Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1108 readers
149 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

That community has apparently had similar bans in the past, and neither the community nor the server mention their rules anywhere I can find. I also messaged the mod to ask for a link to the rules, their reply was "You need to complete your sentences otherwise you’re going to get a ban."

Not sure if the mod just didn't like the content of my comment and made up a nonpolitical reason, or if their modding is really that arbitrary.

I was* banned for commenting an incomplete sentence.

You're on thin ice, mister!

Yeah, nah. Your sentence is completely fine. When I read the title I was expecting you to have clipped it midway, without including the most crucial bit of info. (I know someone who does this. It drives everyone around her crazy, so I get why a mod would scold people for doing it.)

The mod is clearly a troll, and the modlog being full of similar occurrences reinforces it. PTB.

The mod of that community is a real asshole. Bans people for the littlest things including just things they don't like (they claim acronyms are against the rules there but have no rules listed).

You're better off posting in a real news community like !globalnews@lemmy.zip or !world@quokk.au

I strongly suspect the incomplete sentence wasn’t the issue.

That same user, I’m pretty sure, was the one posting “joking” absurdist comics about how Biden and Kamala Harris had gleefully caused the entire genocide single-handed and then running and hiding behind “I’m just saying ridiculous stuff, like Monty Python, oho” when the comments were alarmed and pushed back on it.

The “incomplete sentence” thing sounds a lot like more of the same absurdist cover to deflect from the fascism they are actually doing.

It’s happened to me before, too. As far as I’m concerned, that mod is a troll (“Thank you for creating content!”), so I don’t engage with their communities at all.

Is this the same crank getting mad at initialisms?

On SDF?

I'm reminded of whichever schmuck runs OpenUserJS, and seems to think sending a PM is the moment the recipient becomes aware of the PM. And that eight hours is a sensible timeline for demands like 'please clarify the license for this code or I'll ban the entire project forever.' Just a whole website owned by a broken stair.

There's currently only one mod on the news community, so it's probably the same!

How could this
