As Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) launches his rebellion against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), multiple reports indicate that House Republicans are looking to get rid of the Florida congressman altogether.

According to a report from CNN, an unnamed House Republican said that the caucus wants Gaetz gone — and that they may use the findings from the ongoing Ethics Committee investigation into the Florida congressman to oust him.

It's not that he diddles kids, or drives drunk that that don't like. Those they are fine with. It's that he dared to question their authority where they draw the line.

I’ll believe that when I see it. The GOP never hold their own accountable, no matter how awful or obvious the crime.

The absolute furthest they will go, and only when given no other choice, is “we investigated ourselves and decided there was no wrongdoing.”

This isn't about accountability though, it's about punishing one of their own who stepped out of line

[–] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They do, but only when their own start to make trouble for the party elites. Like Madison Cawthorn and his accusations of Washington orgies and cocaine use. He wasn't held accountable for anything when he was their agent of chaos, but once the chaos started hurting them, they were all in on holding him accountable.

I wonder if this is the actual top reason they like so many criminals and deviants - so they have dirt on people who don’t fall in line.

You can’t (reliably) oust a politician who turns on you if you don’t have any dirt on them…

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 15 points 1 year ago

Eh, if they really want to they can. See Madison Cawthorne. I'm sure there's some dirt about Gaetz floating around beyond the human trafficking and gay sex asphyxiation stuff.

[–] torknorggren@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Dude above you pointed out Madison Cawthorne--they hold their own accountable iff they feel their power is threatened.

[–] klemptor@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Susan Collins will be "very concerned" but will eventually agree on no wrongdoing. 🙄

[–] c0c0c0@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

They might if it's not really about the crime. They may turn on him simply because they think he's becoming a liability.

I know this is probably BS, but part of me really hopes this is the opening salvo in a Republican civil war that shreds their party to pieces.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago

I would settle for "pares away the far-right extremists and starts trying to achieve bipartisan goals" at this point. Only if the Progressive Dems can hold and drag the "center" leftwards to the actual center again.

A kiss...changed my life around,
A kiss like yours, no where can be found
Gee gee how blest I am,
to have a kiss from your lips, A kiss from your lips

Unfortunately not a civil war but rather yet another move to eradicate anyone not extreme enough for them.

[–] Spacebar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How is Gaetz not extreme enough? Do you honestly think he's anything but on the far right?

[–] greenskye@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

McCarthy wasn't extreme enough was what I meant

When Matt Gaetz was fucking kids, they cheered, but when he tried to fuck an old man, that’s taking it too far!

[–] ArugulaZ@kbin.social 58 points 1 year ago

You could just send the guy to prison over his human trafficking offense, instead of turning a blind eye to it.

Florida Beavis is about to get kicked off spray tan island. Would absolutely love to see him backstab all his "friends" in his exit video from the banana boat. You can do it Matt!

[–] Misanthrope@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You might have it backwards.

[–] TinyPizza@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

100%. It's clunkier to call him Florida Butt Head though, cause some might assume I'm just some boomer slingin my top tier insults. This pictures so unsettling but it really is worth 1000 words. Thank you for the correction!

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Hey now, let’s not have that kind of rhetoric around here.

Beavis is way more likeable.

Isn't this the venmoing teenagers for sex guy? Pretty sure this is the venmoing teenagers for sex guy. Shouldn't be hard to bury him at all if they got their thunbs out of their butts.

[–] MentallyExhausted@reddthat.com 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s the venmoing teenagers for sex guy.

[–] Nusm@artemis.camp 6 points 1 year ago

Hey, are you guys talking about the venmoing teenagers for sex guy? Cause I thought that you were talking about the guy who was venmoing teenagers for sex.

[–] SatanicNotMessianic@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Someone’s going to leak a video of Gaetz that they’ve been holding back.

I think the Bobo handjob video was organic, but I’m sure they have material on her as well.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern 2 points 1 year ago

Imagine what they've got in the actual blackmail files on Boebert if she's just publicly jacking off gay nightclub owners for fun.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

A house divided will fall. Might as well get it started with this greasy turd.

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I ain’t buying that shit

"So stop molesting the interns, Matt! They're, like, your nieces or something."

Paul Rand or Ryan Paul said it as part of the Republican party oath.

I always mix those two assholes up.

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

No no. It's Olive Garden just checking in.

[–] NYPariah@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago

Right? Believe it when I see it. Fingers crossed though.

Watching them try and use an Ethics Report is gonna be fucking funny.
