All the more reason to boycott everything even remotely connected to the NFL.

[–] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 7 points 13 hours ago

Nice. Will they put Brawndo ads on the Washington Monument?

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I haven’t been very excited about the NFL in years and now I’m really not excited about it all.

[–] Binky@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Just add the NFL to the long line of orange cocksuckers trying to get on the good side of a dictator.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 3 points 13 hours ago

Yep definitely.

[–] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And we made Carter sell his peanut farm in case it was a conflict of interest. I wish a thousand years of darkness and obscurity on the Republican party, the fools.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure Carter did that on his own volition; nobody made him do it.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

Sigh. He was too good for us.

Particularly the NFL, which operates as a cartel with monopoly on what is effectively a blood sport.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I used to enjoy it, but as they kept injecting more and more ads, in addition to their horrific response to the concussion stuff, it's become unwatchable to me.

However, that being said, I think the sport itself is pretty good. Think of it as being "turn-based" rather than the "realtime" of soccer. There is an extreme amount of strategy involved, in addition to the necessary physical abilities. Also, weirdly, math sometimes lol

But yeah, not good enough for me to ignore the insane and dangerous culture of giving your child dozens of concussions before their brain is fully developed...

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

If I want an object lesson in F=ma I'll get a Newton's cradle. Less boring, and it doesn't destroy people's lives and health.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Yeah we get it you don't like "sportsball" and that makes you unique. What a ridiculous comment lol

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

If it wasn't before, it certainly is now.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

there's like 11 minutes of actual play in a 3 hour game. Not even exaggerating. The rest is ads, replays and watching people stand around twiddling their thumbs.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

Don't forget all of the less than subtle gambling references.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thats so fucken inane, can't we just bring back gladiatorial games? Mock naval battles, to first blood fights, and having Christians mauled by lions sounds a lot more fun with less brain damage.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Roman boxing would be amusing to revive.

But yeah, we have a surplus of Christians and a declining lion population, so that might restore balance.

Perhaps we can use it as a breeding incentive for increasing the Asiatic lion population, we be close to historically accurate since the Romans almost exclusively used the Barbary lion which was a sub population of Asiatic lions.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Only if you don't count the time at the line of scrimmage, while the clock runs, as "play time." Which, imo, would be pretty ignorant of the sport.

It's four, 15-minute quarters of game time. And yes, several hours of ads, which is the main reason I stopped watching.

[–] BigxRedxHusker@midwest.social -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

60 minutes play time NFL and college. Don't care I love college football even though my team has been hot ass the last 20 years and NIL, transfer portal, and conference expansion is making it worse.

[–] lemmie689@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 1 day ago

The vulgar masses revel in banality.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The problem with all of these boycott calls is I've already been doing it for years

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I mean, if you really want to boycott, pick the company with the most super bowl commercials. We probably can't boycott them all at once, but we can boycott them one at a time.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 66 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Still, the NFL has learned the art of the deal, when it comes to dealing with the 47th president. Gratitude, flattery, and praise are the key ingredients to the not-so-secret sauce.

It also wouldn’t hurt to name the new stadium after him.

Eww.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago

If they name a stadium after him, they will need extra security because people will fuck it up.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It also wouldn’t hurt to name the new stadium after him.

Orange Turd arena?

[–] errer@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dumbass Dome

Has the added benefit of also being named after the people still taking out a second mortgage to be able to attend games.

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 42 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Lowest ratings incoming…

[–] iheartneopets@lemm.ee 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unfortunately not. Their fans love this shit, seriously. Remember they're the same fans who went feral during the kneeling demonstrations.

[–] Charapaso@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That was the NFL being political though, this is them being patriotic...is what my troglodyte relatives will say.

[–] iheartneopets@lemm.ee 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Again, the target audience loves that shit. I don't know if you've watched a game lately, but most of the advertisements now are split pretty evenly between:

  1. Jesus gets us ads
  2. Military propaganda ads
  3. Big truck ads
  4. Fast food ads

The NFL is a money-making machine, and it knows its audience. If they're doing this, they know their base will eat it up, and I 100% agree. Many people who haven't tuned in to a game in years will tune in to watch just to show support.

Truly, this is how fucked we are.

[–] Charapaso@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Oh I'm totally agreed! It's all capitalist, jingoist garbage, same as it ever was.

Because this is something important a president should be worrying about...

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

He's conquered the egg crisis, onto other issues!

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 23 points 1 day ago

Joke's on them, I've been boycotting the NFL for 46 years.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Dammit. I can’t boycot the NFL since, like, I don’t watch football….

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago
[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I stepped away from my team a couple years ago, because I get to emotionally attached plus I started to dislike the product that is the NFL more and more. Had I not already stepped aside, I'd have dropped cold turkey right now.

Fuck the NFL, it's not only dead to me, but I will actively avoid the product going forward.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Damn, did you used to be a Ravens fan as well? You sound like me. I came to the conclusion that the Lamar re-signing drama wasn’t fun, and I was no longer enjoying being a fan. Didn’t really get back into it after that.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

The same place where he was too much of a pussy to be inaugurated at?

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago
[–] CobraChicken3000@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn't there like a war breaking out right now that you should be worrying about? I believe one of the sides has nuclear weapons.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Both have nuclear weapons.

I wonder if they’re all going to take a knee during the anthem.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Way ahead of you. No one in my family even pays attention to "sports ball" of any kind.
