And they especially don't want end users to be informed about the game's life expectancy before they pay for it!

Hier in Norddeutschland sagt man einfach Bäder, das ist jetzt nicht wirklich länger als Badi. Badi ist aber definitiv niedlicher!

How exactly does supporting genocide get them elected? I don't get the impression that Labour voters want to see Palestinians murdered.

Does that mean the OOP really liked the dish?

People are starting to get weirdly mad about this so I will destroy the magic and just so that no, this post was not actually made in 1993, it comes from a forum where a big gimmick is that it is perpetually the September of 1993. The post is from like, 2012 or something.

Fucking what.

I'm mostly working off magazine articles, blog posts and books like David Wondrich's "Imbibe!". Most of the time, a simple web search with terms like "how to drink [beverage]" will yield results. e.g. for single malt whisky you can easily find articles and lengthy forum discussions over how much, if any, water to add, and plenty of articles write about what temperature to drink sake at and how to make hot sake. Though it's always possible that something is fairly common in Japan that western bloggers are not aware of.

Yeah, just a few ml to take the edge off - it's not even about the alcohol for me (I happily sip 63% ABV rum if it's the good stuff), but about the unusual sake-specific flavor. I could probably sip a milder sake as-is, but we don't exactly have a huge amount of choice where I live.

Kinda sounds like it's just something you do, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but you wrote that as if it's the standard way to do it.

Damn, dude. Turkey doesn't seem like a particularly nice place, either, but it's insane to move to the US right now. Good luck, I guess.

Sake is meant to be sipped diluted.

Can you elaborate on that? I've never seen anything about people adding water or other mixers into their sake (except the rare case of sake cocktails, which are definitely not the default way of drinking sake).

That said, I usually add water when I drink sake, but I do that because that's what I do with most of my alcoholic beverages; I never got the impression that this is the normal way of drinking it.

That's gotta be a different gene, bourbon and rye taste like bitter wood to me (because of tannins from the cask aging) instead of the boozy vanilla that many people claim it tastes like, yet (decent) vodka tastes completely neutral to me. But I do believe that some people perceive alcohol itself as bitter while others do not.

Do you dislike bitter flavors in general, like coffee, tea, or salad?

for when you want to hit on her, obviously!

The European Union’s landmark anti-deforestation law could fail to deliver on its environmental promises if enforcement authorities disproportionately focus on small importers while missing less obvious violations from major commodity firms, according to a new analysis by U.K.-based investigative nonprofit, Earthsight.

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which comes into force Dec. 30, 2025, aims to prevent new tropical deforestation from Europe’s supply chains for soy, beef, palm oil and other commodities. To do so, it will require geolocalized data from indirect and direct suppliers that prove their products didn’t contribute to deforestation since December 2020.

The largest importers “will submit due diligence statements accurately and on time. They will have due diligence systems in place. They will have correctly identified risks. They will have traceability systems of some kind in operation,” the report’s authors write.

“The problems with these importers will lie deeper. Their mitigation measures will be weak. Their traceability systems will have fundamental flaws, but these will be well hidden,” they added.

In February, Cargill, one of the largest exporters of soy from Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest and Cerrado savanna, took advantage of the EUDR to weaken already existing anti-deforestation agreements. The agribusiness pushed up its deforestation cutoff date from 2008, the year established by the soy moratorium, to 2020, the cutoff date set by the EUDR. That would allow the company 14 more years of deforestation without consequence.

“There is good reason to be mistrustful of such firms,” Earthsight’s analysis writes. “Unfortunately, there are reasons to fear they will nevertheless get an easy ride when EU Member States start enforcing the new law.”

In the Ivory Coast, Earthsight’s data show, the top 10 importers buy up 83% of the local cocoa. In Brazil, the largest 10 multinational import companies ship out 64% of the nation’s soy exports.

Small companies will have an additional six months to comply with the law after it comes into effect, but producing accurate paperwork may be more challenging. They often lack the financial and technical resources necessary to quickly set up comprehensive due diligence systems with all the data points required by the law, experts say.

According to a report by Profundo, the relative cost for EUDR compliance is three times higher for small and medium-sized importers than large importers.

Europe’s enforcers will need to focus more on the quality of the largest importers’ reports, Earthsight said, rather than simply check bureaucratic boxes. “Going after such small firms will be much easier … and [authorities] will be tempted to focus most of their energy on this,” the group writes. “For the law to achieve its aims, it is essential that [they] avoid falling into this trap.”

That community has apparently had similar bans in the past, and neither the community nor the server mention their rules anywhere I can find. I also messaged the mod to ask for a link to the rules, their reply was "You need to complete your sentences otherwise you’re going to get a ban."

Not sure if the mod just didn't like the content of my comment and made up a nonpolitical reason, or if their modding is really that arbitrary.

Ich finde, das kann man sich nochmal durchlesen. Lemmy verwendet übrigens auch die AGPL, wie anscheinend die meisten Fediverse-Proojekte.

Allgemein ein Thema, bei dem man schnell pessimistisch werden kann ...

Berlin’s immigration authorities are moving to deport four young foreign residents on allegations related to participation in protests against Israel’s war on Gaza, an unprecedented move that raises serious concerns over civil liberties in Germany.

The deportation orders, issued under German migration law, were made amid political pressure and over internal objections from the head of the state of Berlin’s immigration agency.

The internal strife arose because three of those targeted for deportation are citizens of European Union member states who normally enjoy freedom of movement between E.U. countries. None of the four has been convicted of any crimes.

Habe dazu leider keinen deutschsprachigen Artikel gefunden. @mods, sagt Bescheid wenn ihr das lieber in c/nahost haben wollt, aber das geht mMn weit über den Nahostkonflikt hinaus.

In light of recent Mozilla developments, I'm considering switching to a fork. But maintaining a browser fork is a pretty massive piece of work, so I'm wondering which ones are at least decent at that.

Tried it out yesterday, it's 'pay what you want' (+ a bit of data in that you have to give them an email address). Works pretty well, even if the interface is a little esoteric compared to some other plugins that allow you to set a specific bit depth.
