, immersive action game with a good story and some well written characters.

R2D2 but cyberpunk sounds cool as heckin' hell. C3PO too

And once again, Steam runs into various errors for me because of the high number of people getting in on the sale.

A beautiful reason to be inconvenienced. Enjoy gaming harmony my friends.

Bloons TD 6 is $1.39 so I bought a copy for my wife so we can play together.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago

That's a steal. It's a great game

[–] Bravo@eviltoast.org 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Note: GOG is also having a sale

Anything of note? I am considering A Plague Tale Collection at 65% off. Dishonored: Complete Collection is also 80% off. I'm considering buying it to replay on PC, I only have it on PS4 and the performance wasn't great.

[–] Bravo@eviltoast.org 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Europa Universalis IV 90% off. Alan Wake 90% off. Prince of Persia series 80% off. Devil May Cry 1-4 67% off. Various Hitman games 90% off - the original is going for 79 cents. I could go on but I dunno what you'd be into. They have more recent games too, like Baldur's Gate 3 20% off.

Anyway, mostly they're the same discounts as on Steam at the moment so I dunno if it counts as "of note". I just mention it because if you buy with GOG you get the game DRM-free, plus some people prefer to spend their money with the EU (as opposed to the USA) these days for obvious reasons.
