If you're still going down there for lunch / shopping, even more reasons to stop.

Leslie is not being identified with her last name as she is concerned she could be flagged at the border next time.

NEXT TIME?! What a stupid fucking idiot. She saw that and still plans to go again?!

If she gets flagged by speaking out, it affects flying though the US or having to land for a mechanical issue.

One other thing to add to this - Leslie from the article is likely a Canadian citizen, but a permanent resident in the same situation has a a very good reason for wanting to be able to maintain their ability to fly into the US. In short it makes it easier to return to Canada if you lose your PR card while abroad anywhere else in the world. Any traveller still shocked at this point is just a “stupid traveller”.

She said she crossed the border into the U.S. on Friday morning with her husband to grab some lunch and groceries.

I can think of other more appropriate words to describe them than simply 'stupid traveller'.

Actually it used to be pretty common for those who live very close to the border to frequently cross both sides. Sometimes this even results in dual citizenship (if the closest hospital is on the other side of the border).

Alas, that's part of the old relationship, now dead and buried.

Are they the conservative voters or the non voters? Who’s to say?

Sometimes we just can't take a hint.

What exactly are they worried about letting come into Canada?

This feels very authoritarian, like hunrting randomly through trunks for people trying to escape...

Or there was a criminal afair they were trying to capture 🤷

It's almost as if we need to screen people returning from a country being run by a rapist.
