Alcatraz has been run as a national park for decades now.

Edit: Apparently at least one PBS station aired Escape From Alcatraz the night prior to this announcement

I can only imagine how long it would take to get it up to standards. Probably cost less to build a new prison.

What standards? Trump's standards would just be some steel plating, drafty steel bars and a shed or two.

Edit:

Perhaps he wants to raze the current buildings, and put a full on drafty camp on there.

No rehab needed. Just dump people there and patrol the bay with armed boats.

Oh you sweet summer child.

I'm not expecting anything like "up to standards"

Isn't that shit a fucking museum or something now? Like they do tours, for tourists, and shit?

Why can't republican voters see how dumb he is? Dumb loves company... is that the phrase?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 12 points 6 days ago

Yes, it's run by the national park service, and you can get a ferry ride to it and do a tour.

Based on one ex-acquaintance's views, they don't care if he's dumb. They don't even care if they have to "sacrifice" some of their own rights or conveniences...as long as a liberal suffers. As long as someone they disagree with is in pain, they'll go to sleep at night smiling and laughing.

I wish I was joking. They're fucking narcissists or sociopaths. Fuck them all.

Yes, and it's nowhere near fit for service as a prison or much else other than tours.

There's more bird shit than paint in most areas on the outside. It's probably a 2 year minimum refit (at ludicrous expense) to return to service.

But I guess if it was a great prison when america was great ... Then we have to reopen it?

He's like a little kid who made a wish to become emperor, and the world's most irresponsible genie granted it.

He’s a fucking idiot whose brain calcified in the 80s.

Soon to be followed by Shawshank and Oz.

What would a wizard need a prison for?

You fool! The prison is the best part of the tower!

Entertainment, or something kinky.

For traitors and insurgents like Trump and his cronies? Fine with it. Heck, keep the touristy thing alive so people can see how to properly treat traitors. Add an information center about the dangers of fascism.

Lmao what the fuck? It’s a goddamn tourist attraction now.

The Rock is due for a reboot. Good call.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 3 points 6 days ago

Can we make him the first inmate???

[–] cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 6 days ago

Since the tourists stopped coming this makes perfect sense.

Anyone else remember the breakout scene in Robinhood Men in Tights? Seems like someone thought movie art should become reality....
